While not the first update this classic character has received, this one looks to be the most faithful to the toy and the animation model from the G1 cartoon.

Warpath is probably not as good as I would have liked him to be, but not unacceptable. He's definitely shorter than Moist.

I'm happy with it size wise and it will probably look good in tank mode paired with Omega Supremes base mode.
If Hasbro do a MP of this guy I'm sure it will more than rival third partys.
No shield or parts forming, not sure if it could have benefited from it but it looks fairly good as is.

I like it. The size is pretty much spot on, I wouldn't have been happy if he was the same size as Cliffjumper, but I know there's others that didn't want him to be the size of a normal deluxe so it's a fine compromise. Engineering-wise he has a nice sense of complexity compared to Cheetor (who didn't need to be that complex to begin with).

Honestly I think you could get more mileage out of this Warpath than Megatron. Mean green is the obvious choice... Okay so I dunno his name but the ehobby dimension explorer guy would even fit the Kingdom theme.

Cheetor, Blackarachnia, and Warpath all look great, first off, I'm buying all of them. Ark would be cool, but I have yet to buy a Titan figure and I don't intend to start now.
In terms of a battle-damaged Netflix Cheetor, there is an advantage here over the repaints of the G1 guys in that there were episodes of BW where they actually had battle damage. If they do anything resembling the systems damage from Dark Voyage, that would I think be best case scenario.
Decepticon Stryker wrote:On another note, have there been any rumors of a Tarantulas figure? If there is one, it'd have to be either a new mold or very extensive retool of Blackarachnia.
Nothing on Tarantulas in the leak of the entire mainline, so he'll have to be an exclusive of some sort.

Having gone and fact-checked the shield leaks:
Leaker 1 (OG Kingdom leaker): Shield exists, those unhappy about Cliffjumper won't like it
Leaker 2 (Credible from Siege/ER): Shield exists, more akin to Trailbreaker's in that it isn't a giant piece of his altmode, around buckler size, pegs into underside of tank to help hold it together, TonTon is missing the piece entirely or is going to make an entire second video about it because he missed it in this one like the Blackarachnia mask.

There's also the leaked Slammer, which is currently theorized to be a retool of this Warpath, and a Voyager Warpath would have been too big anyway (unless this was a figure of WfC/FoC Warpath out of nowhere).

Yeah they really goofed on his size. To me this Warpath is clearly a deluxe!
So some thoughts on the repaint of this mold?

Blackarachnia. I'm digging this design. For a deluxe toy I think it looks good.
The Arc - I need to see what it does. It would be great if it transformered into an Omega Supreme-esk robot like in animated. If it's just a playset, I'm not sure I'll buy.
I was thinking we'd get BlackZarak as the eacrthrise Titan since they gave us the repaint of his sidekick spear. Although I guess that leaves us open for a selects version of him.

As a figure in-of-itself for sure if we only go by looks alone. (since Kingdom Warpath isn't out we can't really judge his playability value yet)
But as an accurate Warpath? Nah that mold isn't good at all since it's way too big, turns into an ugly tank that looks little like Warpath, the head sculpt is really weirdly shaped by being a tad too angular and ends up looking less like Warpath, he also has shoulder missiles which old Warpath didn't have.
It's a good figure it just doesn't properly update Warpath, it modernizes him but to the point where Generations Warpath is just a Bayverse figure in disguise heck he even has one of movie Brawl's shoulder missiles.
I'm glad we have Kingdom Warpath for a true update to the original design, now people have two different Warpaths for whatever collection they have instead of trying to shoe-horn one into a collection the figure doesn't fit in.

Yeah, I have all the Minibots in legends size that were released so it's very hard to convince myself to either double dip or swap out. Maybe if they all get released in the next couple of lines, I get them all at once. It would be weird to have some of them as legends and some as deluxes.Burn wrote:I like the look of Warpath but ... He wasn't really that small on the show, which is what he's based on. I would've liked it if he was Hoist sized, but this is good enough.
As far as the repaints, I mean, there's G2 Warpath. That's definitely in play with the other Selects G2s.

The forearm kibble is actually accurate to the G1 cartoon model.
I do wonder if this isn't a finalized sample, though. Seems like Warpath needs some red on the white abdomen with an Autobot symbol on it. That would complete the G1 cartoon look perfectly. Similarly, I wonder if we're not missing a few paint apps on the leaked Rattrap, Cheetor, and Blackarachnia figures. They seem a bit sparse in that department, compared to the extensive paint jobs some other figures in Siege and Earthrise have received in the past two years.
For anyone scratching their heads about the size of Kingdom Warpath, he was depicted very inconsistently in the cartoon. Sometimes he was about as tall as the regular Autobot cars like Prowl. Other times, he was only as tall as the Minibots like Tailgate and Swerve. (He was never as tall as Moist Hoist, though.) No one is right and no one is wrong either. Powerglide, another Season 2/1985 Minibot had similar scaling issues on the show. Heck, sometimes he's barely taller than his human girlfriend!
Speaking of Powerglide, now that we have a Deluxe Class Warpath, we need Powerglide too! PotP Beachcomber and TR Seaspray are fine as-is, but I wouldn't say no to a squatter, bulkier Deluxe Class Cosmos.

