Heck they might even cut the s#!t out of it to make things more kid-friendly. The Fathom edition of 'DBZ: Battle of Gods' cut out the brief scene where Mr. Satan was actually called such. Oh well, going regardless.
I probably should've gone to some of those Hayao Miyazaki movies this summer, but Fathom is almost entirely about Rifftrax for me.

There exist two different versions of that movie, even in Japanese. An 85-minute theatrical version, and a 105-minute extended version that was first shown on Fuji TV. It was the shorter theatrical version that was screened in theaters outside of Japan. Both versions of the movie are available, in both Japanese with subtitles and in English dubbed form, on its DVD/Blu-Ray releases by FUNimation.Bumblevivisector wrote:The Fathom edition of 'DBZ: Battle of Gods' cut out the brief scene where Mr. Satan was actually called such.

I guess I can only hope that enough pre-tickets sell to motivate them to add a Tuesday Encore. This is not unprecedented. Although it was Funimation (and not Fathom), dates were extended for Shin Godzilla's limited release in September 2016, although to be fair, that was a new film, not one that's 31 years old. Oh well, c'est la vie. I guess that's what I have the Blu-Ray, 2 DVD's, and 3 VHS versions for.
As for what the audience will see however, I'd love to see an original print from 1986, but I'm sure those were not preserved. It will no doubt be a digital broadcast of the Blu-ray, though it would be nice if somehow they showed the 4K source (since S!F said the Blu ray came from a 4K newly restored Print). I'm sure it wont be edited in any fashion though.
Aside from seeing the film originally in theaters in 1986, I saw the film at a Hotel Ballroom at SDCC in 1993 (where I proved to my friends the swear word existed that had been cut from all VHS up to that time). Also I saw it at Botcon 2000, though I think that was just a projection of the Rhino DVD which had just came out IIRC

So it has been updated, and my local theaters have chosen for Sep. 27...
King Lear
500 years you've had to show king lear and you pick Sep. 27, of all the low down dirty sidewindin' snake in the grass, good for nothing, tin-horned, yellow bellied, wagon rutted,
Wheelie is Shakespeare you nerf-herders!
Better now.
Maybe there will be a second showing if there are enough ticket sales.
Edit:
Just a heads up,MORE theaters have been added!
One an hour away from me now.

This Saturday though I have invited some friends to watch the Blu ray in my home. We usually do double features at whoever hosts the event pics the theme (We've done 80's sci-fi and Westerns), so I'm doing animation. I would think GI Joe:TM would be a natural pairing for TF:TM, but I have some others I'm considering...Lensman, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, Titan A.E. are some of my favorite animated films...

I must have saw it the first week of September, because I clearly remember watching Five Faces of Darkness when it debuted. I had really connected with Hot Rod during the movie, so when it got to Rodimus Prime's "death scene", I just couldn't believe it. What monsters those Decepticons were! I had to leave for school at that commercial break in order to catch the bus in time, so I sat in school all day wondering what the Autobots were going to do now that Optimus Prime and Rodimus Prime had died, not knowing yet that Rodimus Prime was ultimately fine and that Springer did not become leader of the Autobots. I was very distraught! It wasn't until I saw the rest of the episode during the afternoon re-airing that I got to find out that Rodimus Prime was actually OK, but I'll never forget that very long school day worrying about the poor Autobots and being sad that Optimus Prime and Rodimus Prime had died!
Once the movie came out on VHS, I was absolutely obsessed over it. About a year after the movie had come out, I used to brag that I had seen the movie over 50 times, and then 100 times (I might have been exaggerating a little bit, but I'm sure I hit those goals not long after). To this day, it's one of the only movies that I can recite almost line for line while watching it. It's burned into my brain like a favorite song.
This movie has a very strong place in my childhood. It definitely left its mark, intentionally or not, and continues to be one of my absolute favorite things to watch. It helped cement my love for all things Transformers and might very well have been what kept me as a Transformers fan during those pivotal years in my childhood.
Bought my tickets today so I can go see it with my wife and two daughters. My daughter is 9 now so it'll definitely be a passing of torch moment (though it's often a staple of background TV noise while I'm working so I'm sure she's familiar with most of it already). Can't wait to see it on the big screen again!

