The info I read was that the sixth member would be a Saber-Toothed Cat and would be optional. Talon's wings would attach to the back and Talon as the arm. Or, we could use the Saber-Toothed Cat as the arm and Talon would form a bulkier backpack, filling out the back.

I haven't read anything differently in this thread. Perhaps there's more info over at TFW or elsewhere.

That's still the case as far as we know. But what Mekatron said holds true. They have to make sure that Divebomb can connect smoothly to the back of Razorclaw, and if razorclaw's structure is still being finalized, they don't want to risk making more changes when one figure is out and another is not. (that is an interesting point I had not considered)

In other words, they're really still in the design phase. The real "teaser" was the pre-orders. I much prefer TFC style of marketing where a color picture means "in stores in about a month".

Yes, taking a closer look at the pic, that's Talon as the left arm. New or previous revision? I'm going to say new as it looks just a tiny bit different than the silhouette that had not-Arcee on the shoulder.

Regardless, it looks Awesome!!

P.S. The discussion on the different figures, including why Talon was re-designed can be found here.

Yeah, I think that's the redesigned Talon in the combined mode shot as the head looks a little bigger than previous images.

Rampage is looking awesome. Perfectly beastly. The proportions of MMC's beast modes are a little suspect (massively stocky, steroid infused torsos with tiny toothpick legs) but they're still so terrifying to look at it doesn't bother that much.

As for combined mode, that may well be the centrepiece of my Decepticon collection.

Anyway, I took a gander at the TFW thread they linked from the Facebook post. Apparently there's been some pricing issues, and they're going to be selling Headstrong at the same price as Tantrum even though he's ostensibly cheaper to produce. Looks like their initial prediction of Tantrum's price was too low due to being rushed out of the gate. Whatever, as long as the figures are good, I can't complain too much. It's nice that they've made the bodies of these two reversible, although I probably won't make use of that, since they look different by coloration anyway.

The below confirms that TFC is going to produce another PK version...

http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transform ... ost9408408

2. Real life example for factor no.2:
K, so assuming we kept within planned budget with all the cost saving measures we took and confident we'll do well because our figures are priced lower than what indirect competition would be selling if they're doing something similar (ie. our figures are larger, cheaper and arguably better than Hercules). So it was just another nice relaxing evening in the factory and everything seemed to be going fine and according to plan. Then news and pictures of a new winged deluxe hawk rpbot suddenly popped up all over the net and people were actually liking what they see. And if that's not bad enough, the following day came word from a trusted source telling of the existence of yet another robotic lion toy by yet another company and it's already in its final stage of development. And to make matters worse, the people making lionbot were trusted "friends" who just a year ago told my boss "Ah.. no problem buddy, you guys just go ahead! We're definitely not planning any beastiality cobiners!" So everything seemed rosy until life and reality decides to slap you on both cheeks and wake you up to the harsh reality of murphy's law. What would be the sensible thing to do in this situation? Should we raise the prices because now its a fact that the pie is definitely split into 3 so we should increase profit margins to make up for the lowered sales volume? Or should we price our product as low as we possibly can to get the biggest piece out of that pie? **** happened and now there are not one but TWO direct competitors. How would that affect pricing strategies? I guess we all know what happened next. Early bird specials and sudden price drops.
Tip no.2: If a price war happens you're more or less screwed. The only winner are the end consumers. Salvage whatever you can and cut your losses.

So those are my thoughts on how prices were set for the FeralCons. It has always been MMC tradition to price stuff lower than what existing indirect competition does. And given the situation of a 3-way direct competition battle(and bloodyhell its not the first time but thats another story for another time) I do believe that the profit margin should be even lower than usual.

Sorry for the long text plus the bonus rant but that's how I can explain what I understand pricing according to what I know.

Thanks for the other pic options, diamchoc, and That Bot is correct; I did not see any pic from the Photobucket site.

Also, while I really like Herc, this is a pretty slimy thing for TFC to do. I understand competition and how it can be good for the market, but to bald face lie? Wow.

It is a low blow, but TFC is most likely going to come last this time. Sounds like the majority of Predaking buyers are still behind MMC, so things should work out nicely and TFC just might loose money on this one ;)

Re: MMC's Ferocicons - Feral Rex (Predaking) is coming!

