Of course it's about the money to Hasbro and paramount, they wouldn't of spent the money to make it otherwise.
The script problems weren't bay's fault, so you can point your finger elsewhere (though he finished RotF script, but with the writer's strike on at the time, he kinda had to, lest the movie be pushed back which I highly doubt paramount would of wanted). Also Spielberg pitched the initial pitch of the TF movie (boy and his first car) so he shares some of your opinion on the movies.
So in your opinion there was only three good movie toys? There was tons, what about Wreckage? Skystalker and Mindwipe, Stockade, Bludgeon even Evasion mode prime from AoE along with the new Dinobots. Other people believe these toys to be fantastic. You can't make statements about things like this as if it was fact, there will be plenty of people wanting to jump on you otherwise.
My main point with my last post is simple hindsight. Transformers as a brand is far bigger since the film series started, there are more fans in the collectors and definitely more fans in the main target audience, kids. So, because of that Hasbro has provided us with fantastic toys and new things.
I...wasn't impressed with Nolans batman movies, yes he took out all of the campy stuff that plagued the last two movies but he grounded it too much. Some of the fun about batman is that he is more or less a human in a world that has gods, aliens, intergalactic policemen and supermen in it. There was no sign of that in Nolans movies, and Bales batman...no thanks. Heath Ledger was good at bringing out parts of the Joker, but Jack Nicholson/Mark Hamil are my favorite movie/animated Jokers. Rambled on a bit too much there but in a way it shows something. If Nolan did Transformers I wouldn't be interested. Thus Paramount and Hasbro wouldn't get my money, remember, they want the TF movies to have mass appeal, not to the fans but to the general public and you know what they say about pleasing everybody...
Okay that was...a bit longer then I thought it would be
All I'm saying is you don't have to like the moviverse but you still owe them some thanks for the brand existing as it is now, besides the films will be rebooted within the next ten years or so:)
