Takara has its big reveal day today, and that includes their next figures in Legacy, Beast Wars vs and the reveal of the new Dramatic Capture Series.

For Legacy, we have Silverbolt, which will be released as part of wave 2 in Legacy United. However, it is unclear if the deco we see is exclusive to Takara or if Hasbro's release will be identical.

For Beast Wars Vs we have Ghost Starscream and Waspinator two pack which has an MSRP of around $60 (so the same prices as a deluxe and voyager these days in the US).

Finally for the Dramatic Capture Series we have the box set of Decepticons in premium deco with throne. The MSRP is around the $110 mark.

None of these seem to be exclusive, so they will wind up on Amazon Japan with discounts, which will help make up for the added shipping cost. All are set of a March 2024 release.

I like Silverbolt
I wouldve appreciate something different about the upper arms in bot mode to look cleaner but im guessing it's show accurate to have the doggy paws up there

Shipping will be unavoidable.

Regardless, I'm really tempted to get the Waspinator and Ghost Screamer pack.
Wasp look great and I'm curious to see if that all clear Screamers will have SOLID joints instead of clear ones?

I KNEW that somehow, sometime, we’d be getting a new Ghost Starscream. That 2 pack is going to be a MUST for me, unless we get any sudden news of a regular release ghostie screamer.

I thought Waspinator was going to be clear plastic too. Might pass on it as much as i'd like the Starscream.

I look forward to SIEGE Shockwaves being dumped on eBay by people who get the set.

Image
Image
Armada Megatron looks pretty good, I have to say...

Image
Image
Image
...Though I definitely find him better with certain modifications made.

Image
I'm very happy they used this line to give Earthrise Dirge a real release. Glad to have him, he's pretty fun. This is actually my first time having any Earthrise Seekers, and I think it's a lovely mold.

Image
But I do hope if they do likewise for Ramjet and give us a Thrust restock, they'll switch to the original leg panels or else alter this one. This new leg panel they made for the Coneheads very clearly did not take altmode into account properly - they can't close properly and they block access to the flight stand port. And the limited access to the coneheads probably prevented Hasbro from getting adequate feedback.

Image
Image
Image
Blitzwing, I've already talked about a bit, but here's some pics. Also some more things of note:
* His ankle tilts don't work too well. At least, the right one doesn't. It's effectively a soft ratchet. The left one moves more freely for some reason.
* More bad design with the gauntlets: I discovered that while the pegs are hopeless, they can attach by slotting onto the arm panels... but the slots are on the same side as the 5mm pegs at the rear of the gauntlets, so the pegs up on the inside where they can conflict with his chest a bit.

Image
They make neat little drone turrets though.

And then of course there's this guy:
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Definitely every bit the showstopper he should be.

Image
Not full combiner size, but not too shy of it either.

Image
It'll be interesting to see how they handle Overload. And specifically, wearing both Overload and Jetfire at once; one of those two will have to come with a replacement backpack for that scenario.

Image
Action shot to round things out.

Why would they? It's the exact same toy but without the extra bits. Plus, Siege Shockwave is basically worthless because it was over-produced.

Well, that's just it: since they're the same toy, people who already had SIEGE Shocky would be unlikely to keep both after getting this set. They'd want to unload one or the other (and then there's the people who will be dumping this set's Shockwave because Soundwave was literally the only one they wanted).

Yeeeah. The days of getting SIEGE Shockwave near, at, or below retail on eBay... have sadly ended. But if a bunch of people started unloading them because of this set, that could well change.

I’m interested in that Decepticon 3-pack.
Although I still really don’t like the ER Megatron head sculpt…. It’s too small/narrow…. Or I guess the face sculpt should’ve been smaller.
I don’t know that I like the metallic paints on Soundwave.
And with this, I’m completely convinced this character needs a new mold—
for the love of God that stupid-ass landing gear on the forearms and lack of covers…
I mean that’s not the only issue I have with this mold, but for me those forearms are such eyesores.

I never bought Siege Shockwave…
So if I do get this set, I may end up being one who sells off that Megatron.

I agree so much on the need for forearm covers. That, plus no wrist-swivels on a lot of figures, and budget be damned, the extra nickel or even dime it would cost them is not an excuse. The bean counters have gotten out of hand with the hollowness, lack of paint and lack of articulation. Most of these figures could be near perfect with those things. I would bet the designers are frustrated as well. Now the clear plastic on joints or even windows needs to go too, and that may be on the designers. It doesnt look good to see a bunch of kibble crammed in there through the windows. Maybe I am in the minority, but I do not like the clear windows.

