While it may be odd that we are getting another exclusive Tarantulas in such a short time, they do indicate that this will be based on his Transmetal deco. As you recall, that body did have a motorcycle mode, however, he will not be using the deluxe Groove mold but instead the Rook mold as seen below.
Also, this means that the remaining three members of the combiner are probably the original members of the Tripedicus combiner: General Ram Horn, Sea Clamp, and Cicadacon.
Botcon wrote:10/09/2015 - We are thrilled to announce that Alec Willows, voice of the villainous and venomnous TARANTULAS from the Beast Wars cartoon series, will be our guest At BotCon 2016. Along with David Kaye, Alec will be available for autographs and panels as we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Beast Wars.
Speaking of the robotic spider, we are also pleased to reveal that our second BotCon 2016 Predacon themed Combiner Wars boxed set character is in fact TARANTULAS, inspired by his season 2 "Transmetal" deco and featuring an ALL-NEW head sculpt. Along with Ravage, Tarantulas will merge with the other 3 Predacons in the box set to form PREDACUS!

Transmetal Tarantulas was... well he was a bit like Bruce Lee. He wasn't bulky, but the guy was trim and toned (look at those abs!). And then he had a ginormous linebacker's shoulder pads thrown on, giving him an extremely wide chest and shoulders.
From the day Rook was revealed, that's kind of how I saw him too. His upper legs aren't all that bulky, and with the bomb disposal claw defining his job, I can interpret him as a moderate-sized guy inside of massively oversized protective shielding. And with this being Tarantulas working with the Predacon Secret before/instead of on ancient Earth getting turned into a spider, I can catch some interesting story vibes of him putting on some riot gear or a bomb disposal suit for a particularly tricky assignment.
As for the size of the head, thanks for pointing that out. But there has been a 3D printing made and correctly fitted to the body, even if the digital color/paint mock-up might appear to show something different.

Cool, that's good to know about the head
I don't mind the mold choice, I can see it; but I must say, as the 'stalwart tank' ramhorn or seaclamp would have probably worked better, but I wonder if brawl and/or swindle are going to make an appearance; I can see ramhorn from brawl with a 'techno' barrel that looks like his horn

So, it's not going to be that much of a surprise as to who the other 3 members are. The question is, WHO will be the Voyager in the middle and what mold will he use? Maybe Cicadacon? He has Tripredacus' head after all.
Hmm...
Actually, IF Cicadacon is the torso/voyager, maybe he'll make use of the Silverbolt mold? It would make more sense than the Optimus/Motormaster or Hot Spot/Onslaught molds. That leaves Sea Clamp and Ram Horn though.
I guess I could see Ram Horn using the First Aid or Offroad mold? It has the kind of bulk and shape that resembles his beetle mode. Plus, he'd work well as the Left Arm of the new Combiner and even resemble the original Tripredacus' Left Arm.
As for Sea Clamp... maybe the Dragstrip mold? That one hasn't gotten much use besides Mirage, and it's vaguely Crawfish shaped.

Yeah but we arent talking about Hasbro here, we are talking about the Club. The same people that released the Breakdown old at botcon last year along with some microns. They dont go by the same rules of Hasbro.

My answer was only in regards to the inquiry of how the UW Groove mold might be more expensive than the CW Deluxes, not in regards to the idea that its expense is why the mold wasn't used.william-james88 wrote:Yeah but we arent talking about Hasbro here, we are talking about the Club. Then I read he was part of a combiner team. Ummmm... Okay, I guess. Isn't FunPub making a combiner (with too many limbs) for their subscription service? Whatever though. I could see Quickstrike in the Dragstrip mold; he is pretty fast after all. Scorpinoc could be the Rook Mold; beefy chest and those plugs on his fists could be reiminisnt of Scorp having no actual hands. I'm sure Terrorsaur will be one of the jets. Maybe Inferno will even be the Onslaught mold!
Then I saw this new post....
REALLY?!?!
You literally just gave us a Tarantulas just over a month ago. Is this a joke? "Yo dawg, we heard you like Tarantulas. So we're gonna give you some Tarantulas to go with that Tarantulas."
Oh, I'm sorry. This doesn't count because this is his "transmetal" version. WHAT?!
Honestly, I hadn't budgeted money for 2016 Botcon. But then I saw Ravage. So I now I was 100% going. I can make this happen and save enough money in time. But then I saw this. YOU HAD MY MONEY, FUNPUB! Why did you have to go and make an easy decision into a tough one?

Beast Wars Anniversary! Another character with a vehicle alt mode. And right after they gave us Tarantualas as the motorcycle. Looks like they've got the right idea and will be doing the remaining characters. Blackarachnia will probably be the Chromia mold. Silverbolt could be Beast Hunters Dreadwing with those back frilly things as a nice homage to Silverbolt's feathers. And Beast Hunters Ratchet has the PERFECT head for a Dinobot II. I can't wait to see more!

