They even make an in-joke about this in the movie. Crosshairs refers to Cogman as a "C-3PO ripoff" or something along those lines, which I thought was pretty funny.

Yeah Cogman is C-3P0 if C-3P0 was a total a-hole. He's my favorite character from TLK.
