I wonder how 'original' this actually is. It doesn't look that far removed from the final result. The main differences are the lack of red and the design of the head. Ratchet's original concept art shows a far different design. Maybe they just managed to settle on the basics of Prime's design fairly early on.

Would it be too cynical of me to say something like, "OMG WOW now I really liek teh new designz after all coz at least they dont look like that crap"?

--EDIT--
Missed foifoi05's post.

NOt having seen much close of the new movie Rathcet design, I really like the rumored concept art of Ratchet. That was cool.

The Prime...basically the same design we've seen with an un-Prime looking head...

Remember, this concept might not even be from 'fairly early on' since art departement will usually produce hundreds of sketches per day and many designs get coloured and brushed up to show to the upper brass to get approval. If anything, this might be one of the last concepts of Prime before they picked something final (usually from bits and pieces of other concepts, as is the case with lots of other films)

Just think of how many OTHER concepts for each robot there must be (some worse than others, like this Prime here). You don't get weird designs like we have now after drawing a couple of sketches. Bizarre crap like this takes alot of practice!

Given that it appears to be a full-on render, I highly doubt this is an early concept at all. That kind of thing takes time and money to produce, while early concepts tend to be much less polished. And that's without saying that this 'concept' is clearly very close to the finalised design in any case.

This is not Optimus Prime. It's too whacked out.

When are we going to see the supposed attempted G1 like designs? I wonder why we are seeing none of those. THis could play into the theory of The Bayman trying to calm the fanbase into saying "look their not THIS bad!"...I would really like to see WHY the G1 like designs failed so miserably...or if they even really did it. Because If I saw that on a design table I would said..."Go 180 degrees away from this and never look back!"

i smell sumthin fishy here. I think this is just a way to make the haters of the final prime design to like it better by showing crappy ones. (im not saying that i dont like movie prime) but all these leaked pre concept appears a conspiracy to me. Conditioning?

I don't know if it is or not, but either way I really don't care about these leaked pictures and still have my own individual opinions for each of the movie TFs designs that will be in the movie.

That is the thing to do imo.

I agree. Everything with this movie should be judged on its own merits, or lack there of depending on your point of view.

A design shouldn't be good or bad because it is good or bad in comparison with something else.

For example, I Dislike the movie Megatron, not because prior Megatrons have been better, but because I dislike the design pure and simple.

I still would like to get my hands on the "art of" book, just to look at some of the really early ideas, and see the evolution. Hopefully it will be out a few months before the movie.

Are they kidding us? This looks like it was designed by a drunk Terminator. I'm glad they're not using this. Bay knows Transformers like Donnie and Marie knew rock and roll.

Okay, I want to quell the rants about the flames on Prime. My friend's uncle owns a trucking company. I showed him the pics of Prime. He instantly noticed that the brand of semi that Prime is is a Kenworth. Furthermore, he goes on to tell me that his uncle just bought that exact same Kenworth from the factory and that is the paint scheme that is on it. Prime's paint scheme is a factory paint scheme direct from Kenworth! So, that's where the flames come from. And personally, I think he looks awesome with it instead of bland plain old red.

Yeah, I've ordered semi's for my company before, and therefore spent quite a few hours going over "catalogs" of them.

I've never seen a semi come out of the factory with a flame paint job.

Yikes! This is... rather an extreme take. I'm glad they changed some things since this so that Prime is closer to his traditional look.

If that's real I'm glad they didn't use it. That guy looks more like Blurr than Optimus.
