Oh, yeah, I love doing that. RID sawback or Rescue Bots Servo are good examples of that for me. Love having some dogs for the bots.

I though Underbite was roughly the same size as the others before he bulks up on munchies.

If this bee-team-into-tfp-characters keeps up, who wants to bet we'll see Bumblebee and Sideswipe into Wheeljack and Smokescreen?

If we are lucky they might make another wave of RID Legions before they swap over to making Movie-bot ones (which I think they should as they missed out on Legions for AOE - so they have a lot to catch up on).
I don't think there is a need really to make many more Legions for RID - heck they might not make ANY more as the Combiner Force toys are very small so they kind of fill in for the idea, and unless they go new mould crazy and do things like Jazz (and I'm sure regular viewers of the show can make many many better suggestions than I can).
I would kind of like an RID Legion giftset of the relevant characters in blue and another set of them in sandy deco; as they have been a bit haphazard about that.
I also think that after the Movie stuff is out of the way for a little bit - in the gaps between Movies they should tone down the Movie legions and release some classics characters in that scale as a pallet cleanser between Movies - Examples : Sideswipe/Red Alert, Tracks/Road Rage, Swerve/Gears, Windcharger/Tailgate.
Then they can go back to the movie ones when the Next Movie comes out - then have a 1 or 2 wave break again more classics or Universe stuff (Armada Legions would be wonderful to have) The Movie stuff again - and then another gap and then the Bumblebee Movie.
Also I can see another Transformers Videogame (of some consequence) happening before 2019 so if they do that then some game related legions would be great.
The reason I think Legions would be nice is they work super well with the Titan-class toys we will be getting, but RID doesn't really play into that.

... but this news post is literally about two new legion figures in combiner force
Posted by RAR on November 3rd, 2016 @ 8:53pm CDT
I'm talking about the "actual" Combining toys in the combiner force line - and commenting that they are really small and as such there might not be a huge need to have legions and them at the same time.
Since these Legions ship "Before" the combining ones - I don't think they are quite comparable in all respects though as the other ones are sold in 2 packs and are a bit bigger.
-----
I don't want them to stop making RID legions - I was just speculating that they'd be damn fools if they don't make Movie Legions for The Last Knight considering they didn't both last time - and RID is going to be pretty much over & done with by the time the movie comes out.
-------
But it's not that many weeks until Feb and The Toyfare so our questions & answers may be addressed then.
Assuming Hasbro remember to bring half the things they are making this time - as they have had a bad habit of missing things out at some shows.
----
But yes I'd love to see a couple more waves of RID legions if they can get them out in time - and then change over to Movie legions.
I just have the horrible thought that they might go one-step crazy again for the Movies and try to sell us the same sort of thing all over again - I'd rather they dropped Onestep for a year concentrated on Legion class for all of 2017 then played catch up with the few new Characters for the follow up Movies.
As otherwise One-step & Legion can trip over each other a bit at retail.
A offering like DOTM's two sizes of Cyberverse line would be ideal for me.
I need a break from one steps they have made to many that are to similar.
I really don't see the need to make all the returning characters from AOE all over again as onesteps the only way a Movie One step line would make sense to me is if it's a "Celebration" line for all the Movie as it's the 10th Anniversary - then that makes perfect sense as they can do One-step Constructicons/Ironhide/Jazz/Dino/Wheeljack/Ratchet/Soundwave/Brawl/Bonecrusher/Blackout/Frenzy etc...
Just making Crosshairs/bumblebee/Hound again is pointless and boring.

That would make sense. I'd be very happy with Hasbro bringing their new, superior cost-cutting measure from TR over to RiD.
I just assumed Retool at first since they looked to have a similar body shape. A major one, but still looked retool-ish to me.

Aside from Combiners, Targetmasters are... probably my favourite gimmick in the series? Just, like, any little guy that turns into a weapon. It takes everything good about the Headmaster idea except does it in a way that doesn't compromise the bigger figure's aesthetic; and if you lose the Targetmaster? The bigger figure doesn't lose anything essential. Plus it's a lot easier to justify in-universe.
And while I do like them having articulation and more function outside of turning into a weapon, these dudes continue the idea wonderfully. Their weapon modes all look amazing and I'm really wanting them all; especially Dragonus. Gimme Dragonus right now I'm shoulder-mounting him on someone.