I've always thought of him as more of a potential Roadbuster retool with tank treads in the rear and wheels in the front.
At the same time I thought this would be a perfect alt mode for him and it would have really fit well with Siege or Earthrise.
Also, everyone is forgetting the obvious repaint for Warpath: Netflix, that counts, too.

By accurate it was there, by not accurate it normally looked like thin girders and they should be angled like on the innerside of kingdoms warpath. The episode with the jousting he was as tall as hoist. I probably cant find them again but in some book? Magazine? Leaflet? art warpaths the same size of the other minibots (including cliff) yet bumblebee is half their size.
With scale in media being so out of whack I think the Kingdom warpath compliments legends sized bee or the older spy team minibots. He's less out of place than ER Cliffjumper or netflix bee but scale for wfc has been screwy from the start anyways. They all look good and passable together so it has kept the wfc line consistent in that.
For me I really have no need for them to redo the other previously done minibots and charge deluxe prices for them - kingdoms opened up the possibility of them being redone or rereleased as core class. All the legends sized minibots were pretty good with only bee/roadburns limbs being a bit iffy. Power glide didn't even suffer from his gun/chest armor mode gimmicks which is unheard of for the most part when they try to squeeze a lot into a figure.
We might see bee in core class but if they were going to use it for minibots deluxe is an odd choice for warpath.

Yep, the tank treads are drawn way smaller on the forearms and feet of Warpath in the Sunbow animation model, but they cheated all the time on robot mode proportions in the original show. Lots of other characters suffer similar issues in plastic toy form, but it's just generally accepted. Take a look at Siege Sideswipe, or Earthrise Cliffjumper and Sunstreaker, or even Netflix Bumblebee. All of their chests are made from actual parts of their alt modes, being either the front hood of the car or the roof of the passenger compartment. In the cartoon, these parts are drawn way smaller in robot mode. It's size/mass shifting magic. You can't do that in toy form without faux parts and a Masterpiece scale and price point. If we accept these "oversized" vehicle kibble parts on other figures, why can't Warpath get a pass? Personally, while I accept the need for faux parts at times to get a robot or alternate mode to "look right," I appreciate when it's not needed, even if it means some proportions are a little less "screen accurate."
As for the episode you mentioned with jousting, I'm assuming you're referring to "A Decepticon Raider in King Arthur's Court." Believe it or not, that episode wasn't produced by the usual studios, Toei or AKOM, but an as yet unidentified animation studio. It's got several errors/differences in animation compared to the bulk of Season 2. For instance, Hoist has a different character model, Warpath's mouth vents don't light up when he talks, and his tank barrel length changes from shot to shot. So, I don't think this episode is the best to hang your hat on when it comes to making scale arguments.
Posted by AcademyofDrX on September 7th, 2020 @ 6:54am CDT
If faux parts everywhere is what you want, then there's always the Masterpiece line. Bumblebee v2 is an abomination and the last thing I would want to see in Generations.
I can't believe we're still talking about scale either. Some of the "Legends" figures like Universe Warpath are closer to Legion size, while the TR and PotP Legends are practically a size class larger. Having bigger and smaller deluxes seems like a better solution to me, even if it is pricier on balance.
Posted by Sabrblade on September 7th, 2020 @ 9:11am CDT
That's because, prior to DOTM, the Legion class was previously known as the Legends class, as it was originally the "Legends of Cybertron" class back when it first debuted in the TF: Cybertron line.AcademyofDrX wrote:I can't believe we're still talking about scale either. The name was shortened to just "Legends" from Classics onward, up until DOTM absorbed that size class into its subline called Cyberverse, in which the Legends class was renamed "Legion class" and a slightly larger size called "Commander class" (not to be confused with the modern one of the same name that now includes Jetfire and Sky Lynx) was introduced. The Cyberverse Legion and Cyberverse Commander classes were then carried over into TF: Prime, but then discontinued afterward, with only Legion class continuing into later lines without the Cyberverse sublabel.
When the Generations line entered its Thrilling 30 phase, yet another size class roughly akin to the Cyberverse Commander class was introduced and named "Legends class". Since the original Legends class had since been renamed Legion class, this new Legends class was a size larger and completely separate from its namesake, bringing us to where we are now with the current name scheme.

Anything to keep an argument going. The movie episode, with "Moist" had him share time with all the blowhard autobots, Warpath amongst them. In that episode, he wasn't shown to be any smaller than any of the other Autobots.
In fact, in all the episodes he appears in, only Five Faces of Darkness has him at mini-bot size definitively, but he's always sort of been a 'tall minibot.' I think the Kingdom compromise works well enough.

actually i think the reviewer is missing a piece, as if you look in front of the tank you can see a opening to where a part can be, presumable part of the shiedl, and the rest of the shield chills underneath

Blackarachnia looks really, really good. I'd argue it's even better than the MP. Bot mode looks great (though the deco isn't quite as good as the MP), and it's really cool that they made her claws 5mm compatible. Her spider mode is leaps and bounds better than the MP's. It actually looks like a spider this time (even with blatant arms underneath), compared to the MP's robot-squashed-into-the-rough-shape-of-a-spider. Definitely looking forward to her.
Warpath looks solid. His color scheme is nice and he's got some interesting leg origami. The lack of any accessories is unfortunate, especially for a smaller-than-average deluxe. Looks nice, but I'm probably going to pass.
