Interesting how they went for the middleground between the flat gray of the MV1 model and toys and the more tan-ish color (and tatts) of the ROTF model/toys. Either way, he looks amazing! :CON:

Figured it will be close to MPM Megs price wise.
As for the size, maybe it would be the same size as the old ROTF leader or slightly bigger. If it's the same size as the old leader, the comparison between the two will be VERY interesting.

Can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm not impressed--and I so far really enjoy the MPM line. For a second, I thought it was an old leader class promo--so many similarities. As with all jet modes, the alt mode underside is what makes or breaks a fig for me. Though the leader class looked like a pregnant YF-22, at least it was relatively streamlined. The quick view of the underside of the MPM just showed a mess of kibble a-la movie Jetfire (original or SS). Going to save my money on this one.

He looks pretty solid, but unlike MPM Megatron who was an enormous improvement over existing figures, I'm not super compelled to get this guy since I have the studio series version.

I do think because of that this guy will get some unfair bashing. But overall he looks like a pretty solid effort to me. I think the jet underbelly can only get so good and personally I don't really care.

The vehicle mode is fairly kibbly on the underside, but the robot mode looks so perfect it doesn't bother me that much. That robot mode articulation is insane, particularly with the torso sides and the wings! They included all the weapons, finally got all the proportions right, it's incredible. I just hope the QC is ok, Megatron and Jazz hopefully show that they've recovered from Ironhide.

The robot mode is super awesome. It looks waaaaaaaay more accurate than the leader class one. Just as quick examples,it's the first movie Starscream toy with an accurate back ever, and the first one since the 2007 line to have an accurate chest. The jet mode, however, looks like it will be quite bad, with the whole lower body just stuck there hoping nobody will notice.

They still can't clean up the underside on a masterpiece? They managed to do it on the ROTF voyager class figure. It's like they just don't care anymore. Sad when official toy manufacturers can barely keep pace with knockoff manufacturers.

The ROTF toy had obvious hands sticking out of the jet mode. Plus that bot look like complete garbage.

The MPM (and the leader) may have compromised underbelly, but they don't stick out too much and the bots are pure perfection.

Last time they went for a perfect jet in the Masterpiece line was for MP-03 Starscream and his bot mode was heavily sacrificed in doing so.

MPM-10 has obvious everything sticking out of the jet mode.

If you like this MPM nonsense, hey, good for you. If I want a halfassed toy, I will stick with the Black Mamba at a third of the price.

How many people look at the jet toys from underneath? Even if you display in alt mode. You'll be looking at above. No one is going to be displaying this by balancing the jet on his rear end.

I do this display often but obviously, the underside face the wall.

Also, I can forgive a jetformer to be a total mess under. As long that it's not sticking out too much from the side and nothing is visible above.

Those who want perfect jets better stick with bots that have the vehicle mode as top priority like the classic Gobots from the 1980's.

I was being extreme when I said that Krana  I didn't realise anyone actually did it! No offence :) but yeah expecting a perfectly clean jet mode is unnecessary. The robot is the main attraction. The vehicle here looks fine as is, and clearly you don't need to display with the hand weapons attached, thats just a place to store them for vehicle mode if you so wish.

I like how MPM-1 and MPM-10 are both Starscreams, comparable to MP-1 and MP-10 both being Optimus Primes (aka Convoys).

That robot mode looks great, but the jet mode deco is a fail with those blue spots on there. I love the HFTD leader, and if I get this figure, it'll strictly be in robot mode, with that one in jet mode.

I was going to ask what you meant by blue on the wings as the pictures I'd seen didn't have any blue till I saw that one of them did. How curious that the others didn't.

Yeah some have them gray, some blue. So which is it? The gray bothers me as well, but not nearly as much.

I'm thinking that as well, because blue just wouldn't make sense. In none of the movies Starscream was in was he any type of blue. Or white, either. The more I look at these shots, the more I'm convinced I should just stick with the HFTD figure.

Well look, with Optimus Prime, it turned out that the ROTF Leader was the better toy than the MPM. For this, I think both will be as good in their own way. I might still preffer the HFTD for how elegant the undercarriage is handled. it was there, but it was smoothe enough.

As for the gray vs blue discussion, it's a problem with the lighting. Grey (just like black) is always a mixture of a darker tint of either blue, green or purple, because there is no such thing as actual black in pigmentation. So in this case, the grey comes from a blue pigment and can reflect differently given the lightsource and accompanying manipulation of the photo.

I dunno.

I want it, but I thought there would be more sheen or shine to it if I'm being clear enough. I think I just expected more of a shiny metal look in anticipation of the reveal. I kept thinking of all of the sunshine that Michael Bay incorporated in those films and how the light was constantly playing off the Bots and Cons.

