Hasbro had the holy grail of the Transformers hobby on display for all to see in their massive Transformers display area this year. G1 Unicron was on display not just in robot mode, but also in planet mode as well which begs the question: "just how many of these things are there?" G1 Unicron was never made and the prototype has only been seen a few times before. Check out G1 Unicron in all of his round glory here.

Was this figure ever released? I never saw it before... If it was never released I'd say that now it's a good time as 25th anniversary "reissue" :) .

Thankful it was not produced. Unlike the Beast Wars Neo Unicron which should have been:

I heard also there are a few made.

My god, it's full of stars.

Anyway, I have seen many pictures of that toy but have never, ever seen a size comparison. Armada Unicron was much bigger than I thought he would be an this guy dwarfs him. Amazing.

I second that, if properly coloured (obviously). Would be great to have a toy I have wanted since 1986. Failing that, a proper G1 style Unicron would suffice.

Hasbro its time to release the beast. You didnt give it to us in the 80s so its time to give it to us. Theres still a universe line (supposedly) and there a more G1 reissues on the horizon so you have no excuse.

Wow, for the first time ever, a display of the unproduced G1 Unicron that actually gives us some idea of the proper scale of it, I am impressed.
Granted by today's standards that thing is an ugly brick, but what a magnificent piece of Transformers history. What's next? Digging up the old Transtech protos?

BEHOLD UNICRON......Devourer of PIE!

For a G1 toy ol' Uni ain't bad, but a little too round. It does tower of Armada Unicron though, and that's pretty sweet.

It looks to be in remarkably good shape for a 23 year old prototype. Its definitely been cared for. Scary thing is, I would so plunk down the cash for a reissue of it. Any molds or such are probably long gone??

If there is a Hasbro Q&A session, they should tell them to pull that sucker out and pull out a Fortress Maximus to show sizes. I too think Hasbro has something up their sleeve. I wouldn't be surprised if those were just made for Botcon and that they might make an announcement of releasing him just for a G1 celebration or something. I would pay $100 for it

No, man..it's NOT released...This is just a prototype they've had for over 20 years...They show it off at conventions every so often but it's never been put into production...

I have to say though, I had NO idea it was that big...I would have LOVED it is as a kid even though it looks stupid (a lot of TFs back then did and we didn't care)...Hell, I'd buy it now just to have...

Reminds me of the first prototype Unicron. Looks just like it. I like the Armada version Unicron robot more. Despite of the indian dot on his forehead. Even if he has a half planet mode. Plus the Armada one has his ring wings like in the original Tf movie.

Takara, it's theirs. This would have been a different release of the toy, coming with a "moon" type canon, which kinda looks like TFArmada Unicron's minicon, which orbits via an electric engine around Unicron in Planet mode.

But one thing strikes me as weird, the one they have displayed must be brand new. As the other one belongs to a collector, and has a slightly different colours, plus this one here looks brand spanking new...... why?

The G1 Seekers weren't bad, neither was Soundwave.

Hell, there were a few G1 figures that didn't look half bad.

This thing looks like a kindergartner designed it.

It may be totally ridiculous, but I'd still buy it (well depending on the price). These high-rez pics show off the details much better than the other pictures of it and in that way it's more impressive than I would have thought.

But I'd rather have BWNeo Unicron. He might be smaller, but he's sculpted better.

I'd pay over $100 for that toy even if it were released as a super premium, adult collectors only excutive, online, whatever the hell else they try to put in my way G1 Unicron. Hell, I'd buy two! Everyone on this board who was old enough at the time would have gladly gone without Christmas, birthdays and cake for a year to have gotten this in 1986.

Common sense says: "Ugly brick, probably heavier then myself"

The rest of me says: "F*cking AWESOME!!! It has that g1 sprit all over it!"

I'll pay 200 euro's (283,16 USD) for one! Really I would.

I really hope they will release this and get a few on ebay. No matter the price they will be sold out in a short amount of time, trust me.

Please don't give Hasbro/TakaraTomy price ideas... I don't want to pay 200 EUR for it... :P How about $50 USD in a 25th anniversary commemorative edition with the Marvel comic in which he appears for the first time? :P Now that would be a guaranteed buy (for $50 USD Hasbro, $50!! :P).

Just getting this thing released to the public would take a miracle!

But getting it released at $50 USD would just flat out be a blessing from above.

Either that or Hasbro would be beyond uber-desperate to get rid of it.

That thing is definitely fresh off the press, there is no way it's that fresh looking being 20 years old. And I don't know if it matters but did anybody else notice the clear rubber bands on the one in robot mode's shoulders, just like one that you RIP out of the new packaging. But I must just say.......I WANT!!!!!! I'd give up my Megatron collection(well maybe my Starscream collection instead) to have that sucker adorning my shelf. =P~

You're right, it has rubber bands as if it has been taken from a new package! Could this mean it's... it's... it's going to be released??? I want it!! I really hope they release it as a commemorative 25th anniversary package, at an affordable price...

Dont know, I havnt got the armada version. The only things I can think of, is paint differences and plastic quality like most usualy arguments from hasbro vs takara wars. the box was a win, the art and the fact he will sit back in there with moving. more funny enough when I got him a few years back MISB, i got him for a bargain price of £31.00, thats less that the american version and hell lot less that the universe one

There are a few paint variations between the two, note that I did not say additions or improvements, just differences.

The Japanese version is perhaps half a shade lighter in color. Which isn't so much a planned thing as it was a production related thing.

There are no quality differences.
