Takara's Transformers Prime "First Edition" figures were on display at the Tokyo Motor Show 2011, and Autobase Aichi has been kind enough to share some images with the fan community. We see all eight "First Edition" figures plus DSM Deluxes Que/Wheeljack, Soundwave, and the Takara exclusive Neoscanning Bumblebee. We've mirrored their images from the show below.

The show exclusive Neoscanning Bumblebee can be seen in hand here.

Shiny...

I may go for the Takara versions of Optimus and Bumblebee from this line.

Possibly Cliffjumper and the generic Decepticon as well.

I would prefer their Bulkhead too, if he had a matte finish on the paint.

I'm loving old CJ personally. I'm stoked he finally got a completely independent design from BB. Pricing will make the difference for me. Shiny paint is cool, but Wal-mart is cheap :)

It'd be nice to have metallic painted guys, but if they costs and arm and a leg it's not really worth it (in my opinion). I could always get shiny/metallic paint and do it myself, if I really wanted and shiny versions

Looks like only Optimus, Bulkhead, Cliffjumper, and maybe Bumblebee are any different.

i was excited about the drone when i first heard about it but now im not, the takara version of cliffjumper looks better than hasbros but still not buying, the rest dont look any different to me. Id also like to add that the tfprime guys are in fact really really small, seen the first wave in TRU the other day and they are smaller than you think. If you think the DOTM guys are small youre going to appalled and shocked at how much smaller these are. Arcee looks like a scout in a deluxe box and starscream might as well be a pencil. Bumblebee is the only one that is close to DOTM size but hes still small in comparison. Plus just by looking at them you can tell the plastic is of a cheaper quality than the other lines out now. Im probably just going to skip this line all together unless there is a really good sale going on then ill pick up 1 or 2 just so i can still say i have something from every toyline. I feel bad for the young tf fans, their toys arent going to last long and their parents or them are going to have to waste money on replacements or just move on. its pretty sad if you think about it.

Looking at that close-up of Cliffjumper the plastic appears slightly transparent. I'm simply not digging it. Might get Takara's Arcee and Bumblebee, and any other sports vehicle characters, but I think the majority will be Hasbro's versions. (My wallet's response: :APPLAUSE: )

That DOTM BB looks good but not good enough for me to buy. I picked up HA DOTM BB and that's where it ends for that movie character. But that Vehicon and SW look better and better. I will have to see some comparison images for both in order to make a choice, Hasbro or Takara. 8-} That Wheeljack is a gundam joke on and off the screen and no suprise that the alt-mode looks much better...'nuff said! :VEHI:

I can't say enough good things about the PRIME figure line. These 1st figures coming out are just fricken sweet. I am chomping at the bit to get my hands on all of them. So far I have the NYCC set and 1st run of deluxe Arcee and Screamer.

Meh...Nothing of any real importance it would appear. I suppose any news on the next move for Generations wont be until next generation......

They look good, but I'm not getting the Takara versions. Way to expensive. I have to import Transformers Prime anyway since I live in an insignificant little country.

The line looks great, but what's the deal about the First Editions?
Are they different paint or moldwise then the regular versions?
Are there any regular versions coming out? Or is it just the first wave with a fancy extra name to sell more?

"First Edition" refers to the first nine figures coming out at this time in limited quantity. The actual mass retail main line, called "Robots in Disguise", doesn't start until March.

Bumblebee and Cliffjumper will be getting whole new figures for the RID line.

Example, FE on the top with RID on the bottom

Forgive me, this is the first I've heard of this RiD line: is RiD simply a new sub-heading of the Prime line (e.g. Transformers Prime: Robots in Disguise), or is it a brand new line that will include the Prime figures (like how the WFC figures were included in the Generations line)?

It's the official store designation for the line, like how the 2010 line had "Autobot Alliance" and Dark of the moon has "Mechtech". You'll only see it on the price cards on the pegs and shelves.

It's a shame to see that Soundwave is smaller than Wheeljack, but according to the comparison between WJ and DLX BB, Soundwave should be at least as tall as Bumblebee (and hence taller than Sideswipe). Both continue to look awesome.

I must also say that Takara's TFP Optimus Prime is the best toy version of the character that I've seen since Buster Optimus Prime. And that's saying something.

or the first movie had the Allspark power figures, which just had slightly different paintjop and neon blue detailing

Nope, the figures you speak of were limited exclusives, and the name came from a subline imprint. I'm talking about names of main lines altogether.
