Prime VS Prime once again deliver with a video review of Generations Select Transmutate!
This repaint and slight remold of Kingdom Paleotrex have a new head that represent the original Beast Wars tragic character. Another big change is also those "radioactive" shiny green parts all over her body.
Of course, she's a weaponizer so she can disassemble into parts to combine with your regular WFC Generations figures, and can be reconfigured in many shapes, true to the misshapen original.
Are you exited for this release? Or would you prefer a more "accurate" version instead of "just another repaint of an existing bot"?

I'm not into the figures like this at all...
I can't really think of a past gimmick that I like at all outside of combiners.
Also, I wonder just how much the fossilizers appeal to younger kids, if at all.
Surely some of the dino-related appearances do, but even then, who knows.

It had already happened but the possibilities to re-release it with improved hands and feet, along maybe a bonus accessory or two are very high. At the bare minimum, a Bruticus.

This would require hasbro to acknowledge CR/RiD2001. Best we're going to get for a while I nods like Siege UM alt mode.

He had a proper hands and feet, unless you mean "HFG". Personally I prefer the hands and feet he got from Computron, makes him look like more of a bruit compared to Bruticus.
However, if they wanted to do a proper Ruination in Hasbro colors instead of Baldigus I could perhaps be convinced to buy it again.

Why Hasbro? So far, the Select combiners are ALL Takara endeavor like the original UW Ruination.
Each times Takara did a Select combiner, it always come with new hands and feet, no HFG, plus some new parts.
Still, I expect Bruticus to be re-released first before the way less popular Ruination.

True, I thought you had just meant Hasbro in the first place
Though takara is probably waiting (along with Hasbro) to see how the new Menasor does...then we'll be getting a new Bruticus anyway

I actually remember seeing fan-dubbed episodes of Car Robots back when I first got high-speed cable off of some streaming site I think was called Sputnik-7. This was just a bit before RiD 2001 was officially dropped. Good times. Something tells me Hasbro doesn't care though.

Why should Hasbro care? Car Robo / RID was just a filler line with 90% of the toys released were repaints of previous lines. Plus the fanbase is very minor.
If there's any omages or remakes in the work for a new series, the Unicron Trilogy would most likely take priority.

Well, it was Hasbro who did the new-mold Sky-Byte toy back in Thrilling 30 (of course, that was a different Hasbro team, but still).-Kanrabat- wrote:Why should Hasbro care? And, ironically, it was the Hasbro RID toyline that was way more of a smash hit success compared to how smaller and short lived Takara's Car Robots line was in Japan, with the Hasbro line even getting a successor line in the 2003 Universe line.

And haven't we seen some of the molds in the Selects Manga? Yellow Convoy comes from RiD 2001, no?

Of all the Combiner Wars characters (that classically were combiners), Motormaster was perhaps the most off-model compared to his G1 look.
He's supposed to be the opposite of Optimus. The cab is his feet or maybe just some shoes while the trailer is the actual robot.

Exactly. All of the other torso bots from G1, like Silverbolt, Hot Spot, Onslaught, Scattershot, and Hun-Gurr, don't really stick out as being drastic departures from their cartoon models or original G1 toys, not quite like Motormaster, who was saddled with having to be a co-tooling with Optimus Prime in Combiner Wars. If no other classic torso bot is redone after Motormaster for a long while, I won't be disappointed. The only combiner TEAMS that might need a complete redo in the more near future might be Devastator and/or Predaking, for collectors who want versions of those two that scale better with the rest of the modern "Generations" styled combiners.

While I'm not exactly chomping at the bit for new Car Robots/RiD Toys, I wouldn't mind. I go against the grain in that I enjoy that single 39 episode series FAR MORE than anything in the UT. Also YES- I remember a fan dub of CR before RiD aired in the U.S. as well. I don't think they did all the episodes, as I only ever saw the first one, I could be wrong though.
Lastly, wasn't there a 3P Motormaster that was more accurate to the original, and was compatible with CW?

