the big deal is that it's "Classics vs Shattered Glass". Two themes in one! A four-way battle of epic proportions!Autobot032 wrote:More Shattered Glass? Is it that big of a deal? I'm seriously asking, not being funny. Am I missing something?

We shouldn't be surprised. They've been keeping SG alive for the past couple of BotCons and the past couple of TFCC exclusives. A bit surprised it's 2/3rd of the box set, and it counts me out seeing as I don't have any part of the '09 set other than Blurr/SS.
But yeah, let's say they did UM instead of SG UM. Dedicated TF collectors who don't partake in BotCon or people who are unable to go to BotCon would be furious - '07-like drama ensues. I do think it`s cool that we`re getting new Classics renditions of obscure characters (Giga, Metalhawk) at BotCon, but the time in which popular characters get Classics renditions at BotCon is few and far between... that's why we have SG.

My guess about Soundwave is it will be the Ratchet mold with the WFC generations head to cut costs. If this figure looks good as Soundwave, I might be a little pissed that it is SG instead of G1.
Posted by necr0blivion on December 25th, 2011 @ 1:33am CST
Will be interesting to see which molds they pick for the other characters, especially Overlord. I'm hoping the choices and color schemes "Wow!" me, but will reserve judgement. My attitudes and collecting habits changed after it was "affordable" to get the original Shattered Glass figures, so getting this set doesn't really complete what I have now.

As stated above, City Commander > repaint G2 Prime as Magnus (by far). As for Soundwave, I have my Device Label Soundwave with the Reprolabels set, that's plenty good enough for my Classics shelf.
This is certainly great news for SG collectors though, since in previous years they only got 1-2 figs each year for the most part, so this will expand their collections nicely.

Overly I am not impressed. I'm thinking about canceling my hotel reservation and just ordering the Iacon package. I guess the Hall of Fame might decide for me...
Any idea when registration for the packages start? February probably?

It does seem as though BotCon is running out of ideas. I could be wrong, I'm not saying I'm right, but as time goes on, they go into ideas I would think aren't all that enticing.
Then, I'm proven wrong with sets like the Animated group from this year. Still, not once have they had anything that made me want to attend, other than the Seekers the one year and I still refused.
I've never cared about "tha 'con". Probably never will. *shrugs* You'd think I would, it's just... well, my give a damn's busted.

(1) SG Evil utra magnus. this will use the RTS G-2 Laser prime deluxe toy.
(2)SG heroic Soundwave, this will use the classics 2.0 deluxe ratchet/ironhide mold
(3)SG Evil tracks, this will use the generations or rts tracks deluxe mold
(4)SG Heroic treadshot, this will use the WFC Megatron deluxe toy or the HFTD bludgeon voyager size mold or the classics 1.0 deluxe sized megatron toy mold.
(5)classics metalhawk, this will use the Generations skyshadow/thunderhawk deluxe toy mold.
(6)classics overlord, this will obviously use a voyager sized toy mold from either,Animated,HFTD or from RTS. It won't be 2 toys merging to form a bigger robot mode. my guesses are as follows: I THINK THE ANIMATED VOYAGER SIZED BLITZWING TOY STANDS THE BEST CHANCE OF GETTING TURNED INTO OVERLORD. Because animated blitzwing is a tripple changer,it has a jet & tank mode.
Personally,IMHO, if hasbro cared or was smart enough they would have created their own masterforce styled toy years ago. using 2 voyagers from the energon autobots voyager size class. energon voyager sized jetfire colored black with a new head would have made a decent black jet half for overlord. the energon voyager sized cliffjumper toy modified with as a tank by replacing parts & adding a tank turrent part, with a new head. then combine the tank & jet to form overlord.

I never really got it myself. The idea seemed neat, but they just never did it in a way that interested me.
It might have been neat if they did megatron in optimus colors, and vice versa. A Black Rodimus, like, seriously what's the big deal? Then they used some armada molds, and that didn't interest me at all.
Like Dinobots and constructicon swap colors, and then cars with the seekers colors and seekers with car colors. This would have been neat to me.

So Ill ether have to ask someone to pre-order the set for me and and then just sell off the SG part, or order the Classics part of the internet and other sources.
Also, I'm starting to laugh right now at all the outcry of the set featuring Shattered Glass, because half of those people will buy the KOs later while complaining about the secondary market price and that they should have been mass market toys.

overlord? My solid guess is animated voyager sized Blitzwing with a new head sculpt. because animated blitzwing has a jet & tank mode.