Initially I liked them because, well real windows are clear, not to mention the fact the OG toys had them as well. But I do agree it's a bit of an ugly view inside when all you see are hunks of plastic, so I have come around to the shaded windows more and more. It'd be different if what you saw inside were actually a vehicle's interior but that not likely to happen unless we want to add an extra $5 to the price in addition to body thickness.

I finally decided to get Skyquake and Dreadwing.

While my wallet was crying tears of blood, I played with them a bit. The ship does not hold itself very solidly. Just a bit of a shake and it's "breaking up". At least the ships look good and feel dense in hand.

Image

The transformation was easy enough to figure out, but the nosecone connecting onto the waist is not very solid. The overall bots looks very nice at least.

Image

I'll be looking forward a possible Machine Wars Starscream repaint. Or why not a Dai Atlas?

Still, anyone who own these gotta admit. 15 years ago, those two would have been sold as Ultra Class at the very most.

If the colors stay like that through to production then it's more of a toy accurate figure than the Siege version. I think the new one is a much better looking figure. It is weird that they're selling this as a cartoon set, but going for toy colors on all 3.

When I said "exact same", I mostly meant mold-wise. It was obvious that the deco would be somewhat different.

For this here Canadian, this Screamers-n-Wasp set will be a 140$CAN purchase. If it weren't for the shipping that cost a whopping 40$CAN, I would have bitten, but I won't for simple repaints of these.

I'm still not ruling out that set tho.

1. As stated, Kanra was talking about mold.
2. Uh, Emerje?

In the case of Shockwave the shades of purple used, and especially the gray gunbarrel, are in fact closer to the cartoon than the SIEGE release was.

Image
Image
Image
With Megatron... While the toy's silver chrome was usually approximated as flat gray due to the cartoon's cheap coloring, the cartoon did shade him as shiny now and again. And let's face it, the flat gray looks dull and ugly in toy form.

Image
Image
Image
As for Soundwave, how exactly did you get it in your head that he was toy deco? :???:

Some aspects are definitely toy-informed, but overall they are in line with the cartoon.

Posted by Emerje on October 8th, 2023 @ 9:45am CDT
When I was talking about toy colors I wasn't looking at any one specific thing. For Shockwave it was the purple, the lighter Siege colors are closer to the cartoon than the darker "Capture" colors that look more toy accurate. For Megatron it really comes down the shininess, at best cartoon Megatron looked like a well polished gray, not the chrome appearance of the original and new figures. And for Soundwave, yes, the purple isn't toy accurate, but the use of metallic gold and silver instead yellow and gray like the cartoon feels specifically toy based.

Granted, animation limitations and all that, but I see what I see.

It's too bad with all that reuse that they couldn't have simply tooled new Soundwave to include, that would have significantly swayed my considering the purchase of a 3-pk. As well as a brushed metal finish for megs. As is it really is just very passable.

I was wondering why the new Rumble turned out so light in color, most of the releases over the years as Frenzy have all been darker shade so that's what I had gotten used to seeing. lol

It's been so long since had seen the cartoon but I always though it was a tad darker, though it might have simply been my TV's settings.

So I made my own Junkasaurus which is 90% what I've found from other fans online, and 10% my own. I prefer the fully bi-pedal version as opposed to the crouching, or quadrupedal more "beastly" version, but I get why fans like those, they have their own coolness.

A couple of conundrums though.... Obviously despite rumors, there has been no Crashbar repaint/retool listed for the 2024 main Legacy Universe line. We may still get one as a store exclusive or Selects, but I'm holding out hope until we know for sure, Id rather wait with a one armed combiner than buy 2 Crashbars.

Next, as soon as I saw how tiny Trashmaster was (I believe he may be the tiniest voyager to date, or close to it), I knew this combiner would not quite stack-up to CW/UW/PotP . But its not too terribly small. If they had just made the voyager closer to ER Optimus Prime size... Im still debating though.

In all my combiner collection, I'm still one heroic combiner short. I was hoping Trashmaster might be the one (The Fossilizer combiner was cool, but was still too small and too unstable). But this Junkasaurus is "closer" I guess...?

I know most fans appreciate the Junkions as individuals. The idea is innovative and fun. But... If you were to display Junkasuarus combined in your collection, would it go with past combiners, or just on its own?

I think you might have left something out of the first half of this sentence. As is, it reads as an incomplete thought.

I think R1 means he wanted a completely new Soundwave mold, and not just a re-use of the Netflix mold.