A comparison between Starscream with Windblade so you can judge if one is a remold of the other or if they simply share basic transformation.
A comparison Springload to the Takara version of his one step counterpart.
A picture of the instructions and a detailed account of the transformation.
A size comparison with other legions from this line in both modes.
Enjoy!
Starscream from Wave 1 of the Combiner Force subline imprint of RiD legions
ROBOT MODE
This new legion scaled Starscream does a good job at replicating the shape and detail of his show model.
The large wings and broad shoulders give Starscream a regal and intimidating appearance. Although, he does look a bit skinny
Moulded in silver and light blue plastics. Starscream feature black paint on his helmet, red on the rims of his chest intakes, pelvis, and along his wings, blue paint on the tops of his shoulders, fuselage and his feet and orange plastic on the cockpit
And of course a sticker for the RiD app on his left wing. (Note: combiner force toys aren't unlocked when scanned into the app, instead they give a ticket to use with Cryostase to unlock a random character in the game - I got hammer)
The paint layout and amount of paint apps on such a small figure really help make Starscream look nice and worth the price to purchase.
Poseability
In terms of poseability, we are dealing with a legion class here, so there's not much to speak of. Although Starscream fares better than some others in the line.
Having ball jointed hips, hinged knees hat can bend just short of 90 degrees, multiple hinges in the shoulders (although, most are only really useful for transformation) and similar to Windblade, he has odd ball joints at his elbows. In fact. The lower arms on Starscream are the exact same as windblade!
Speaking of windblade. The two share very similar transformation schemes. And you'd be forgiven for thinking they were just remoulded of each other
However, besides the forearms, they don't appear to share any parts from what I can see.
TRANSFORMATION
To transform Starscream, it's very simple. As is normal for this size class.
1: peg the legs together
2: fold the fuselage/Nosecone on the back up over the head and peg it in place
3: fold the wings down
4: fold the shoulder pads down on the hinges along with the elbow pieces to straighten them down along the sides of the torso
5: peg the hands onto the pegs on the undersides of the wings.
VEHICLE MODE
From above, Starscream's vehicle mode looks quite good. From underneath however, well... It looks like he's reaching down to hold his wings in place.
Another oddity on the underside is that like a few other figures recently, he has a landing gear moulded into the Nosecone but no wheels anywhere else. Instead he rests on his kneecaps and toes
For the size class, I can't complain much about this vehicle mode, yeah it could have been better. But it's fine for what it is.
The paint apps work well to make the vehicle mode look nice
With the red wings, orange cockpit and blue nose cone to break up all the grey a bit.
All in all legion Starscream is just that. A legion Starscream. It's nothing amazing. But it has a few neat things that make it worth a look
FINAL THOUGHTS
Overall I'd rate it a B-
Losing a couple of marks for the awkward elbows, lack of rear wheels and borrowing Windblade's forearms.
If you're interested, its probably worth picking up, it is a cheap figure after all.
Definitely worth grabbing for a completionist
But I wouldn't say it's worth running out to get ASAP
Springload from Wave 1 of the Combiner Force subline imprint of RiD legions
PRAISE DORADUS!!
The paranoid Amphiboid, Springload has made a handful of appearances in the cartoon over the first two seasons. and his fate was left unclear at the end of season 2 since he was oddly absent from the season finale. a treasure hunter, obsessed with finding the fabled city of Doradus. Springload has a ... loose grip on reality at the best of times. and will attack anyone who gets in the way of his search for the fabled city.
up until now, Springload has only had 1 toy released in the RiD toyline, a One-Step changer from right before the "minicon weaponizer" subline imprint. now it's finally time for a more complex figure.
ROBOT MODE
Springload's body is rather, untraditional, in that he pretty much looks like a mechanical frog. which the designers managed to replicate here remarkably well. whereas the One-Step figure was much flatter and wider, particularly in the head. Legion Springload looks MUCH more faithful to his show mode. even having tiny fake wheels molded onto his shoulder kibble to replicate the placement of his wheels on the show model.
Springload's front legs are long, very long. whilst his back legs are much shorter and are molded in a more frog like posture. like the fake wheels on his shoulders, springload also has fake wheels to act as his back feet to mimic the show model as well. the best part of Springload's Mould is definitely his face, it's shaped very accurately to his show model, with large eyes, angy eyebrows, and lots of pointy teeth in his mouth.
The only downside to Springload's robot mode is that he is VERY hollow underneath. but for a Legion class figure, its understandable and not as big an issue.
another slight downside is that even by legion standards, Springload is tiny. he is really really tiny.
in terms of his Colour scheme, Springload is very eye catching. molded mostly in a bright lime green colour with some black plastic on the wheels at the back of his body.
to compliment this very froggy colour, Springload has some cyan paint on his front legs, and the roof of his vehicle mode, which sits just behind his head in robot mod. his front windscreen, side windows and fake wheels, are all painted black, and his eyebrows are painted dark blue which works GREAT for the eyebrows. especially with the red paint of his eyes. Springload's lower back/ vehicle mode hood is painted a darker shade of green, and finally his teeth on both his top and bottom jaw are painted white.
all in all this is a great colour scheme. although when just taking a quick look at him, the blues and greens all sort of blend into each other.
Springload also of course features a sticker for the RiD app on his back/ car roof (Note: Combiner Force toys aren't unlocked when scanned into the app, instead they give a ticket to use with Cryostase to unlock a random character in the game - I got Anvil)
POSEABILITY
For Poseablility Springload is pretty impressive for a legion. having hinges at his back hips to rotate his back legs forward and backward for jumping poses. Springload's front legs are even more Poseable, being able to rotate at the sides of his torso/vehicle mode and having hinges at the elbows. you can also rotate the side panels of his robot mode with the arms attacked to them out as well. but this is more for transformation. and finally, Springloads lower jaw can open and close for Doradus shouting action!! (sadly no tongue in his mouth, although there is a slight notch moulded into his lower jaw, so perhaps a shapeways tongue may come someday.
TRANSFORMATION
Springload's transformation is simple, but effective.
1: fold his lower jaw back and into the hollow cavity under his body
2: fold the side panels the arms are attacked to around and cover (most of) Springload's face and form the back of his vehicle mode
3: fold the front robot legs up into the underside of the vehicle mode
4: Bring the back legs down slightly
5: grabbing the hips, rotate them out and around so the legs are now on the inside and the real wheels are now revealed and on the outside.
6: fold the back legs up and into the underside of the body.
VEHICLE MODE
Springload's vehicle mode is a triumph, unlike his previous One-Step release, which changed his vehicle mode into some sort of muscle car. this new Legion class Springload manages to give him a Pickup Truck alt-mode closer to his show model.
there are however a few issues with the vehicle mode.
first and formost. Springload's robot mode face is visible in the back up his vehicle mode, in the truck bed. although really, springload being paranoid enough that he needs to be constantly looking behind him while driving sounds like something he would do.
another slight issue is the black hingest under his side windows look a little out of place, similar to the Hasbro version of Warrior Thunderhoof.
and another issue is that the front grill of the vehicle mode is only painted on the very top of it. the rest being unpainted black plastic.
Despite these issues its a charming little vehicle mode that still looks more accurate than the one-step.
He also rolls quite well
FINAL THOUGHTS
Legion Springload is easily the better of the two new moulds released in this wave. and only some of that is my personal bias (Springload is one of my favourite decepticons in RiD2015) he may be really really small. but hes a great little legion figure.
Overal I'd rate him an A-
so close to being the perfect legion Springload and dethroning Fixit as the best legion in this toyline, if it weren't for a few minor issues with his vehicle mode.
Despite that I'd say he is Definitely worth picking up once he hits mass retail. as long as you think you are worthy~