Was it not evident from the faction symbol on Ravage ("Predacon") that this was going to be a set of characters part of or affiliated with the Predacons? Honestly, Predacus sounds just as likely to be the Predacon version of Bruticus.Sabrblade wrote:Was it not evident from the title of this set ("Dawn of the Predacus") that this was going to be a set of characters part of or affiliated with the Tripredacus Council?
Yes, I thought there might be members of the Tri-Predacus council. But considering they are the Tri-Predacus council, I imagined a 3-pack of them. Why would I think that FunPub would give us the exact same character that arrived in my mailbox 44 days ago?

Honestly, if it was to be a Predacon-themed set instead of specifically a Tripredacus-themed set, why include Ravage and have him as the first reveal (since he was a mere a guest star minor character who only appeared in 3 episodes out of 52) instead of any of the more major Predacon characters in the cartoon?Lucky Logician wrote:Honestly, Predacus sounds just as likely to be the Predacon version of Bruticus.
Considering that a large part of their combiner/council name is in the theme's title, it'd make far more sense to have them showcased in the main boxed set.Lucky Logician wrote:Yes, I thought there might be members of the Tri-Predacus council. This one we are in agreement with since I was not expecting Tarantulas but a different Tripredacus Agent to go with Ravage and the main three. Onyx Primal in particular was the one I was hoping for since his getting a new toy next year would be in honor of the character's 20th anniversary. They wouldn't have even had to remold his head since they could have redecoed CW Firefly whose head is a close enough match to Onyx's head.Lucky Logician wrote:Why would I think that FunPub would give us the exact same character that arrived in my mailbox 44 days ago?

I would consider waiting for the rest of the reveals after all, all those figures are getting NEW HEADS plus the Figure could be displayed with the Dawn of futures last boxset and the tfcc 3.0 figure deisplayed with your beast wars uprising figure collection

They said there will be five new heads. Within a standard five CW mold-combiner (1 torso and 4 limbs) there are six heads total due to the combiner itself having a head of its own. So one of those six may not be remolded if the "five new heads" thing is true to its word.Starsaber468 wrote:I would consider waiting for the rest of the reveals after all, all those figures are getting NEW HEADS

The Transmetal scheme is surprising, though I suppose when he reveals his association with the Tripredacus council in the series, he is a Transmetal by then...

Did I miss where they said how many figures will be in the box this year? You know we're going to get a lot more than one Voyager and four deluxe, that's less than what the subscription service is giving us. There should be at least another Voyager or two more limbs as well as a Legends and I'm still not sure that would be comparable to what came in the 2015 set. And besides, when was the last time a set was made of just one faction? 2011, but that was a really small set compared to what we normally get these days. Otherwise there's always at least one member of the opposition represented.
But saying that I could see them using the Fireflight mold for Onyx Primal as you suggested, and then use the Deluxe Groove mold and probably a new head to make Flamewar, though maybe they can get away with just repainting Legends Groove. Wouldn't surprise me if they use the CW Optimus Prime mold and paint him as Hyperlinq, then his combined mode can be Sentinel Maximus, no remolding necessary. If not this year then next.
Still find it strange that Fun Pub is doing two combiners in 2016 and neither one is Nexus Prime.

Five tends to be the standard number per boxed set, so it's not a far-fetched guess. And five is all that's needed for a CW combiner.Emerje wrote:Did I miss where they said how many figures will be in the box this year?
We've gotten five figures in the following year's boxed sets (small accessory figures like Targetmasters, Headmasters, Mini-Cons--barring one case--and Arms Microns count as just that, accessories): 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, and 2015.
Only 2005, 2008, and 2012 officially had more than five separate figures.
Last I counted the Subscription Service will be giving us one Voyager and six Deluxes.Emerje wrote:You know we're going to get a lot more than one Voyager and four deluxe, that's less than what the subscription service is giving us.
Though this year's set had multiple factions, all five of the Cybertron's Most Wanted boxed set toys were bad guys.Emerje wrote:And besides, when was the last time a set was made of just one faction? 2011, but that was a really small set compared to what we normally get these days. I know what the fiction/naming implied, and you can make up new stories all you want to, but this is poorly timed, lazy, and adds no value to the box set for me.

Boxset>>two Voyagers, three Deluxes. (Two combiiners, two limbs for one and one for the other)
Attendee figure>> 1 of the limbs,
At the Show add ons>>> the other limbs you need, and Swwps for Galvatronus.
You can't complete the Botcon combiner unless you go! Mwahaha.
Anyways, i certainly understand anyones complaint about duplicating Tarantulas, but this does not, to me, fit the asthetic of DofFP the way Sub3 Tarantulas did (Yes, I know he's not intended, but most of us who have DofFP are using him) so I am okay with a CW Tarantulas. And mre con affiliated limbs are good.