Which would have been an odd thing to do, when the other 2 figures are existing molds.

Also, there’s still that Legacy United Leader class Soundwave out there we know nothing about. It may still be a G1 version with packed in cassettes to bump him up to Leader Class.

Granted, animation limitations and all that, but I see what I see.

I was on the same page with you about this…

I’ll also say, my preferences have definitely changed since 2007-ish where I used to love chrome details/parts, as well as metallic paint.
But all of that is pretty mehhh for me now.
It’s probably partly due to the fact that chrome/metallic details and parts aren’t consistent throughout most figures. The RotB Prime figure is a good example.
I also feel that sometimes those details are attempts at compensating for other aspects that are lacking.
With that Soundwave mold, I’d give up all the chrome/metallic paints in a heartbeat for forearm covers and no landing gear kibble.

Another example are the matte gray faces of Prowl and Ironhide from the “dead” 2-pack.
It’s not that it’s animation accurate, it’s that imo it just flat-out looks better. In fact, when there aren’t any metallics seen anywhere else, why is the just the face metallic on some of these figures?

This maybe was from a different thread, but this is similar to clear windshields and windows…
If there’s nothing to see in the interior, then there’s no need for transparent parts.
Solid plastic and paint are very legit options. I know, and more expensive. But still.

Thanks for posting the amazonjp link.
Knowing I have some time to decide, I went ahead and preordered that 3-pack…
I’m not totally convinced yet, but we’ll see.
Pretty sure I’d keep Shockwave and Soundwave. The throne will be sold-off, and I’ll need to see that Megatron in-hand. But I really dislike that head/face sculpt.
That was a missed opportunity and missed the mark big time. It looks like a bad KO imo.

The best move would be to have Machine Wars Soundwave out of the Doubledealer mold. For originality and for the entertainment value.

It would be original.

I would expect a retooled Dreadwing / Skyquake into MW Starscream.

I'm expecting that as well. That's why I made my wallet BLEED by getting these two on impulse last Friday.

I know that getting a (possibly) Legacy MW Screamers from that mold would make me want to get Skyquake and Dreadwing. So, before I'm stuck paying scalper prices...

Not what I’d prefer, but would be understandable.
I think there’s still a chance it could be a G1 version for the simple fact that there is a low number of G1 characters in the mainline overall. What is it, 3-4 for the whole year?

From everything I've seen of SIEGE Shockwave (and I've seen him in person as well as in photos), his purple doesn't really seem lighter - just bluer. Both the cartoon and the OG toy have a more reddish purple. And again, see the barrel color. SIEGE Shockwave has a purple gun mode barrel, cartoon has gray.

Emerje wrote:For Megatron it really comes down the shininess, at best cartoon Megatron looked like a well polished gray, not the chrome appearance of the original and new figures.
I've always seen that as "the closest the cartoon could get". And I reiterate that the chrome looks way better than plain gray. :P The plain gray looks bland and boring on a physical toy.

Where on this Soundwave is there any purple? Did you slip up and say the wrong color because you were distracted by Rumble in the screencap or something?

Emerje wrote:but the use of metallic gold and silver instead yellow and gray like the cartoon feels specifically toy based.
It's what I think of as additive cartoon accuracy, as opposed to reductive cartoon accuracy. It includes specific things the cartoon added (like head redesign, optics color, etc) and leans towards the cartoon's palette, but doesn't dumb down decals and metallic accents to match the cartoon's limits.

Emerje wrote:Granted, animation limitations and all that, but I see what I see.

Well, did you see that Soundwave has red eyes? That certainly isn't toy-based.

It would have been odd, yeah, but I get why R1 wanted it - being a SIEGE retool with leftover transformation engineering therefrom inflicts some definite awkwardness on Netflix Soundwave, plus the tape door is barely big enough for purpose.

I'm happy enough with configuring SIEGE SW into an ersatz G1 tape deck mode via that one kit. Now, if they were to put out a new Soundblaster from the Netflix mold.. that would have my attention.

Hmmm, maybe. Hadn’t thought of that. And makes sense if they include a couple of hexagonal canister minions.

My gut is telling me this Soundwave won’t be a G1 version.
I think that next incarnation will be in SS86 to go along with these newer SS86 Cassetticons.

So if this L.U. figure isn’t G1, I don’t care what it is.

If not G1, that does limit the possibilities of what it could be, as not many non-G1 Soundwaves could really work as Leader class. Probably just Machine Wars, Cybertron, and Prime.

Maybe EarthSpark too, but it's likely too soon for Hasbro to be considering Legacy toys of that series.