RhA wrote:Urgh. Metalhawk and Overlord are in danger of being the first Botcon-guys I'm going to het. But seriously, what mold would decently carry Overlord? Metalhwak I can imangine a few, but Overlord?
Shattered Glass:
Evil Ultra Magnus (RTS G2 Optimus)
Evil Tracks (RTS Tracks)
Heroic Soundwave (Universe Ironhide/Ratchet)
Heroic Treadshot (This one stumps me. I had to go to TFU.info to even see what he'd look like. Plus, will they use gold chrome, or potentially disastrous gold plastic?)
Classics:
Overlord (Yeah, this one's making me go all WTF? I can't think of a figure that could accurate represent this guy.)
Metalhawk (Had to go to the Wiki for this one. According to them, he was based on a gunformer. So, my guess is it'll be a redeco/remold of Classics Megatron.)
An odd choice of characters and molds.

Those bag sets though? Those are growin wings, baby.
With six in a box, it leads me to wonder exactly how they plan on sardining this one together. Are they all deluxes? God, the rage over a deluxe Overlord would be epic. Nice to get an extra figure in the non attending this year.
Also, good to hear about the custom class doubling it's size. Even though I'm not going, it's nice to know that some people that actually show an interest in customizing have more of a shot to get in and carve up flash. My bank account is praying real hard it's not another G2 Sideswipe/Thunderdome scenario. I'm talking Pentecostal tongues.
Wondering what the freebie is, and the attendee exclusives too, but what's really got me scratching my head is the dealer exclusive. Has this always been going on? I don't ever recall reading about this in prior Botcons. Maybe they're leftover tuner mudflaps that wouldn't fit in the desert tomb shared with all those ET atari games from the eighties. Look it up. It happened.

Shattered Glass:
•Evil Ultra Magnus: RTS G2 Optimus Prime (damn you hasbro, I want scourge damn it)
•Evil Tracks: Straight Redeco of RTS Tracks
•Heroic Soundwave: Universe Ironhide, as you can see
•Heroic Treadshot: Classics Megatron (based on a pre-transformer gun mode, I guess. http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Treadshot_%28G1%29)
Classics:
•Overlord: Universe Octane (refuse to call him "tankor")
•Metalhawk: I want to say Universe Powerglide, but I think the set is all deluxe's, so I'm stumped

No Treadshot is the gunformer, Metalhawk is a jet.
I hope there aren't too many Classics figures at the Con, I can stumock buying maybe four. I have to buy Runamuck and Runabout after all.

•Evil Ultra Magnus: RTS G2 Optimus Prime
•Evil Tracks: Red repaint of RTS Tracks
•Heroic Soundwave: Universe Ironhide (please prefix the toy)
•Heroic Treadshot: Classics Megatron?
Classics:
•Overlord: No idea
•Metalhawk: Universe Cyclonus http://www.cybertron.ca/boards/showthread.php?t=21272
Potential add ons:

I live in Asia, so i'm probably getting the Iacon pack. It costs around $350 for non-members. Is it any cheaper as a member?
My guess would be this set has 5 deluxes + 1 voyager...
The only voyager being Overloard. For some reason i feel he would be either classics jetfire or cybertron CDT Scattershot. Although both molds have appeared in boxedsets before...

Evil Ultra Magnus: RTS G2 Optimus Prime (damn you hasbro, I want scourge damn it)
Agreed with this one...that mold would've been a good matchup for the SG Prime they released a long while back. RtS G2 Optimus just looks so puny in comparison.
The only one I'm really wanting from this lot is Soundwave sadly enough, and I know that's the one that'll go for insane money on the secondary market. :\

That leaves only Generations, TF 2010/RtS, maybe PCC, Universe 2008, and Classics toy molds to be used for this year (it's too early to use the Prime toy molds, they don't really use much Japanese-only stuff, and they don't use the complex stuff like Alternators or Alternity).
@ME_Counterpunch Oh. Good q. Um. Actually, looks like nothing outside of the last couple years. 1st year NO AEC. Wow. Just realized that.
Every year since 2005 has had AEC. 2012 is the first year NONE. Does this make you happy or sad?
@Richard_Stangl Only thing off limits are licensed vehicles or fantasy vehicles that appeared in the movie.
@DomBlanco No Animated
@Richard_Stangl Well, ma[n]y people confuse anything in yellow packaging as "movie" toys, and they are not.
When asked about things like Terradive and Lugnut, they said:@Richard_Stangl They are main line toys. Many of those are fair game.
When asked about such toys as the Lockdown, Bludgeon, and Mindwipe molds from ROTF, they said:@The_Secretcode Not this year. Came out too late...
@GeneralTekno As I just posted, those are not movie line toys. They are mainline. At the end of the day, they are all "Transformers"

I was a TFCC member for around 3 years. that $415 non-members botcon gift set, also includes a one year membership to the club. so you get the botcon gift set for $415 plus you get a one subscription of 6 magazines plus your entitled to the freebie club toy.

I'm just throwing it out there, but I think Generations Warpath would make a good Treadshot. It's a bit of a departure I know but I think the slim and basic robot mode would work really well. Universe Cyclonus as Metalhawk sounds like a good call. Given the limited range of figures being used for the set I can't think of anything that would satisfy my Overlord desires.