I was trying to figure out how to word my response so i wouldn't have a legion of the faithful attack me & you have come to my rescue. This pretty much sums up my thoughts exactly. After multiple visits, it's time to start putting out Beast Wars characters that are beasts or just leave them alone. And before it's questioned, I am a Beast Wars kid. Beast Wars was my jam.

Bingo. I understand wanting to do something for Beast Wars' 20th, especially since Hasbro is probably doing extremely little on their own. These feel a bit forced though, at least for right now. Hard to say with only two figures shown but I'm kinda bummin' on the theme now. Maybe if Sea Clamp and pals end up being a thing, using molds that don't feel forced, that will work out to be a cool thing.Doctor McGrath wrote:ZeroWolf wrote:I think with regards to the club, they can only work with what hasbro has done lately.

Just a quick counterpoint since it'll get brought up anyhow - I get why a BW set is being done. If it wasn't, given Hasbro's sort of "meh" attitude on it as a constant, the first thing out of a lot of mouths would be "why didn't the club do Beast Wars stuff, it's the 20th anniversary!" To this I say: let's chill on anniversaries. This is an old brand now, almost every year will be the anniversary of something. It's the ten year anniversary of Cybertron, and there's been absolutely nothing homaging that stuff either. I want some premium deco Cybertron 10th redecos, darn it, but this isn't going to happen because only so much can happen. I'd rather see the brand just move forward and attempt evolution than go into a death spiral from worrying about homaging and celebrating every past achievement.

I don't think you're being quite fair there, you can't just go by the number of figures. Let's take a closer look at the most recent years:
2015 - Legend x1, Deluxe x2, Voyager x2 (new heads x2), an entire custom pretender shell, and accessory bots x5
2014 - Deluxe x3 (new heads x2), Voyager x1, a heavily retooled Ultra, and accessory bots x2
2013 - Deluxe x3 (all new heads), Voyager x2 (new head x1)
2012 - Deluxe x5 (new heads x4), Voyager x1 (new head)
2011 - Deluxe x4 (new heads x2), Voyager x1 (new head)
2010 - Deluxe x3 (new heads x2), Voyager x1, Ultra x1 (new head)
So yeah, just giving us four deluxe and a voyager with five new heads isn't going to cut it. That's only slightly better than we got in 2011 which was the worst in the last six years as far as what you got in the box goes.
Sabrblade wrote:Last I counted the Subscription Service will be giving us one Voyager and six Deluxes.Emerje wrote:You know we're going to get a lot more than one Voyager and four deluxe, that's less than what the subscription service is giving us.

FunPub, you now own the mold of a monkey who can fit a truck inside it. If you want to make money hand over fist, PAINT HIM LIKE OPTIMUS PRIMAL! He would be both a trukk and a munky. And you can just paint the truck in the same colors. Or maybe even paint him a sweet cherry color like the Dodge Ram OP.
You have one job, FunPub. Don't mess this up.

TakaraTomy's Deluxe Groove for the guy? My theory: Too soon. TakaraTomy-only molds have a so-called "lag" for producing Club figures with, due to the fact FunPub simply doesn't know about them until the fans do: Hasbro doesn't, or rather is unable to, provide information about what TakaraTomy may do on their own.

With a little imagination you can actually give CW Prime a gorilla mode simply by making him do a back bend and using the super mode head. It's sort of like the Transmetal transformation so maybe do him up in those colors since Ravage and Tarantulas are both TMs, with some good blue metallic paint.
Also Jelze makes a good point about Groove. It's also probably harder to coordinate the use of new molds than it is with Hasbro.

In the third Beast Wars: Uprising prose story, "Burning Bridges", there is a mnemosurgeon named Vampire who works inside the Mandala, headquarters of the Predacon Secret Police. And he happens to be based on the design on Legends class Groove.
Granted, this year's story could be set in the BW cartoon continuity proper like DoFP was, but that wouldn't stop there being a cartoonverse version of Vampire as well as an Uprisingverse version.

It gets a bit dampened when you consider his name is Vampire. Even by transformers standards that's dumb.

Eh, I'm not entirely sure if that's his actual name since the story made it sound like that's just what he's "called" rather than "named".SW's SilverHammer wrote:Sabrblade wrote:He's a very creepy Pred (I envisioned him sounding like either Prime Starscream or Movieverse Starscream when I read his dialogue).

Heh, Stiletto even made a "for Primus's sake!" remark about the name.
Plus, I sincerely doubt it'd be a Trademarkable name for a Hasbro (via Fun Pub) TF toy to use since it's so generic, so there's a good chance that he'd get a different name if he were to ever get a toy.

Welp from now on he'll always be "Vampire Potter" to me. Thanks whoever named him.

I like the suggestion of Ramhorn from Firstaid, but am quite surprised Sea-Clamp is not going to be an Amphibious Assault vehicle based on Rook. It would have given him clamps...
I suppose the Hotspot/Onslaught/Bludgeon/Demolisher mold would have the better 'profile' though - long altmode body, big shoulders, opening chest.