No offence at all.
It's a valid way to display the jets. They usually stand up pretty well! However, the Movie jet cannot stand up like this because of the way it's made. It dosent have a "tripod".

It really comes down to stability/QC issues for me, because at least on appearances this blows the HFTD leader out of the water for me. They finally got the proportions right - as much as I like the leader and SS figures, they haven't really been able to get the torso proportions right. It's also huge that the robot mode wings are formed from the primary wings instead of the rear fins! It looks so much better.

$150 is actually better than I was expecting, but still a lot more than I've ever spent on a Transformer before. We'll have to see, I'm excited to see more pictures/videos in the meantime!

Looks good, but, I'm not yet sure $150 good, I love movie starscream and my biggest regret with even his best figures thus far was that he was never as bendy as his art always portrayed him, this seems to fix that
a bit (the multi-jointed neck works miracles) and for me is a big plus, guess we'll see come sept, least I have some time to mull it over :-?

It was exactly me at first.
Then way back then, on Boxing Day sale in December 2010 or 2011, HFTD Leader Starscream was on sale at Toys R Us for 45$CAN instead of the normal 70$CAN. I HATED that Starscream. But at that price, I was curious.

Then when fiddling with him, my hate turned into love and I finally saw how brilliant the design was.

Dunno if the old HFTD Leader will drop in price because the MPM is coming out, but if you can find it for a reasonable price, you'll have a taste of what MPM-10 will bring. After all, HFTD Leader Starscream is MPM-01.

One thing for sure. The vehicle mode will NEVER be in scale. Except maybe with Megatron because Megatron is some random thing. In order for Starscream in Jet mode to be in scale with the land vehicles, we should have Star Trek magic tech to mass-shift this toy.

Oh well, as long that the robot match, that's all that matter, really.

I was in that exact same mindset way back in 2010/2011.
Then I tasted the HFTD Leader...

Maybe you could think outside your box for once and try something you never dared before. Maybe not this 150$ MP, obviously, but maybe just the standard Studio Series figure. Movie Starscream is ugly, yes, but he's a pleasure to handle. Especially the Studio Series version or the HFTD Leader. Give it a chance and you'll see.

And if you just can't accept him as "Starscream", just name him Larry and problem solved! ;)^

It’s just a matter of what we grew up with and what we enjoy. When I think “Starscream”, I think of this design before the blue and red F-15, but I know that most people are probably more familiar with the G1-style appearance.

That’s a huge part of what I like so much about the Bay movies - They went all out in creating awesome, super detailed reimaginings of characters that - while retaining some hints of the originals - really let the designers get creative and do something new (and IMO way cooler).

This won't make me any younger but I find this absolutely amazing that for a whole generation, the "true" Transformers dear from childhood and full of nostalgia are the Bayverse ones!

And honestly, I'm thankful because thanks to the Bayverse, Transformers entered a second renaissance like it did when Beast Wars came along. In both instances, Transformers were revived, fuels by the Geewun Purists tears. Ironically, it's thanks to the Bayverse that we got those recent lines of "Budget G1 Masterpieces" that was the last Generations trilogy and the current one.

His alt mode is looking a bit off color-wise and it's definitely got some undercarriage kibble, but man, that robot mode looks incredible. This pose gives me flashbacks to some of the RotF promo art, and it's awesome.

Very easily, that's how Starscream looked like in the movies they watched.

My kids are 2 and 4 and they are able to understand that Starscream looks a particular way in the movies and a different way in the cartoons. Same with Bumblebee, Ironhide, Ratchet and everyone else except for Megatron

I feel like I'm in an interesting spot because, I really do not like most of the movie designs in the actual movies (I feel like they're overdesigned), but put them in toy form, even Masterpiece toy form, and (by necessity of making the design into a toy) they're simplified juuuuuuuuuuust enough that they become much more interesting to look at, the "broad strokes" of the design start to stand out more against the smaller more granular details. This MPM Starscream is way more enjoyable for me to look at than how the design is in the actual movie itself. Still not what would come to mind immediately as a "good Starscream", but I kind of think of/appreciate the movie designs in their own little bubble.

I think it has a lot to do with the movement and presentation in the movies, too. Starscream barely got screentime in the films. I'd say that one slow-mo shot of him landing in the first movie was the clearest look at him in 3 films. He was always hunched over, filmed in shaky cam, covered in sparks/explosions, bad lighting, etc. But I think most of the designs look pretty good if the films just give you a chance to look at them. That tattoo thing just made a busy design even busier and didn't help.

I'm hoping this goes up for preorder soon. I want to lock him in. I'm worried that's only available through Target. Wish all e-tailers could carry this guy.

In what sense? :???:

Same parts, same detail, same transformation lines/breaks. I don't believe this is 100% a new mold at all.
