Okay, MP Shockwave is one of the best Transformers I own. 'Nuff said?
Oh, okay, here are some pics for you!
As I said, I don't own G1 Shocky. I have this grey one with the red translucent plastic, which I think is from Radio Shack as the Astro Magnum pics I see online all had clear plastic. So, here are a bunch of pics with "dead" G1 Shockwave.
I hope these pics show just how similar MP is to G1. The size is almost a spot on match! MP Shocky wouldn't stand by himself with the barrel angled up like G1 will with toes out in full. So a flight stand is assisting...
Seriously, they are almost identical!
If you look closely, you might see I am wearing my Spiderman Sweatshirt. But, yeah, same size!
Same height. Similar build. (Better legs on the MP.) And very similar transformation, just no parts forming, unless you count the toon accurate backpack.
Larger knee pads and bigger backpack on MP.
Little bit different detailing on the backpack.
Maximum knee bend on both figures. And, yes, MP Shocky is balancing on one foot. ("Dead" Shocky looks a bit like Bigfoot in this pose...)
And, finally, a close-up of the two heads. The original one was a little longer and flatter. MP is a bit taller and shorter from front to back, looking more like the animated model.
Pros: Good color purple, though I do like the deeper one from the G1 toy a bit more. Very nice articulation, with much shoulder and arm movement (ratcheted!) as well as a decent knee bend. (Shockwave doesn't bend his knee for any bot! Just don't tell Megatron!) Great waist covers around the upper thighs. Nice touch with the abdominal "6-pack" that pulls down to hide the "willy." And the best thing? MP Shocky has a "Slinky" like spring covering his entire hose! No rubber breaking down like my old grey bot!
Cons: The whole head piece doesn't appear to lock in when raised up for bot mode. I kept bumping Shocky's head to hide in the abdomen. The waist swivel is rather loose. That's about it!
So, thanks for reading! If you have this guy on the way, I think you will not be disappointed! Personally, I cannot wait to see Ryan give this guy the Seibertron photo shoot treatment. Do you have G1 Shocky, Ryan? I think there can be some great pics there.
One last post script. Shocky would be huge for a Classics collection, unless the most recent Leader Megs and Starscream are used. Then he should fit in nicely. I may take some pics with some Classics/Generations figures later this weekend. I remember Counterpunch mentioning using MP in that collection...
Have a great weekend, everyone!
