Here is what Seibertron had to share about his finding:
Found 3 step mega Optimus prime at target in rosemont, IL just outside of chicago. Price is 31.79
This means the toy should be coming to your area soon if not already be there.

Can this also fit smaller cars inside?

Nope but it does interact with the minicons.

"Interact" in this case meaning "sit them down on his knees". No unlocked features or anything.

But, but... it's easier for kids to use it as a door-stop that way

He shares engineering (he's not a retool!) with the regular 3-Step Optimus Prime, but even he's bending the definition. All you do is swing the chest back and around to the feet. Nothing else!

You've got to explain this to me, how is he not a retooled upscale? Was he really a new mold from scratch? What difference makes this more individual?

When literally every part is sculpted differently in some way, you're not in re-tool territory anymore. Shared transformation concept, but no enlarged "shared" parts from what I can tell.william-james88 wrote:You've got to explain this to me, how is he not a retooled upscale? So its the equivalent of Combiner Wars streetwise if he was upscaled to a voyager and then compared with Dead End?

Think of it more like G2 Smokescreen/BWII Starscream/RID Smokejumper/RM Smokesniper, Energon Starscream, and Generations FOC Starscream. All three molds were engineered to transform the same way, but are each their own individual mold rather than the same mold.william-james88 wrote:ScottyP wrote:When literally every part is sculpted differently in some way, you're not in re-tool territory anymore. This is Beast Hunters "Upscales" all over again. Basically they share transformation and detailing, but the "upscale" disqualifies it from the main definition of "retool". We have:
- Retools: some modified parts
- Reshells: changes the outward appearance while keeping transformation and some minor parts intact
- Down-/Upscale: changes the size of the basic design, but not the toy.
The last one involves changing designs on paper, no actual existing parts are modified.

Yes, I definitely think of this more like the upscales. The other examples listed are more coincidences from separate start up points. This was planned at the same time for the same line. There is definite cost cutting involved unlike the G2 smokescreen and Energon Starscream.

Here is what Chuck had to say about the figure:
Fracture is a nice shade of Decepticon purple, and that's really the only nice thing I can say about this toy. Keeping in mind that it's intended for children I'm concerned about how long it would take the average child to break a figure made from such flimsy plastic, with a play feature that has a tendency to jam. Airazor looks good but is a static brick making its clear parts somewhat useless. Collectors move along, nothing to see here.
Enjoy!

For me Sideswipe looks the best, then I remember how bad that mold is. I like how Prime looks but not enough to justify a 3rd version of that mold.

Takara seems to just be doing straight releases of the Hasbro versions, USA Edition style, rather than making their own releases.MartianSpyGirl1996 wrote:william-james88 wrote:MartianSpyGirl1996 wrote:Is there not going to be a Strongarm upgrade?

Though, in all honesty, I kinda question if a mere two episodes really deserve their own subline imprint.

Very true. Paint wise though they're allright for repaints

Rejoice, Drift is better than Fracture! Unfortunately the limitations that Fracture had in terms of articulation are still present on Drift but the whole Deployer gimmick works much more smoothly. Jetstorm looks cool but not cool enough to cover the brick nature of the mold. I can see the bipedal Autobot Deployers getting stale rather quickly. If you want to experience the gimmick then by all means buy Drift but the Deployers aren't a necessary addition to any collection.

Curse you Hasblow...Why even bother with this crap when there are so many characters and new molds that could and should have been developed for CW. CW is the best TF line to come out since the introduction of Generations...before that Classics held the title. I wouldn't give this piece of slag to a kid if I got it for free.

But Hasbro already said that this line is not intended for an older audience. It's only for kids (aside from the warrior class) and this toy plays along those lines so I dont see a problem. If you want to have RID toys targetted towards you, then come and join us in their discussion in the TAV thread

I understand that. I was just saying that Hasbro loves to stray from what works rather than what they think works. I have no interest in this line...nor do I think children will be enthused with it much more than for 5 seconds. I'm glad they are not making a bunch of stuff I want...feeding this hobby is costly enough. Again I was just making a generalization of Hasbro business practice as a whole.

I see, and I in turn understand you view. But I dont know if we are truly able to evaluate whether what Hasbro does works or not. We can say it sucks for us (and it does, as Takara surely tries to remedy the situation on their end). Hasbro has a whole department related to market research, they seem to know their stuff. And that flip and Change grimlock sold very well (thats the only bit I can attest to). The one steps also sold very well on the seibertron store, so I dont think any of us is well placed to say what the market at large feels.
And I dont find any "shelfwarming" to be valid arguments either (not that you brought it up, but in case anyone does). Firstly because the actual deluxes from the film were as seemingly stagnant and secondly because we cant be sure if those toys that we keep seeing on the shelves are those same toys or simply being constantly restocked (I did the test once by buying every single Skrapnel I could find and they were restocked every week).
And those 3 step changers are working super well in my area, the bumlblebee and optimus especially.
All I meant to say is that while sharing our personal opinions is fine, I think none of us are in the know enough to tell Hasbro that what they are doing is bad for their business. Especially when they invest a bunch into market research. They actually invite a bunch of lucky kids to play with prototypes and then ask for their feedback. My 10 year old cousin was really fond of one step Hound and of constuct bots (two things I didnt care for).

So, what you say is that Hasbro/Takara should NEVER try anything new ever. By that logic, the Transformers franchise would have died in 1986 before the Movie would have been made. Once all the Diaclone molds and their main repaint would have overstayed their welcome on the store shelves, Transformers would have been over.
In another timeline, you wouldnt even been collecting transformers. You would collect something else and you would STILL manage to complain about it.

I can positively report that the Guardians do in fact have 3 points of articulation, including: shoulder and waist rotation. The Heroes line include Optimus Prime (not pictured), Bumblebee, Sideswipe and Steeljaw.
