This to me sums up all the source of where I suspect this toy hasn't met expectations. Because of the design choice to include the 'toy face', all of that volume behind the windscreen, which logically is where you would store the actual head is used for something else.
That held sculpt is magnificent, though.

Although I suppose there is some irony in a company called Voodoo NOT using black magic lol. Again, 3rd party companies should not even be contenders when it comes to producing the "definitive" look of any particular character. Has/Tak have done brilliant jobs with previous MP releases, but I think it's fair to say that this one has divided the fan community more than any previous release. So much so, that we'll probably get an updated version at some point in the future. At least, I hope so... Because I sure wont be buying this mess in it's current form.
Eh, the Voodoo Robots versions do the torsos right, but the legs (and those window feet!) are completely wrong for the TV likeness Takara Tomy was going for (and many of us prefer) and the arms look no better at all still leaving chunks of stuff on the back of the forearms. It really comes down to preference and I find more than enough faults with all of the third party versions that I'm satisfied with the official version.

You may be right... It's likely my own neurosis that's the factor here. I'm sure most of us have a different vision of what constitutes a "perfect" Ironhide sculpt. My main point of contention is the torso and waist. With that in mind, my own preference for the torso/waist of the Voodoo design may have led me to overlook some of the other potential shortcomings you've mentioned. I mean, the torso is the most glaringly obvious difference there & it's mainly that (and the diaper) that I have a problem with. While yes, it is largely personal preference, I still can't help but feel as though Has/Tak could have made a better job of it rather than simply relying on us collectors to buy the figure just because it's the official version & it's the best they can be bothered with.

It's because of the way his shoulders sit back. If they were forward just a little more in line with his head and hips his "gut" wouldn't seem so big.

I think it looks supersexy imo.

This is a two way street.

This.
We've had plenty of users who have registered actual issues with the design of the mold, not least of whom are Sabrblade and Seibertron. And as pointed out earlier, it seems a good portion of the figure was given up to a throwback easter egg and was designed around it; And honestly, he never looked right to me in the first place, which is strange as ratchet actually pulls the mold off quite well, and I can only place the blame on the design of the diaper

These last in hand pictures have looked a lot better. Glad to see the chest/neck area doesn't have to look as odd as it did in the first pictures released. I'm still firmly seated on the fence.

One more thing where would the side skirts and wheels on his butt go since in the cartoon his Transformation defied the laws of physics with all his vehicle mode bits just disappearing into nothing. What do you people want the designers to do, use black Magic to copy a design that in Robot mode had zero vehicle bits on show to work with and still transform into a van. I doubt even Hasui could of engineered that and still make it look good. This figure is probably the best anyone could do with the design they had to work with and all we can do is be perfectionists who nit-pick every detail.
Sir, you obviously haven't seen Voodoo Robots version. The proportions are amazing and it doesn't have the hip kibble.

It also isn't shooting for the screen accuracy elsewhere.

This is it, I'm assuming?
I'm fine with people liking the mp, but lets not kid ourselves, mp ironhide isn't very screen accurate. Sure voodoo's has windows on his feet (but nothing else wrong as near as I can tell), but mp ironhide has that atrocious, over-sized, and cumbersome diaper, obvious hip panels, butt wheels, and those weird hollow/sloping sides, plus, I'm pretty sure his chest panel and face have incorrect proportions too
Posted by Doctor McGrath on January 26th, 2016 @ 2:26pm CST
I believe they both have issues. I was simply pointing out to Mykltron that while the proportions may be more appealing to him, I don't think Voodoo's is any more screen accurate than the official incarnation.

Well I'm not getting any of them, but I'm fascinated by this issue. I want to know why ratchet looks so much better than ironhide, but I think voodoo's looks more screen accurate, maybe its' diaper is too small though But overall, I think it looks better than the mp

Yeah, if that's what it comes down to, I can get behind that argument.

I think it revolves around the crotch. That and Ratchet's uniform color scheme helps too I believe. Voodoo's is cool but has its problems. Find a picture from the side or back.

Most of these 3rd Party vs HasTak releases, or even 3rd Party to 3rd Party releases are splitting hairs (one looks more accurate here, the other there). This time, MP Ironhide (and MP Ratchet) hit the right spots in looks and cost. For some reason I've been swapping between bot and alt mode a lot lately with my figures, so maybe that's the extra nudge I need here too.Hellscream9999 wrote:Yeah, if that's what it comes down to, I can get behind that argument.itscramtastic wrote:I like the VooDoo Robots versions, but I don't like the price in comparison to MP Ironhide/Ratchet. His belly also angled inward much more on the cartoon model while the MP has much less inward-angling gut, which is also much wider than his upper torso windshield, giving him a much fatter look than the more broad-chested fit-looking cartoon model.

Just everything from the waist down, similar forearm issues as MP Ironhide, and this (using their Ratchet for clarity):
MP Ironhide might have butt wheels and windows on the back of his arms, but this is just a disaster. I really don't see how this figure is supposed to be an improvement.
