Also, Bodrock, did you ever hear of the titanium Optimal Optimus toy? Its a smaller version of this beast wars toy all in die cast. And its missing one of the modes: the gorila mode. Thats right, the one mode it didnt give on a beast wars toy was the beast mode.

I still have the pdf on my phone to reference for the transformation, Will! I keep monkeying around with the gorilla form. But wow, I can't believe that wasn't his primary mode, and he preferred flight - I never would have guessed.

I've seen the little Titanium Optimal, but had no idea they didn't include the actual beast mode! I wonder what they were thinking exactly with its exclusion....

They were very limited in terms of what they could do with those toys. Since it was all die cast, it was hard to have decent transformations, so having a head that hides away in the body might have been tough, who knows.

And yeah, in the show he only became the gorilla twice. And I dont think we ever see him transform into the gorilla from another mode. I think we see that car mode even less.

I have no interest in Optimal's car mode, but will get to his jet....for photos. ;)

Did some hunting for wave4 deluxes with no luck. So I bought MMC Boreas (lol) and these instead:

Woah, whats automata? When my first kid was born in august 2015, I really lost touch with the gaming world so I dont really know whats out (I also hated the ongoing trend of everything being online multiplayer). But this looks cool. Is it a JRPG? Third person Hack and Slash? is it exclusive to PS4?

Curently playing Fire Emblem Awakening and loving every second of it.

Hey Will - yes NIER: Automata (PS4) is a sequel to NIER (PS3) as well as Drakengard (same universe?).

Basically, it's an action-JRPG with swords, sorcery and a bit of bullet-hell gameplay. Add in a beautiful soundtrack and a messed up, unique story/characters, and this is what you get! There are robits too. ;)

NIER was completely overlooked by most, but due to all the stuff I mentioned above, it garnered cult status. This led to Drakengard3 and now Automata!

Having only played Automata's demo, I can tell the combat was vastly improved thanks to Platinum Games' development.

Unfortunately, this means Xenoblade Chronicles got bumped to after Dark Souls3 and Automata....sorry Sigma!!

Loved Awakening btw!

I played Automata's demo as well and liked it quite a bit. Gameplay by platinum should tell you exactly how it plays. I dug the look and the gameplay, but some of the forced angles kinda bugged me. I have a wicked backlog so I'll wait for a sale.

Is Xenoblade related to Xenogears? If so I haven't dabbled in that water since PSone.

I've had Awakening for years, and I've never been able to sink my teeth in. I have Heros on my phone and I'm having the same issue. Too much gotcha mechanics for my liking.

I did however just pick up Blaster Master Zero on the 3DS and I'm enjoying the ever living crap out of it. Blaster Master on the NES is one of my all time favorite games. I'm sneaking in rounds of BMZ in between playing the No Man's Sky Pathfinder update.

Kinda? I think they're part of the same general franchise, but the plots are unrelated?...maybe? :HEADHURTS:

I definitely understand that backlog problem, Cary! And since it's a Squenix release, you can count on availability and a cheaper price later on. I just wanted to show my support for the franchise with my purchase.

Xenoblade is a spiritual successor to Xenogears, just as Xenosaga was -- so you could jump right in, but the first installment is on the Wii and the second on WiiU! :p

Yes, give Awakening a try! Great fun. I enjoyed Heroes for a little while, but ultimately, the maps were basically too small for my tastes in the end.

BMZ sounds fun if it's anything like the NES original! Can you tell me more about No Man's Sky? My gaming focus has narrowed down to primarily RPGs, with the occasional dose of stylish, hard-action. ;)

I rarely buy games new at full price because of said wicked backlog.

I don't have the correct consoles for any Xenoaction ATM. I grew up on JRPGs and I'll consume almost anything that I can grind lvls in.

I like Awakening, I just have a bad case of oh shiny when it comes to games. I just need to strap in and commit some time.

BMZ is a remaster/remake/reboot of the original. It's very awesome ;)^

NMS is very divisive. I'll over simplify it by saying Minecraft in space only simplified. Fly around space, do pointless stuff, build pointless stuff - it caters to a very specific taste and isn't for everyone. I've sunk a ton of time into it at launch, after patches, after the foundation update and now after the pathfinder update.

I'll drop this here for you to check out on your own: No Man's Sky

No Man's Sky sounds really interesting, Cary -- it also sounds like my kids could watch without any issues, unlike me playing the Witcher 2 or potentially the upcoming Persona5! They definitely won't be able to watch Automata -- maybe Xenoblade, unless Sigma sez otherwise! ;)

Handhelds were where I was doing most gaming....but I'll always prefer a console.

I wonder if a Platium Games sequel to DEVASTATION is in the works....!

