Wish we could see some pictures of how Cyclonus and Galvy would look with Titanium Scourge though. I guess that'll just be something to look forward to when I finally get the guy myself.

But, wow....Cheetor is just...terrible. I considered buying him the other day when I found him at a store, but now I'm very glad I didn't. This figure was so very badly designed. The original is actually far better.
If they repaint it as Tigatron, I *might* decide to get it. But Tigatron really deserves his own mold, which I would buy in a heartbeat....

I sure hope I get some $ for my birthday this year or I may not be able to get him. (That sure sounds odd coming from a 36 year old man-how sad)

I don't know, Cheetor is looking better to me. Maybe it's just how his face looks older, more mature to me now that I can see it. Hound and Cyclonus look good.

Speaking of 'upgrades', was there a specific decision not to include the Botcon Cyclonus in the comparison shots?

Ryan, nice job with the galleries. Did you touch up any areas of Cyclonus with the sharpie besides his face? I hadn't thought of doing that yet, but I think I might have to give it a try. Looks great. Although, I should wait until I find another Cyclonus in case I mess it up.

Oh, and great job on the galleries as always!

Barrelass wrote:Gonna have to get me another Cyclonus and sharpie it up. Another awesome set of galleries Ryan. Sorry if you have already answered this, but did you have much photography experience before starting the site? Cause you do some incredible work.
I really got into photography because of this site. I started doing galleries 5 years ago this week ... the first ones to get the gallery treatment were Masterpiece Convoy (MP-01), Binaltech Smokescreen and Binaltech Sideswipe. The galleries have come a long ways since I first started doing them 5 years ago. 119,978+ images and 1,640 galleries later ...
Check out some of the older galleries. You can definitely tell how much my style has changed.

The only thing I don't like about Cheetor is his arms. The rest of him I think offers a unique, more serious, look than his original incarnation. I just can't believe that that was the best they could do with his arms.
I'm very interested in seeing what they did with Dinobot ...
As for the possibility of Cheetor being repainted into Tigatron, I think it's probably a given at some point. Though after having a really nice alt mode for Cheetor with this new version, I have to really question what they were trying to do with the original version which had more of a tiger mode to begin with. It definitely wasn't very "cheetah" like. It'd be interesting to see Tigatron with a more "cheetah" like mode.

Time and availability. I've got Botcon Cyclonus boxed away at the moment and really didn't feel that he needed comparison pics with that version. Now the one that I really wanted to comparison pics of was the new Hound with Alternator Hound but what can you do ... I needed to get these galleries up and as it was it took me almost 4 weeks to do it. There is a gallery of Botcon Cyclonus if you wanted to post pictures for the sake of comparison side-by-side.

I just did his face and his neck. I originally did his ears but the sharpie ink wouldn't stick to that softer plastic so I used some goo-gone to take it off. It seems to stay on fine with the harder plastic.

I actually think the vehicle mode of the G1 is still better, a lot more sleek and streamlined, but the Universe one still looks good. They had to sacrifice a bit to make such an awesome robot mode, and that's fine by me.

Silver Metallic Sharpie

I've used it to fix up little nicks and scuffs on various figures that have had silver paint worn off of them. It's my new wonder tool. I also used it to make a couple of small modifications like giving Classics Prowl a shiny new set of missiles on his shoulders.

Awesome, thanks man. I can already think of a bunch of TFs that need some fixing on their silver paint apps. Thanks Ryan!

Now, had this been marketed as a G2 Starscream, I would have been more positive about this figure.
Maybe we all have the Henkei one already. I dunno, it is a pretty simple repaint but it still looks more like G1 Starscream than the first Classics release. I'm passing simply because I've already got the Henkei. If I didn't, I'd probably go for the Universe one.

That's it I'll get the Telemocka reissue instead. Or I buy him and call and let him ring some bells, It'S a what if Quasimodo would be a TF.

Only thing that is more "G1" about the new version is the revised paint apps on the wings, which are from the Henkei version. Other than that, the original classic version is a more darker grey like the G1 toy is.

Allow me...
Achem, Universe Starscream is a piss poor rendition of an otherwise celebrated mold. The complete lack of details, odd choice in primary coloring, and off color red make this toy stand out in ways that make it look like a KO from 10 feet away.
Placing this toy next to the Henkei version will make you feel things inside. If you are able to avoid the massive upheaval you feel brewing deep down in your gut, you might ponder why or even how such a simple toy can draw such a complex reaction.
I refuse to say that Henkei is a superior line to Classics/Universe, but this Universe 2.0 Starscream only keeps me from speaking to that very subject by means of the swell of bile I am attempting to keep down.
Hyperbole? Or just the fair and balanced side?

...yeah, I didn't look at the gallery since I'm not interested in the figure.
Also, well done CP.

I know it doesn't help you now, but if you're ever in Richmond check out a store called Beans in Aberdeen mall. I got a Cyclonus there yesterday, but it was the last one. There's always a chance they could get more in the future! Crystal Mall next to Metrotown is worth checking out too, I haven't been there lately though.

Im still divided on Cyclonus though, cant decide if I prefer The Classics 2.0/Universe version or Henkei. Its not a case of "which is superior" just a matter of preferance if anything..
Personally I quite like Cheetor.. even if he does have a huge back.

I'll be getting both because they're so unique but I definitely prefer the Hasbro version after I took a silver metallic sharpie to his face.

Because I can't stand it when the faces are unpainted. I'd rather have a blue faced Ironhide than an unpainted face. Actually, come to think of it, it was the blue faced Ironhide that made me want to try the silver sharpie in the first place. The painted faces also photograph much better than unpainted ones.

Agreed. The face is an key aspect to the overall look of the toy. An painted face can drastically change my impression of an figure, like for Cyclonus, just adding silver to the face makes him look way better. The face is one of the first things I look at on a Transformer.

The only reason I'd pass on the Starscream repaint at this point is the very fact the character is Starscream. Even then, I'm fairly sure that the next time I see this figure on a local peg I'll grab it and keep this one carded.

As it aughta be. I'd stick with U2.0, but that's just me. If you'd rather go with Henkei, it should be out of preference.

The only unkind word I have for Cheetor is about that back yer talking about, and even then, I'd take it. The figure's just prime with me...