Saw it again at a movie theatre with my parents in Greensboro, NC three weeks later. There was a Toys r us in the same mall where we saw the movie and my Dad took me to buy a Transformer. I lied and said I had all the figures on the shelves so he could buy me Ultra Magnus, who happened to be the most expensive of the assortment at $25.

TF:TM could have still been out in theaters in early September...not sure what the cycle time was on it, but I imagine it was shorter than most films. Still, back then, theaters were a bit more selective about when to pull a movie from theaters, and not so regulated as they are now.
According to TF Wiki FFOD premiered on 9/15/86, which was a Monday. I thought it corresponded with labor day (being Sept 1st), because IIRC all the kids at my first day of 5th Grade (which would have been Sept 2nd) were talking about it, but of course it could have just been TF:TM we were talking about, then FFOD 2 weeks later. I DO remember though that FFOD AND "Arise Serpentor Arise!" aired the same week. That (and the TF GI Joe Marvel crossover) was what finally got me into GI Joe, I had always turned it off when it came on before or after Transformers because it just didn't interest me like TF did. But from that point on, they were pretty much tied together, though I did never get into GI Joe comics or toys, I really did have a late blooming appreciation for the animated series.
Slightly OT... In 1990/91 I was in high school and was irritated that DiC brought back only GI Joe and not Transformers...in hindsight, that was probably a good thing though. (seeing as how I much prefer what Japan did with Headmasters, MF, Victory etc...)

Skip forwards about 2 years and I actually get my own VHS of it, which is when I can actually remember seeing it properly. To say I watched it a lot would be an understatement and every sound, sight and song is etched into my memory.
A lot of new(er) (and by new I mean post Beast Wars) might not always get the full scope of the film to the community. I can remember Rodimus Prime once said for a long time the movie was the community. It dominated the lore and whilst we're still seeing the effects of that (IDW: Unicron, Movieverse: Matrix), its hard to fully appreciate how much discussion we got from those 90 minutes of animation in the way back.

Funny, the only reaction I recall from other kids was the shout of "Laserbeak!" when the first recognizable character flew out. If there were any screams and crying when Op died, I must have been too stunned to notice. At age 7, I'd already gotten cynical enough to know the cartoon barely had continuity from one ep to the next, and that trailers always made movies look cooler than they actually were. So the question "Does Prime die?!?" was met with an understanding that nothing would actually change, so of course not. Therefore, seeing this in the theater in '86 was the only time a movie actually shocked me by being several times better than whatever I was expecting going in, an effect I will never experience again. Sure I liked Optimus, but maybe because my dad's the most stable guy on earth, I was fine with surrogate-father-figure-leader dying a heroic death and passing leadership on to a younger character I could actually identify with. And most of the other deaths amounted to characters whose toys were so clunky I never wanted them being replaced by cooler-looking new guys, so I was perfectly fine with it. Violence finally had consequences, including a better story and characters! And since my parents mostly played folk and country, the music was this huge breath of fresh air; I wouldn't budge from my seat until the credits were completely over, I just didn't want it to end.
As we walked out, the last family to do so: "I didn't know a movie could be that good!"
"Yyyyyeah, we're picking the movie next time." I think they may have actually said it in unison.
And when new eps of the cartoon came back, I realized it didn't have to end, and Transformers has been my favorite thing ever since. Animation quality apparently didn't register with me at age 7, but I genuinely liked where season 3's story went way more than in the first 2 seasons. And you know what? Rodimus Prime was actually a better leader; cartoon Op led his troops into certain death only to be saved by circumstances beyond his control at least two times too many for my taste. When we got a VCR for Christmas of '87, TF:TM was the first movie we ever rented, but I didn't get my own copy until early '98, from a video store that closed not too long afterward.
Saw it on the big screen once more at BotCon 2000, but will damn sure be seeing it at an AMC next month!

if you hit Cineplex's website, you can find listings of a few Canadian theaters playing this between the 29th and early October. its a lil tricky to find but just search for Transformers and you'll see "The Transformers" and you can then just enter a city to see if it plays in your area.
If you're in Ottawa, South Keys is playing it a few days between Sept 30th and October 6th!
so woo...we're not left out!