NMS is parent tested and kid approved. There is very little killing in it. Mostly just rando weird looking alien animals and space pirate ships. The main thing I do outside of crafting is just walk/ride/fly around enjoying the sights.

I have a game thread in my sig that I've been neglecting for sometime now. It's just hard to make the time for toys, games and talking about toys and games. Maybe it's time to go puke about some of the new stuff I've been playing. I just nabbed ABZU on sale and I've been itching to fire it up. I call it underwater Journey if you're familiar with that game.

My first console that was just mine was an NES. The 'rents had a few systems before that for the famdamily. Intellivision, Collecovision, Sega Master System and that's when me and my dad split camps. I was a Nintendo guy and he was a Sega guy. Worked great as we didn't miss any games. I parted from Ninty after the Cube (not counting handhelds), but Breath of the Wild is calling me back.

I had 3 Playstations; first one died, second one got buggy and then I got a PSone late in the lifecycle. One of the biggest problems with the modern gaming systems economy is just how financially invested you get. I'm sure I have 1000s of dollars tied up in the PSN. It just makes sense to keep getting the systems that support my library/purchases for my active 3 PS consoles.

Nier is a game I wanted to play but never got a chance to because it was so hard to find on the market for a good second hand price (like 10-15$). Much like Okami, Folklore, valkyria chronicles, xenoblade chronicles, that game where you are a young kid with a big monster, that game where you are a one man army (something warriors, its the game hellscream likes).

Eventually I did get okami through the humble bundle and Valkyria chronicles came to PC, which was probably the best game I played that year.

And I like Platinum a lot, its definitely one of my favourite studios but and while I have played all their games so far (and trying to backlog their games when they were cloverfield studios) I find that they get samey pretty quick. The ton of options for combat techniques means that enemies arent very unique and thus you end up simply dodging and doing your strongest move, and they can get either boring or frustrating since they will spice it up by giving you bosses that have such a small window for you to fight back. I quit madworld at the frankensetin boss fight. I quit bayonetta at the boss fight where a massive angel has this thing sticking out of his mouth and I quit Transformers because I just got bored of it all being the same. I might go back to it one day, maybe. But having such a limited roster and very simple atacks is not the greatest. I guess I preffer having somewhat of an rpg aspect to switch up the fighting style (I dont need much, God of War has a simple fighting evolution tree, I dont need much more than that), or have other things to do than fight (of course, I wouldnt want the other stuff to totally take over the fighting which is what happend in Dark Souls 2). Platinum also isnt tops with their stories either. For the life of me, I cant tell you what the story of Metal gear rising was aside from Raiden killing the governour.

But I still like that studio. Vanquish was phenomenal, nice evolution of enemy types and cool settings. And super fun mechanic that didnt get boring. I love when all your hard work pays off at the end and they just let you get loose with everything you learnt, making for a really fun final boss fight.

Anyways all to say that platinum teaming up with a property I always wanted to explore sound great to me. I will check it out some day for sure!

If you like Platinum games, bullet hell and unique / challenging boss fights, have you ever checked out Furi?

It's basically boss rush the game and kinda on the hard side. Victories are hard earned but rewarding once you figure out the patterns. It was a PS+ game a few months back.

No, I never did. I also didnt try bayonetta 2 due to its (really odd) exclusivity, neither viewtiful Joe 2 or that PS2 game they did in their previous studio where you create your own combos in fistfights.

Oddly enough, I never went for demos. I just try the whole game out and stop when it tires or frustrates me. hence why I get games for cheap, in case I dont like em.

My system of choice is the nintendo DS. That is not a joke, its all I have time for these days. I also play on PC but its not a great gaming one, its just a laptop which is showing its age. it just barely was able to play transformers Devastation.

And I havent plugged in my PS3 since I moved one year ago.

If anyone can recomend me great DS/3DS games I am all ears!

Apparently not ;) I just recommended Blaster Master Zero (eshop only). If you like old school side scrolling Metroidvania type games I'd highly recommend it.

The thing that bugs me the most is that they didn't use the bottom screen to its fullest advantage. Dropping the map down there would have saved me a lot of awkward reaches to the start button.

I missed this at first, but the game rewards players for experimenting with different weapon types during the top down sections. Habit will have you choosing the most powerful weapon, but it's not always the best choice, hint hint...

I also just started Luigi's Mansion on the 3DS. Not only is it a fun game but it has a ton of replayability.

I bought it. Its the one for $10 right? Which has 4 of the old games in one? I started playing it but it just drops you right into the action and I felt really disoriented. there wasnt even a text to know what was up.

Great I will look into it!

And Luigi's mansion is just top notch. There is only one flaw with the game, just one. But its **** major. When you see the giant never ending staircase, you will know. But aside from that, its amazing!

As for replayability you mean going back to get the missing gems right? yeah, thats super fun!
