I know I'm late to the party, but that Grimlock is terrible, even ignoring that it's such a blatant G1 rehash. Jaw doesn't open, no weapons, poorly-designed "tech" detailing (Transmetals did it better, and that was 20 years ago! Hell, it's been done better on other G1-style Grimlocks, like the FoC version.), and tail-dragger stance all really kill any enthusiasm I could have had for it. Unless they seriously screw up PotP Grimlock, this thing is just not going to measure up.

Just to be clear, "evergreen" in marketing terms refers to a product line that reoccurs year after year. Transformers as a whole is considered an "evergreen toy line", as is Power Rangers, HotWheels, and Barbie. Referring to this new line as "evergreen" simply means either Hasbro has long term plans for it as an ongoing line or somebody is using the term wrong.

Anyway, am I the only one that looks at this:

and sees this:

It looks cheap because it's probably meant to be for a generic dollar store line.

First time for everything.

Though, IIRC, the non-transforming 4" Titan Guardian toys from the Prime line first appeared at dollar stores before mass retail, and those were new molds at the time.

The entire Cyber Battalion line are new simplified molds meant to be in a budget line. And we had leaks of a line consisting of 4 figures, all new molds, meant t be a generic dollar store line too. Granted, its a relatively new development, but we have at least 2 lines made of only new molds that fit this criteria.

New Leaked Image of Simplified Generations "Evergreen" Optimus Prime Toy in Vehicle Mode

One more leak before the big show tomorrow. We had previously seen packaging art of upcoming G1-styled toys, like Optimus Prime and Megatron. Well now, we get a shot of the back of the packaging of the Optimus Prime toy where we see him in robot mode. There was some confusion regarding these but sicne the initial leaks, the dots have been connected. This Optimus, alonn with Megatron, Starscream and Bumblebee, are upcoming simplified toys within the Generations line. These have been labeled under the "value chain" segment of Transformers toys and feature what Hasbro calls an "Evegreen" design, designed by Emiliano Santalucia. This Optimus Prime, along with the other three mentioned earlier, will be 4.5" in robot mode and convert in 4-7 steps. This image was found on the TFCN facebook page. We will hopefully see more tomorrow so keep your eyes peeled to this site!

Looks like it has the intricate molded details of a Generations style figure and the weight of a Warrior Class figure (except the outside of the truck looks more solid).

I was really hoping for no huge robot feet off the back of the truck mode this time, but oh well.

Its basically the same as the Generations Legion Optimus Prime mold they have been rereleasing for years now but bigger and with odder proportions.

I think the new one has much better proportions than this.

I'd like to see how he ends up looking in robot mode. He'll definitely be too small to replace Classics Prime, but he could be a fun desk toy or good paint practice. Also I hope he has knees, elbows and head movement.

My suspicion is that this line is called "evergreen" because they're designing 6 molds or something for it that will remain in circulation/available for order for 5-10 years. So they may have upfront design costs but then they're simply not going to phase the line out or necessarily introduce many new figures, since production is cheap and the designs are "timeless".

I think the new one has much better proportions than this.

I am referring to the bot mode which we saw in the leaks that have since been taken down. The bot mode was atrocious.

We had leaks? When were those; I didn't see 'em.

Emerje got it, but otherwise I think the entire meaning of the term "evergreen" has been lost completely by everyone else.

Basically, these were designs done as an update to refresh marketing materials while keeping the same core characters/concept/identity. An "evergreen" Bumblebee design just means a new general Bumblebee design will be used in various content. Will that end up being a toy? Maybe, but not necessarily. More likely, it's a design used to go on marketing material (see: Hascon), miscellaneous merchandise like backpacks, shirts, etc, and even toy packaging for various figures of the character. It'd be well within the realm of possibility to see that art on a Market Six Legends/Legion figure, while at the same time appearing on a re-release of the RiD Warrior in some other generically branded packaging. Maybe it does extend to some other newer line too, we don't know.

My point is that this thread would be much less confusing if this term "evergreen" wasn't getting thrown around as a proper noun. It's not.

if that grimlock is a legion class, I will indeed pee my pants. It's be SO LONG since we've gotten a legit round of generations legion classes.
Heaven help it NOT be a scout, I don't know what it is but I NEVER get scouts.
