Seibertron.com member chuckdawg1999 brings us a review of the recently released Takara Tomy Transformers Go! G26 Optimus Exprime. The figure is an all new take on Optimus Prime with three modes: robot, bullet train, and dragon. The figure also has the ability to combine with Kenzan and Gekisomaru. Check out his reviews below.
chuckdawg1999 wrote:A completely new look for the legendary Optimus Prime. Smooth transformations between all three modes with a fun lights and sound gimmick. I can recommend Exprime as a stand alone toy if you don't have the other combiner teams. Be on the look out for part 2 when I bring it all together.
Yes I know this is a long video but there's a lot to getting 3 figures together in two different ways. Sound issues aside I think the combined modes work well but still not as good as it could have been. I will say both combined robots hold together quite well. If you have Kenzan or Gekisomaru I can fully recommend Optimus Exprime, if not Exprime is a solid toy on its own.
Synopsis
CYBERTRON FALLS! The monstrous NECROTITAN ravages the world—but is there anyone left to save it? Meanwhile, in deep space, ULTRA MAGNUS and the crew of the LOST LIGHT struggle to make sense of what they find in the depths of the scarlet sea!
Or just punch it in the face
Story
And here we are, probably the last set-up issue before the big show takes place, as was teased for the next chapter. But before we get to the clash of titans, let's take a look at what this issue does, the new characters introduced, reveals and building up of some old fr--enemies, shall we?
Figures sold separately
Once again, John Barber and James Roberts focus on multiple plotlines at once, from the Lost Light's crew dealing with Metroplex, Ammonites and newcomers Chromia and Nautica, via Pax and Rodimus in the Dead Universe, dealing with Nova and Kup, to the chaos on Cybertron, with Starscream uniting with Prowl, Soundwave and the other 'outcasts'.
Cavalry's here
And then you have the three new additions: Chromia, Nautica and Windblade, who play a fairly big role in the issue, and one that nicely sets up what may happen later (mini-series included). They're nicely characterised, and topically enough, there are echoes of other female trios in the three's dialogue lines.
Nicely done, Roberber
I was a little disappointed in Starscream being shunned once more in favour of other key players, though I suppose ReGeneration One is dealing with his more powerful incarnations. Though what is his actual Chosen role? Megatron is mocked, undermined yet ultimately I can't help but like him on the scene, too - and Bumblebee. Plus we get a better look at Rodimus' hand, and his real thoughts, for once.
Art
We still have the three artists working on different sections. James Raiz masterfully pens the new additions and a magnificent Metroplex; Livio Ramondelli decidedly darkens the mood for Rodimus and Orion, and dastardly Nova Prime; Atilio Rojo expertly blends a beaten Starscream, bombastic Megatron and brilliant Prowl. And Bumblebee.
Rodimus and his fetish, again
And then you have the colours, with Ramondelli taking care of his own sections, with a lighter palette this time round, it seems. And Josh Perez on Rojo and Raiz' interiors. He kills it, again, with two very different approaches on each style, but both equally brilliant.
What does the Ammonite say..?
Tom B. Long's lettering is still pretty excellent too, from the flaming title page to the sound effects. Phil Jimenez and Romulo Fajardo Jr offer a nice cover with this issue's Tailgate toy, Casey Coller and Joana Lafuente tower over cover A - and then there's Alex Milne and Josh Perez' mouthwatering RI cover. Look at it. Just. Look.
Thoughts Spoilerish ahead
This issue may placate the ire of some readers who thought the whole Windblade affair was going to be blown out of proportion in the April series, beginning to reveal why and how she and the other two, Nautica and Chromia show up, and their importance to the story. We don't get to see much, but it's enough to make want to read more!
Eye'm definitely in!
There was humour, there were revelations, there was a lot of actual rooting for Megatron, after all. There were Nautica, Chromia and Windblade, Rodimus, Whirl, Ratchet - all good characterisation. There was the beginning of the Necrotitan and Metroplex fight we saw teased a while back. There is good art, and an amazing cover. It was good.

Synopsis
INVASION! And it's the Autobots doing the invading! RODIMUS PRIME takes action, leading an armada into the heart of JHIAXUS' forces—but is he playing straight into the villain's hands? Plus, FORTRESS MAXIMUS re-enters the fray, but on whose side? Oh, and STARSCREAM's past comes back to haunt him… big time!
BIG time
Story
Three left. Then it's actually over. For realsies. We swear. In the meantime, feast your eyes and minds on this rather action-packed issue of G2 ReGeneration One, penned by your friendly neighbourhood Furminator! It's quite the ride, including some of your favourite 'what the..?' moments and cliffhangers, but let's go with order...
Not G2. Nope
Three major plotlines: Optimus on Earth and Fort Max on Nebulos - conflated. Rodimus and the Autobots versus Jhiaxus in the Hub. Starscream's spidey-sense tingling, with Shockwave still playing HAL. And it's the first two that really take the stage for most of the issue, with some fairly big moves stepping up in the final pages. Literally. Both the big and the stepping.
But no spoilers
Simon Furman actually throws in quite a lot of references to previous work, some more some less subtle, but all still enjoyable. The plot is very action driven in all its branches, while still maintaining a sense of the overall war scenario and multiple Underbase arc. And we get quite a few meta-moments too, which still make me chuckle.
Bitter? Naaah
The final section of the issue is just a massive tease, from Jhiaxus' response, to Fort Max' retreat, to Starscream's actions, to the final final pages. It's all about to go down, and it's going to ignore all whimpers and bangs - the sheeeaaagghs will be innumerable.
Art
Guido Guidi, you magnificent bastard. Ma quant' si' bbello?. Seriously, as much as he has a penchant for faces, the contrast between Jhiaxus' liquid silver troops and the blocky Cybertronians is marvellously executed, and there are some seriously impressive perspective shots of Fort Max and Jhiaxus.
Sleek vs box
But credit where it's due: Stephen Baskerville's inks complement Guidi's pencilwork masterfully, keeping the new school old school, yet still fresh and sleek and regenerated. And to top it all, John-Paul Bove adds another magical multicolour touch, in the skies, in the explosions, in the battles, glows, dots, bashes, action talking and pzazzing. Make that several magical touches.
Sigh.
To round off, Chris Mowry does a pretty nice job with the lettering too, embellishing Furman's sound scripts with nice chunky letters where needed. See pzazz above. The three covers are also brilliant, with Andrew Wildman bang on target on A, Guidi screaming into B and Geoff Senior smacking the incentive.
Thoughts Spoilerish ahead
That was.. quite a ride. Possibly the most hectic issue of the run so far, with space battles and scheming alike. Furman manages to keep it more or less in control, and the clean artwork definitely helps to keep track of it all. A lot is being put on the plate for the final two issues, and I really hope it holds up.
That.. does not sound good
It may not be the ending that old-school fans and readers wanted, but it's building up to be a pretty big one, and I really really hope it does not disappoint. Furman and the artistic team have quite a lot to play out in the coming months. I'm holding on.
