Call me crazy if you must. Lights and sound are what blew me away with Shockwave when i was a wee lad.

I wholeheartedly agree. Love this character and the toy. Even without this feature though and the lighter color scheme (which I know I'm in the minority here-I'm totally down with!)I look forward to displaying him with a certain 3rd party Megs.

Got my shipment notification this morning!

He shipped. HE SHIPPED!!!

I know he originally had sounds and lights, but I would honestly prefer a non gimmicky figure that looks perfect, doesn't have to sacrifice something for said gimmick and is a little cheaper. Heck I'd even prefer painted eyes over light piping on MPs so the back of the head doesn't have that transclearant window.

Strangely, reading through this thread is making me want to get the G1 figure again. Has to be cheaper than the MP.

Well now I know why I didn't get the email from BBTS. The Shockwave with coin has been pushed off until April. It's worth it.

Well, it is engineering from 3 or 4 years ago and was designed prior to the MP line going full on cartoon styled (removed of most panel detailing).

I'm not defending Quakewave, in fact I never got one because I dislike the run on unofficial MP stuff of late, but in all fairness there is some perspective necessary here.

Though there are some who would argue that MP Shockwave is way too short. And then there's people like me who acknowledge that the "scale" in the cartoon is completely f*cked and trying to base the size of the toys on their sizes in the cartoon is totally pointless.

To be honest though, whilst MP Shockwave is without a doubt the better LOOKING toy (colours aside) Quakewave is still an impressive piece. He has fully articulated fingers (I think...?), a light-up eye instead of light piping, and most importantly, legs that can actually bend 90 degrees, whilst MP Shockwave has a single knuckle joint, light piping for his eye, and his knees (from all the photos we've seen so far) seem to be limited to about 30 degrees. On a more subjective note, I do think that, whilst less accurate, the bulkier lower legs look much more impressive on Quakewave.

To add to this - I'm sure Takara themselves took a look at the figure and learnt from it. Or at the very least looked at it and said "lets do this better"

To each their own. I have Quakewave and can confirm he is a spectacular figure with amazing build quality. He fits in with my MP Decepticons perfectly.

As far as I'm concerned, I don't need or want MP Shockwave as I already have mine. If this allows someone else to get the figure they want by getting the MP, great. :CON:

Chosen Prime video.

Takara for me. But in this case the difference doesn't seem as dramatic as Magnus and Citizen Stack, or Bee and BII. I guess Shockwave is a easier character?

Shockwave has the advantage of not really looking like "anything" - save for a kinda gun-thing where 90% of what becomes the robot being visible. Plus his cartoon model looks a lot like his G1 toy and transforms in a similar way.

He's here! The purple in hand is wonderful. It's a teensy bit pastel, and I do like the dark purple of the G1 toy, but I think it is a great shade of purple. I don't have the G1 toy, but I do have the grey Radio Shack version (I believe) that I hope to snap some pics with. Initial impressions of gun mode is that G1 and MP are almost identical in size and shape. Nice work Takara. More to follow!

Okay, MP Shockwave is one of the best Transformers I own. 'Nuff said?

Oh, okay, here are some pics for you!

As I said, I don't own G1 Shocky. I have this grey one with the red translucent plastic, which I think is from Radio Shack as the Astro Magnum pics I see online all had clear plastic. So, here are a bunch of pics with "dead" G1 Shockwave. ;)

Image
I hope these pics show just how similar MP is to G1. The size is almost a spot on match! MP Shocky wouldn't stand by himself with the barrel angled up like G1 will with toes out in full. So a flight stand is assisting...

Image
Seriously, they are almost identical!

Image
If you look closely, you might see I am wearing my Spiderman Sweatshirt. But, yeah, same size!

Image
Same height. Similar build. (Better legs on the MP.) And very similar transformation, just no parts forming, unless you count the toon accurate backpack.

Image
Larger knee pads and bigger backpack on MP.

Image
Little bit different detailing on the backpack.

Image
Maximum knee bend on both figures. And, yes, MP Shocky is balancing on one foot. ("Dead" Shocky looks a bit like Bigfoot in this pose...)

Image
And, finally, a close-up of the two heads. The original one was a little longer and flatter. MP is a bit taller and shorter from front to back, looking more like the animated model.

Pros: Good color purple, though I do like the deeper one from the G1 toy a bit more. Very nice articulation, with much shoulder and arm movement (ratcheted!) as well as a decent knee bend. (Shockwave doesn't bend his knee for any bot! Just don't tell Megatron!) Great waist covers around the upper thighs. Nice touch with the abdominal "6-pack" that pulls down to hide the "willy." And the best thing? MP Shocky has a "Slinky" like spring covering his entire hose! No rubber breaking down like my old grey bot!

Cons: The whole head piece doesn't appear to lock in when raised up for bot mode. I kept bumping Shocky's head to hide in the abdomen. The waist swivel is rather loose. That's about it!

So, thanks for reading! If you have this guy on the way, I think you will not be disappointed! Personally, I cannot wait to see Ryan give this guy the Seibertron photo shoot treatment. Do you have G1 Shocky, Ryan? I think there can be some great pics there.

One last post script. Shocky would be huge for a Classics collection, unless the most recent Leader Megs and Starscream are used. Then he should fit in nicely. I may take some pics with some Classics/Generations figures later this weekend. I remember Counterpunch mentioning using MP in that collection...

Have a great weekend, everyone!
