there are no fembots in the IDW universe. Arcee was an experiment by jiaxus.
BTW, any one else bothered by the spare tire dangeling off springarm?

I realise the inherent problems, but most are so awful…
Backfire (kinda iffy), Wreck-Gar (limited remold options), TFA Elite Guard Prowl (needs a different head though) and the forthcoming TFP Arcee are the immediate exceptions that come to mind. I never really liked Galaxy Force Ransack and while I'm very fond of BM Thrust he only looks good in robot mode if you use the unicycle TV show version which means he can't stand up without his missile "crutches".

Think of it as a Waspinator butt. But yeah, it would probably look better folded up, though I wonder how it's even attached. What actually bugs me (because I'm nitpicky design-wise) it that Optimus' shoulders in robot mode are impossible in vehicle mode considering the markings and shape even with arm and stack/cannon rotations, the blunt corners (or rectangular markings) are in the wrong corners, Also can't figure out where headlight/fender parts (that would be at the sides of the waist if not completely transformed) go in robot mode.

Actually, Elita-One/Ariel appears in this frame of Megatron Origin #3 at Bumper and Fastback's funeral. This is probably just a cameo though, but she's still there nonetheless, so I'm not sure if it would be considered relevant or not. Make of it what you will... (see attached image)
Anyway, pretty cool sketches, I like what IDW has done with the character designs.

I think that's artistic license (similar to Fat Albert and the Cosby kids appearing in Kingdom Come) as that's clearly supposed to be Elita-1, Optimus/Orion, with Alpha Trion… though there are definitely continuity/design errors in IDW-universe such as bad-ass War Within looking Orion Pax on pre-Civil War Cybertron then a less imposing-looking (but still nicely designed) Optimus Prime in the early days of the Civil War…

the arms are simple. fold the shoulders back like G1 optimus, then rotate the smokestacks down. as for the fender/headlights, all i can think of is somekind of back kibble and a rotating waist

Yeah, agreed on back kibble, probably alongside the foldup cockpit bit and with the arms that's simple and obviously the intention but the markings just don't match, or I guess actually it's the height x width proportions between the two modes that don't match…. That's my real beef (as much as anyone can have a beef about a minor cosmetic detail on a conceptual drawing of a giant robot that becomes an alien semi-cab). Like I said nitpicky… or indeed --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8c_4UZdPJs

I'm sure this just a way of making the bot-mode without hanging a tire straight out into space, but I sincerely hope this gets revised. Having the tire split and the pieces rotate out 90 degrees could end up as pseudo tuxedo tails.

Gross!
So what was your fourth thought?

Um, it's Nova Prime. The wings are definitely part of the trailer and yeah, the legs are very reminiscent of Energon Rodimus.

Thank you. I'm glad I wasn't the only who noticed that. that whole pre war Cybertron "Orion Pax being built like Optimus before the War while in Blurr Spotlight Optimus looked more like 'Orion Pax'" had me scratching my head....NemesisMonkeySupreme wrote: though there are definitely continuity/design errors in IDW-universe such as bad-ass War Within looking Orion Pax on pre-Civil War Cybertron then a less imposing-looking (but still nicely designed) Optimus Prime in the early days of the Civil War…
p.s. sorry about the Nova Prime thing, I mean to put that in the thread that had Nomvius Prime sketch

Not necessarily an error. It makes sense that he would upgrade himself from the WW-inspired design once the war broke out.
