What would you guys consider as the "best" figure from Cybertron? (Aside from Optimus.)

I would definitely want to get that Cybertron prime as well, i have not heard a single bad thing about it, and for many it is a holy grail figure to own.

I also want to get Megatron, the fact that Megatron was a sweet car is something to desire

I wonder if anyone makes flight stands strong enough to support larger Unicron Trilogy figures.

Why are these toy lines called the Unicron Trilogy? Is it official or did the fandom labeled them that? It's not like Unicron wasn't around before. Does he even appear in Cybertron?

Because Unicron is a focal point of all three series.

Yes. Blame Aaron Archer.

Thanks. I wasn't sure, it's been so long since I've seen them. Armada I remember clearly, because I have both Armada and Micron Densetsu on DVD and the stories are close enough for both. But I only ever saw Energon once and never even finished Cybertron, after watching Super-Link and Galaxy Force. And IIRC, Unicron wasn't even in Galaxy Force. Was he even in Super-Link? (Yes, I know that question technically belongs in the comics and cartoons forum.)

Exactly. He's the linking thread of them all. His machinations and Primus' efforts to counter them are the powers behind the plot of Armada, he's a major driving force in Energon, and cosmic backlash from his demise is the main threat in Cybertron.

Burn wrote:

Well, doing a co-produced trilogy of toylines with an accompanying trilogy of anime series was Archer's brainchild from what I've read. And the visual/toy design people seem to have on board with them being a contiguous trilogy (there are elements of continuity in the visual and toy designs, like Cybertron Optimus' gun basically being the Energon Blaster, and Megatron's Armor of Unicron; it may only be referred to as that in the dub but just look at him).
It's not Archer's fault the Japanese writing staff went off the rails in the second and third installments - especially Galaxy Force/Cybertron. That one went off the continuity rails so hard that despite certain cameos it's really awkward to fit it in as a direct sequel despite Archer's insistence that it does (although hey, the ensuing continuity hiccups only serve to make it even more like Masterforce, one of its obvious inspirations); Archer was so insistent on it directly following Energon that the continuity problems were rationalized by saying the Unicron Singularity warped reality.
Cybertron's dub team glosses over it by only referencing an off-screen defeat of Unicron and avoiding overt callbacks to the other two shows.

A personal headcanon I sometimes is that Cybertron is actually in a separate universe from Armada and Energon, and that this offscreen defeat took place at the same time as Unicron's defeat in Energon, resulting in a feedback effect that caused the Unicron Singularity to form on the Cybertron side of things. It just seems a more smooth way to resolve things while still keeping the three shows linked.

Yes, he was in Super Link; that's why this toy exists:
Image
One of the main plot threads is Unicron's resurrection, another is his essence corrupting and at times possessing Megatron/Galvatron.

Regarding Galaxy Force.. while it's writers don't name the evil force whose demise caused the black hole as Unicron like the dub did... the visual design strongly points to that being the original intent. For one thing, there's Megatron's body taking several design cues from Unicron. For another... in certain flashbacks - in particular, Leobreaker's flashback to past battles - there are chunks of space debris that are blatantly bits of Unicron's planet mode.

Not sure why when these could be considered more 'ology' worthy and its use is deff misrepresented to me anyhoos, its not as though everything with predacons in it have to be a trilogy+++++

G1

Beastwars

Armada (armada shows g1 autobots on cybertron that hear the minicons broadcast)

Or a quadrilogy:

G1

Beastwars

Car robots rid (could consider the pyramid that turns megs into galvatron Unicron or something to do with him - after all if Unicron just some horns in baynus why not :p)

Armada (despite fire convoy not supposed to be optimus prime, armada prime first appears with fire convoy nods butt, angled chest windows and head).

I wondered about that as well, and the only explanation I came up with was that the animators were lazy. They knew that Prime's original appearance was going to be very short, so there was no need to come up with an entirely new look, only to lose it a few minutes in. So they took an already established design, 1 that was still fresh in fans' minds, and made minor adjustments to it.

 It's called character model re-use; Armada's toyline didn't offer anywhere near enough bodies to populate planet Cybertron with, so they re-used G1 animation models - usually recolored - for generics. Including generic Mini-Cons. Armada's backstory for the characters and for the war is too different from G1, the characters themselves have notable differences from their G1 counterparts, there's the whole Mini-Cons thing, and the fight against Unicron plays out too differently. It's a different smegging universe.

You're ignoring the earlier posts by myself and Burn that explain that yes, the designation is official, and how they're connected: That is, the shows and toylines were conceived as a trilogy. And, on the toyline side, were developed as a trilogy.

You're also ignoring the fact that ENERGON IS A DIRECT SEQUEL TO ARMADA, WITH CHARACTERS CARRYING OVER AND EVERYTHING!. Cybertron was in turn supposed to be a direct sequel to Energon, although that fell apart on the show writing end and made Aaron Archer need a cosmic instability shoehorn to wedge it back in where it was meant to fit.

blackeyedprime wrote:Or a quadrilogy:

Okay, first off, Unicron isn't "just some horns" in the movieverse. Unicron is the mass Earth formed around (like in Prime) and those are his horns poking through the crust because he's waking up. Not that we'll ever get the resolution on that now.. :-x
Second, that pyramid could be Unicron or connected to him... But whether it is or not, it's not meant to be connected to the plot or toyline of the other shows.

AEC, on the other hand, were conceived as a franchise-rebooting trilogy, had their toylines designed consecutively as a trilogy, and at least in the case of Energon and Armada one show directly follows up on the other, and Cybertron still follows in spirit. That's why they're called a trilogy: it's what they were conceived, branded, and developed as.

blackeyedprime wrote:Armada (despite fire convoy not supposed to be optimus prime, armada prime first appears with fire convoy nods butt, angled chest windows and head).
It's just more design recycling. As Rodimus Prime pointed out.

On this topic, this weekend I secured something rare and valuable thanks to ScottyP on the podcast and ebay Canada. Canada has proven to be a good source of stuff with the current exchange rates. It's rare enough that Scotty, the Unicron Trilogy expert, said that I can now say I am a rare Micron collector.

The purchase also made me buy 2 more figures that will arrive first, and will baffle people when they come, but they were needed to complete a set and will make sense when the thing Scotty helped me get.

Looking forward to showing you guys this, I am super excited to get it

Here, have Snarl sparring with Repugnus:
Image
Repugnus: "You're good! I'm glad I'm not having to block blows from you for real."
Snarl: "You're not exactly a slouch, you know. You fight as well as my world's Repugnus, although it's not quite the same."
Repugnus: "Biased much?"
Snarl: "No, he just has different weapons. A mace - and a head blade, if he uses his Cyber Key."
Repugnus: "Ohhh. Say, think I should introduce my pal Doublecross to your friend Scourge?"

Still to come:
Snarl sparring with Snarl
Snarl sparring with Dinobot (a scene that only needs one voice actor!)