But Hasui states in the interview that both were made at the same time:
2 development and at the same time
So the molds were made at the same time too. Its not like they made one mold and then designed another toy based on that mold and made the changes.
Doesnt a retool mean that one has to be based off the other? If you cant tell which is the retool of which then technically none are retools. At least that how I see it.
Anyways, I was looking at the older legions and I forgot how nicely they had painted Megatronus.
And I will update the article of weaponizers with a suggestion from Kurona.

What about when it's a rare case of two figures that are unquestionably the same mold with different tooling from one another, but in which case both figures came out at the same time (like with G1 Prowl and G1 Bluestreak, or G1 Inferno and G1 Grapple)?william-james88 wrote:Doesnt a retool mean that one has to be based off the other? Spanning all size classes, characters like Blurr, Bludgeon, Cyclonus and, most importantly, Soundwave will be joining the cast sometime in the future! The toys also have some interesting new gimmicks, such as Activator Combiner Soundwave, who comes with a Laserbeak who turns into a small weapon, with "Deploying Battle Cannons". This calls back to the similar Minicon Deployers that are currently included in this line. While this all looks majorly badass, I'm not sure exactly how I feel about it. RiD 2015 used to mostly be it's own thing with the recent Starscream harkening back to the past so much being a big surprise, but what made it so great is that it was unique. Now it feels like the toyline's starting to overflow with G1 influence when before it was packed with originality and new characters. Don't get me wrong, I still prefer these G1 characters to what RiD has put out and I'm excited for most of these figures - especially that Soundwave holy shit - but... I dunno. It's starting to feel like RiD's uniqueness is starting to fade and mesh in with everything else.

Sigma Magnus wrote:The one article said Hasbro is making designs inspired by G1...that's not all that new, and Titans Return is a much better example of that...
I was groaning at the article the whole way through. Acting as if this is the first time there's been full-on G1 influence... meanwhile, there is literally a direct remake of the G1 Soundwave toy in a Titans Return Leader box, original alt-mode (or at least a close approximation of it), cassette partners and all.
"The warrior class features some of the largest figures in the RiD line" oh come on