Postby craggy » Sun May 12, 2013 5:18 pm

on the initial face of things, I personally don't see where "the only people who win are consumers" is a bad thing...because I'm a consumer.

of course, I was already worried about UT because I don't think people will buy their version and whilst I am more inclined to get MMC's, I'd like to see UT do more products in the future, as their offerings look okay, and most 3rd parties only improve with each project.

TFC's products haven't really appealed to me yet, so I'll be surprised if their take on Predaking does, but they're probably more able to take the hit, but also less likely to. I'd expect there are folks still paying for Uranos, who bought Herc and have adopted TFC as their 3rd party combiner company of choice (we've seen it in the FP Menasor threads where people have said they'll pass, and wait for TFC's version, which isn't even announced) so there's probably still a market there for them.

I'm torn on the whole competition thing.
On one hand, competition can force everyone to work that much harder at producing better products. It can also lead to price drops. Sometimes those price drops can lead to drops in quality, as companies might rush things out to make a quick buck by being first.
These companies have always all been competing with each other, as well as Hasbro. But it's a lot easier to buy a £15 Deluxe and be disappointed with it, and give Hasbro another go than it is spending £100 on a 3rd party toy and finding it not to your liking.
I do like having options on what to spend my money on, because sometimes I might not agree with design choices, or scale, or pricing, or whatever. When e (or 3) companies make the same character, it gives us as consumers options on what to buy to fit in with our collections or our own interpretations of the characters.
But as stated above, it splits the pot a bit between the companies. I'd be surprised if we see another run of Warbot Defender, because of Hasbro's Springer. These combiners are another matter. I'm one of a few who've hoped for another run of Maketoys green Giant, because we passed for whatever reason when it first came out. FP's Bruticus add-ons just got their 3rd(?) release. Combiners could be big money for the 3rd parties. They could be reissued again and again, and there's always recolours to think about as well.
If everyone made different characters, it'd be up to the consumers to decide which characters they want more. I'm not sure that everyone doing their own versions of the same characters isn't more fair, but it does run the risk of all these companies putting each other out of business.

Maybe Hasbro saw this sort of thing coming and it explains their lack of action in regards 3rd parties? Why try to fight them when they'll take each other out before becoming a threat?

Re: MMC's Ferocicons - Feral Rex (Predaking) is coming!

Postby xyl360 » Mon May 13, 2013 3:58 pm

I'm still wondering where this confirmation that TFC is making a Predaking came from.

Also, while it may be bad form of TFC (or someone from TFC) to tell someone from MMC that they won't be doing a Predaking, it's fair competition for them to make one.

I mean hell, have you guys seen all of the Has/Tak Predakings, Headmasters, Stunticons and everything else the third party guys have been making going up for sale on ebay and sold used on BBTS etc. lately?

These guys aren't just competing with each other, they're competing with Has/Tak too.

Has/Tak can't go after them legally because the products they're making are different enough from Has/Tak's IP, and that's fine, but it's still competition.

I welcome it and have been hoping for it for several reasons. I want lower prices. $40~$60 for a deluxe and $80~$100 for a voyager figure is just absurd, I don't care how awesome it is. I pay it for the same reason all of you do: there is no viable alternative and that's what they sell for no matter where you buy from.

It's also good to finally have choices with regards to the looks/designs. I wasn't a huge fan of FP's Headmasters, but in years past I would not have skipped them because they were still better than G1. Now I'm able to skip them and still have updated versions of those characters in my collection (thanks to Toyworld).

The same goes for the Predacons here. UT offers more slavish G1 accuracy and lower pricing, while MMC offers more unique designs on a larger scale but for a higher price. That's reasonable. If TFC throws their hat into the ring, it will likely be some combination of the 2 (large scale but with greater G1 accuracy).

I say keep it up, please! No matter what happens, as long as there's competition, the consumer wins. Monopolies are bad, which is why third parties exist to begin with because Has/Tak's monopoly on these characters and properties means that we have to settle for what they put out, including when they decide to never update some characters at all.