Yes, but that was just a repurpose of the existing Sam's Club toy from 2003.aronjlove wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Well, it was Hasbro who did the new-mold Sky-Byte toy back in Thrilling 30 (of course, that was a different Hasbro team, but still).-Kanrabat- wrote:Why should Hasbro care? I'm amazed that the Select one come as a bot in a cheaper box. Normally it's in vehicle in a snug little compartment. Oh well, I'll be reusing that box to store random custom parts.
Siege Sideswipe is an excellent mold. One of the better of the Siege line. The paint is where the Select shine. Hem have so much colors everywhere! The Netflix one is more plain and is obviously in heavy battle damage deco. I much prefer the "brand new" look of the Select version, but I still quite like the Netflix "after a long and hard mission" look. Plus the Select come with an extra gun for some reason and having extra stuff is always a good thing.
The vehicle is nicer on the Select version, especially with his "Lamborghini" logos. The Netflix battle worn is not too bad either but instead of straight scratches on the windshield, I would have made is "cracked" all over instead.
TlDr; Select is better than the Netflix, but BOTH are VERY worth owning and they look absolutely fantastic together. Not shown in the pictures, I added the regular Siege Sideswipe to complete the "trio" with his extra gun and jetpack from the Centurion set and it's perfect.

11 days, but who's counting . Anyway, it finally arrived about an hour ago, and my son couldn't wait to unbox it as I slave away here working (and posting on breaks)... Just from what little I've handled it, I am impressed. definitely more stable this time around, the accessories are great, but I do have a couple of nitpicks. I hope to post some pics later.
Oddly enough it appears nobody besides PvP has posted a video review I can find (I mean there are more video reviews of the oversize KO than Selects... ) I'm fairly certain Selects Volcanicus was shipped/available in many other place before Pulse. I also understand it may not be the most newsworthy thing that people would want since it is mostly a toy that was released 3 years ago, however... PvP didn't have a combined mode comparison, (said he "misplaced" the feet and hands for the PotP version...)which is what I really wanted to see. Well I guess if I really want something, I have to do it myself.
*edit* Pics below. No action shots or dynamic poses, I Just wanted to give general thoughts at the moment.
For all intents and purposes, YES Selects IS UW Volcanicus. It comes with better paint apps, some amazing addiitonal accessories, and feels overall to be made out of more sturdy material than it's PotP counterpart. Still, if you are more a fan of the original Toy colors, then stick with PotP. I definitely enjoy the Selects version more. Was it worth an extra $200? NO. This is the version that TT should have offered instead of PotP initially in their market, but oh well.
Like most UW vs CW I only felt the need to own one (UW and CW Computron being an exception so much so that they could rightfully be 2 different characters). I was almost certain that I'd be selling off my PotP version of Volcanicus upon getting this new one, but I'm a at a crossroads right now. It has no real place in my collection. Not different enough to be a different character, yet still not quite the same as Selects... So I'm just going to put it aside for a while and give it some more thought.

It will be interesting. So far the deluxes have been the only ones that have had the increase, aside from the SG stuff, which has other retooling and comics involved. For this we would basically have a Voyager plus battlemaster, so retail would be about $36, so $39.99 would make sense, $45 would be pushing it.

$39.99 seems to make the most sense. as you stated 30 for the voyager, 6 for the BM, plus a couple of extra blast effects. I know the SG had a price jump but those have more retooling, extra accessories, and a comic book. Artfire is just a repaint that comes with everything Kingdom Inferno does, plus a BM, and 2 extra Blast Effects.
I have a feeling this will drop on Pulse today however (checking at 9am my time, in about 12 minutes). usually Selects drop on their own, whereas mainline items, and other exclusives are usually revealed in the FFF.

For those who aren't aware, Artfire is a character who originated in the Japanese G1 continuity. His toy was released in 1987 as repaint of Inferno in the Headmasters toyline. This will be his first toy to be released outside of Japan, though a release date isn't mentioned or confirmed yet. Might we find out this coming Friday, at Hasbro's Fan First Friday event focusing on Transformers? Let us know what you think of Artfire, and whether or not you'll be picking him up when he's released.

Luckily I did partner Rico up with Firebolt anyway.
Also, is it my imagination, or is there a rumour that Stepper and Artfire switched names? Artfire DOES have steps, and Stepper DOES have a fire decal on him...

I personally think it would be neat if they recolored SS86 Jazz as Stepper (use the actual Takara Name), and release him with his Targetmaster. This way we get the proper name finally, and it differentiates it from Ricochet, the First Selects release which was a repaint of PotP Jazz.