Two states away for me (Mass). It's exceedingly rare for Fathom to bring anything worth seeing this far north so I wasn't exactly optimistic when they added screens.

The limited release of this movie has absolutely nothing to do with its being animation instead of live action. This is a Fathom event. Those are ALWAYS limited releases, no matter what movie they show. Every movie released as a Fathom event is limited, be it for one night or several. That's the very nature of Fathom event movies.dragons wrote:And if it doesn’t well it proves what I have been stating new transformers fans don’t watch cartoons and don’t read comics they only like live action stuff., how many new transformer fan people will see this movie in theaters that are not part any transformer fan sites that don’t watch cartoons and read comics that will be interesting outcome

Transformers The Movie was last night not only showed the movie but at the beginning there was a small feature presentation with Travis Knight on the Bumblebee movie showing practical effect interactions with the actors of the movie. That feature is on you tube at this time. Also included after that was the full scene of Charlie Watson meeting Bumblebee in the garage for the first time and how she freaks out and tries to run away as bumblebee freaks out and hides in the corner after his transformation. Their meeting was very puzzling and heart warming to both of them as she tries to figure out what or who he is. She mention that the noises he makes sounds like a bumblebee and that's what she will call him. He then points to her as she first thinks he likes metal cause she is wearing a metal band t-shirt but then figures he wants to know her name and she tells him, "I am Charlie Watson." "I am 18." "Today is my Birthday." All with such wonder and curiosity as she displays during the scene. Then it cuts to additional trailer footage which we have seen before from what was release this week. Then after the credits of Transformers the Movie there was 2 interviews with Stan Bush. Which he sang 2 electric acoustic guitar solos of "Dare" and "Touch". Very enjoyable night!!!

I wasn't able to make it last night, but I would have been more disappointed if they were giving out posters with the original movie artwork. I still have my Back to the Future poster framed from a 25th anniversary screening that uses the original 80s design. I'm not sure why companies feel compelled to create new poster/DVD art for films when they are rereleased because, in my opinion, the usually don't live up to the original.

The Mrs and I had a good time. I'm not an audiophile nor cinephile, so I thought everything was great. A damn sight better than watching at home on my DVD.
The trivia before hand was too short and a bit easy, but the wrong answers were really good wrong answers.
The Bee movie extended sneak peak was unexpected and awesome, so was the Stan Bush stuff (glad we hung around after the credits). I wasn't expecting the posters so those were pure lagniappe.
Overall a great experience, glad we went and it was fun to rub elbows with fellow fans

I'm having trouble trying to find online any figures on how much the movie made last night. I'd be curious to know. boxofficemojo just posted Thursday estimates, and TF:TM wasn't on there, sometimes movies are added later, but if anyone has any stat references, this would be appreciated. Just wondering if it was a profitable enough to warrant any future screenings.

I wouldn't imagine such findings would be readily (if at all) available for such small-scaled limited special event releases like this, since this release wasn't intended to make a profit like any normal film release is; rather, this was just a special commemoration event coupled with hype-building for the next major film release.o.supreme wrote:Greetings,

My city only had two theaters showing the film and we didn't have a showing until they added additional theaters.Sabrblade wrote:I wouldn't imagine such findings would be readily (if at all) available for such small-scaled limited special event releases like this, since this release wasn't intended to make a profit like any normal film release is; rather, this was just a special commemoration event coupled with hype-building for the next major film release.o.supreme wrote:Greetings,

The one I choose wasn't even half full.
How was the turn out elsewhere?
