Coming from Transformers Facebook fan page Planet Iacon, we have actual images of POTP Legend Class Tailgate, Roadtrap, and Battleslash! These figures were shown off previously at a Hasbro event in Australia, but were censored out of all photos from the event, so we never actually got to see them. Tailgate is clearly a remold of Windcharger, and Roadtrap and Battleslash, of course, are homages to the Duocon BattleTrap, except each piece now has it's own robot mode! They both appear to be new molds, but it's unknown if they truly combiner as the G1 version did. This obviously has reignited rumors of other Duocon, like Flywheels, so continue the discussion in the EnergonPub Forums!
Thanks to Seibertronian MaverickPrime for sending this our way!

I feel special, I feel like after sending it to Thew, I opened the floodgates on Twitter haha.
I'm really excited about a possible Flywheels now, I bet they do combine, but why isn't it advertised?

Also roadtrap has a clear line of separation down his middle.
Here's hoping that he works better then heavytread from the minicon combiner Centuritron

I was actually fiddling around with the mini-con combiner... it's still pretty cool, and rather impressive given the scale of the three little guys... though I do wish it hid the rotor blades better

It's Powerlinking of sorts. It helps distract from the fact Roadtrap basically sticks his head up Battleslash's butt.

is battleslash a fembot? Would be more interesting that way.

I remember hating battle trap when I first received him as a kid. Thought he was too simple and lacking the fun I had transforming the others. But as time went by I warmed up to him and also got flywheels.
Must admit, after beachcomber these guys are the figures I'm most excited about from the POTP line thus far.

Take a look at the images below, showing how they form the two parts of the bigger robot - our friend Battletrap - and let us know what you think in the Energon Pub discussion boards!

Combined mode looks good. Individual modes look good too! Approval stamped!

BTW, the one local Walmart that's had the wave 1 Legends for a week and a half now still has four Windchargers, one Shrapnel and nothing else. Not a good sign for 'Charger.

Hopefully Battleslash survives longer than the G1 helicopter half I had as a kid which exploded one time when I combined the two halves. Now I wonder what they'll call the two halves of Flywheels?

Flyby?
GrindWheels?

I'm more excited for these Legends than their Leaders.

So, now that we got Legends-class figures jamming up into each others...erm...interface port, think we're going to see some remake of Micromasters figures?

Skritz wrote:Well, Battletrap surprisingly managed to live up to my expectations. Its quite an interesting remake of the Duocon and one which manage to look shockingly accurate to his old G1 art even with the new gimmick of giving his two halves a robot mode. He's also now, technically, an itty-bitty legends class two-man combiner and that's adorable and novel.

Well, so far they've done:
City bots
Combiners
Headmasters
Powermaster
Targetmasters
Pretenders
Duocons
Beast formers
The only things really left are action masters and micromasters. Maybe breastforce? Brain masters?

YES 100%. As a kid I had the original Flywheels, (I thought the Tank/Jet was better than the Helicopter/Truck)but I always got there names confused. Funny because I don't get Topspin or Twin Twist confused (Probably because I associate Twist=drill missiles). But I still get Runamuck and Runabout confused...

For Runabout and Runamuck for me, I think of "muck" as being like an icky black substance, but then I remember that it's the opposite-colored guy with the "muck"-sounding name.o.supreme wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Does anyone else kinda wish that Battletrap and Flywheels had originally had their names switched so that the one made up of more obviously battle-based vehicles (the fighter jet and tank) had been named "Battletrap", while the one with the more obviously visible wheels (on the truck), rather than treads, had been named "Flywheels"?

As for Battletrap and Flywheels, I feel it's worth mentioning that, in their debut episode of The Headmasters, their name captions were indeed switched on the screen, labeling the jet/tank guy as "Battletrap" and the truck/helicopter guy as "Flywheel" (no "S" in the Japanese name).

I doubt we'll see the Actionmaster characters as actual action masters but they definitely are to be considered as a possibility for future generations lineup. Personally I'm betting more on the 'Euro G1' stuff getting redone before anything truly exclusive to japan, with the exception of maybe Star Saber and Deathsaurus on the simple basis they are the lead hero and villain of a show.
I should add that my interest in seeing the Micromasters is entirely because I'd love to see what Hasbro could do with a lineup of smaller figures, given that we've had some rather excellent Legends-class figures and would be quite interested to see things like two-packs, three packs or 'playset' like the bases being given a second chance. That and smaller figures save on plastic and I'm sure that is something Hasbro would not be adverse to.
Small figures are not inherently bad when they strike a good deal between size and complexity and most modern legends class figures have been very nice and poseable for something small, with good looking robot and alt modes. So the potential is there. That and potentially they could 'do a Combiner Wars' and make heavy use of shared engineering to allow for more characters at a fraction of the cost and the possibility of shared gimmick engineering. Plus, maybe I just want to army build huge crowds of Autobot and Decepticon micromasters. One can hope that it is something Hasbro has considered for future lines.

As for Action Masters...I don't know...we got deluxe Krok in TR...maybe if they could create actual alt modes for some of them? I can't see Hasbro investing in another Transformers action-figure line of non-transforming toys, but I'm usually 100% wrong, so it probably is in the works.

o.supreme wrote:Sorry, just my opinion, but with TT and Hasbro *merging brands* I would think we might *hopefully* see more characters from the japan lore. I'm not really into the few Euro exclusive characters. But we've already seen plenty of Japanese characters in the Generations line. Liokaiser, Sky Shadow, Metalhawk etc...and I'd love to see more, only time will tell.

To that I would say I didn't really expect them to invest in pretenders. I only joked about the possibility.

I'm usually impressed by Takara/Hasbro's ability to engineer smaller figures. They honestly make me disappointed in voyagers and leaders because of the engineering and complexity at the smaller scale. And what about micromasters could they do that they haven't already done at the legends scale? They'd have to make bases, combined vehicles, or transports. Given how low some of the prime and movie playsets have sold, I'm guessing they won't venture into that.

Honestly I don't see that happening any time soon.

My guess being that we'll see more Actionmasters over the years being used as filler for lines using molds they otherwise would not reuse.
My pitch on the Action Masters would be to make them a more articulated version of the Prime Master shell, sacrificing weapon mode, with a Titan/Head Master Head in the backpack of the character.
Deluxes would go back to the TR style. And my pitch would be to “sweeten” the obscure characters by bundling in a spare head of an iconic character. The Deluxes themselves would be a mix of G1 hodge podge and Transmetals homages. (Which creates an opening for mutant faces as separate Titan Masters.)
Legends would power-link.
And I think the goal I’d set with Voyagers would be triple changers with two robot modes. Have a few exceptions to let Doubledealer and others in. I’d probably look at a new Rodimus in here.
Have Leaders echo the Powerlink gimmick. Big robot mode. Single big vehicle mode. But split into two Deluxes. ATB Megatron/Starscream also released as Dreadwind/Smokejumper.
This would basically be like Powerlinking if a big, articulated robot mode was the first design consideration.
