More images of Henkei Hot Rodimus have appeared on Amazon Japan. As previously reported, Hot Rodimus will have a gold chrome spoiler and paint scheme similar to his G1 counterpart. He will be released at the end of May.
You can check out the original listing here
Amazon has images of other figures as well, including pictures of Convoy BT-22 with red arms and solid blue legs, which is slightly different from the KISS Players and Alternator’s version. It is unclear if this is the final color. Convoy will be released in June.
Comparison pictures from Seibertron.com:
Pictures of Movie Battle Mode Bumblebee M-22, which is similar to Stealth Mode Bumblebee except with a different paint scheme. The mold utilizes the Concept Camero, but the figure has it's battlemask drawn forward. This figure will be released in May.

Once again Takara puts out a superior color scheme that I would love to have but that I am too damn cheap to pay for!!
I'll keep my $9.99 Classics Rodimus.

Far less gaudy and a much better modern representation...

Yea, we had some hiccups; Japanese Grimlock is overkill, Bumblebee is boring (w/ a RANDOM chroming choice), but...
... Astrotrain is in his anime colors, Hot Rod has a better flame deco, Prime's colors are taken more seriously, etc. Yes, we are spending major money, but we get to do things like combine parts from our Grimlocks (which I did) to make an AMAZING exclusive figure, have a "custom" "civilian" Starscream (US release), and get MUCH better faction leaders!

...if by "best" you mean "most outdated."
I don't want to start a war here, but I still stand behind my earlier statement:
It's 2008... chrome isn't impressive anymore!*
...but I will say that Rod' is one of the better-looing Henkei repaints. He and Astrotrain would be at the top of my list.
*soon to be my new campaign slogan. Vote JRX '08!!!

I do need a new ALT Prime though, mine was killed very ironicly, so I'm glad he's getting a revisit.

Why isn't chrome impressive anymore? I think it still is if done properly.

I highly disagree with this statement. I think one thing I like so much about Henkei is the return of chrome paint. It’s something I feel most modern Transformers are missing, plus it just looks so good!
CHROME PAINT FOREVER !!!

Very true! I'm obviously a huge fan of RID/CR, which made some excellent use of chrome (admitting the stuff would flake off if even you looked at it the wrong way).
I just feel Takara has over-used the chrome thing reccently... well, maybe not over-used, but mis-used.
With the exception of Henkei Astrotrain and Rodimus (big maybe on BB and Meg's) I don't exactly agree with where and how the chrome is placed on the other Henkeis.*
Looking at Convoy and Grimlock makes me think, "why here, but not there?" Why the front bumber and grill, but not the tire rims? Why the claws and neck, but not the tail, etc...
I feel they should be chromed well, or not chromed at all... that's it in a nutshell
*EDIT: uh oh... editing statements? Could this mean my campaign is in trouble?!

I don't plan on getting BT Convoy, but it looks pretty good in robot mode...won't it look really funny in alt mode though, being half red & half blue?
Posted by Sowndwave76 on May 7th, 2008 @ 1:25pm CDT
It's not bad, but it's not as impressive as the other Henkei's...
So now, do I spend $30 on this, or $30 on a reg. version on ebay??
Posted by Prime Evil on May 7th, 2008 @ 1:38pm CDT
Oh, and I got my Henkei Astrotain in the mail last night. He's sooo bootiful...makes me want to pick up Henkei Starscream and Megs.

I agree some of the figures do have too much chrome or are oddly placed.

That orange block under the chest flames looks good and really ties it to the two Rod G1 toys.
I'm not a big enough Hot Rod fan to it the though, my Hasbro one fits the bill.

Auto Bot wrote:Speaking of Cliffjumper, i wonder if Henkei will give him a new head mold.
Let me explain why that won't happen.
All of the parts for a transformer are produced on a single sprue. One big mold is made to accomodate all the parts for the toy.
To create a new head, means making huge alterations to the entire mold.
Little mold changes aren't the simple thing we like to make them out as. If they were, we would see updates all the time when a character gets a new deco.

i don't understand. why do they have to make major changes just for a new head?

Counterpunch is correct - even though it does seem difficult to comprehend that making an additional mold of just the new head would be a significant cost.

so when does henkei rodimus come out, the post said may but i heard june also. anyone know for sure?
Posted by Stormrider on May 13th, 2008 @ 2:27am CDT
It is possible that Hotrod got rescheduled for June. But the only other release for May seems to be Battle Mask Bumblebee (Movie toy), which makes May a quiet month.
