I felt like I was having a stroke trying to read that.

Not sure how making Optimus Prime yellow is woke, and genderbent characters aren't exactly anything new if you've been online in the past few decades. Its just a fun alternate take on the character.

It's not "woke," it's just dumb.
Because who's supposed to know at first glance?

Regardless, HASLAB redecos and even reissues would defeat the "core premium principle" of HASLAB. Part of the HASLAB flavor is the limited and exclusive factor.

But with Corporate "greed", never say never.

o.supreme wrote:True. But it is strongly surmised (and I agree). These were holdovers for QC issue replacements, thus why there were so few.

I agree that that would have explained their existence, but not why Hasbro thought they had enough stuff to last a month. Also these weren't sold "as is" which means they'd still have to reserve some figures in case of replacements or parts. And why just Unicron, wouldn't they have had some Star Sabers left, too? No, I think everything points to these being limited production runs since they were also being sold as part of their charity fundraiser.

#1 Signal Lancer fan wrote:In regards to the potential repaints, I don't get why people would be upset about a redo/repaint having its own limited run for (presumably) the same price or higher. Yes, the mold may be slightly less exclusive, but it's a different variation having its own limited run.

Agreed. It's pretty uncommon for obscure repaints to be more popular the original figure (just ask the less than 2000 Legends Grand Maximus figures). A limited run of an already limited mold shouldn't be a big deal. And since the molds are already paid for the minimum order quantity to be made can be much smaller (again, Grand Maximus for reference).

May as well show what we could have as potential repaints:

Black Omega Prime

"Omega Shotimus Prime"? "God Splendid Convoy"?

Defensor

Midnight Defensor

I'd buy all of them, but I'd be least excited by Midnight Defensor.

Instead of two Defensors, give the "Midnight Shield" version's deco to the Ultra Magnus mold.

That could work, and give that Midnight Defensor head color scheme to the combined mode, carry on the tradition of a silver Super head and a gold Omega head.

And I mentioned before but I also wouldn't mind seeing an Ultra Magnus done in Delta Magnus colors, I think the mold would look good in darker gray and swapping some of the blue for red.

I guess I'm in the minority because I never thought the yellow version of this guy looked all that good. In Omega mode she looks like a mishmash with Magnus not changed enough to make use of the yellow properly. In regular mode she just looks like a yellow RID Prime ... and they didn't even bother to swap out the red chrome bits for gold. Just so ... lazy. I get that it's powered by rarity and it's one of the only yellow Primes, and it was retconned into a female Prime, but all on its own I don't think it's special. And it coulda been. Yellow is a strong color and this is a strong design.

Defensor looks really great. The new heard helps a lot. But it's also something whos time has passed. It would have been great for the early Classics era, but as a Haslab? Just for the color scheme? This is really expensive and large and Defensor is the least great of the early era Combiners.

The black version, I think, is the best alternate color scheme. It's really hard to go wrong with black and gold. Or black and anything, if I'm being honest.

But maybe I'm just being really picky.

That's pretty good. Why haven't we gotten this from the original figure?

Likely because Hasbro didn't do niche homages like that back in the Unicron Trilogy years, Takara was simply done with using that mold, and it was too big and expensive for Fun Pub to use.

Hrmmm... I wonder if Hasbro has developed a new way to count international backers more efficiently? Past TF Haslabs had them about once per week. But there was already a spike on Monday. But just within the last hour or so there was another, taking this from around 7500, to past 8200!

Just something I've been thinking about. As you all know, I'm a big fan of combination, even if it gets silly or ridiculous sometimes ;) .

I mean in the past I was actually able to take Energon Optimus Prime and Omega Supreme (a standard Combination) and still be able to find places to plug in Wing Saber, and all of Primes 4 smaller vehicles into one BIG monstrosity  . More recently, and a little less abrasive, I was able to take the Gun Tower from Legacy Motormaster, and make it a jet pack/wings for Menasor. No pieces left out.

However for Omega Prime, a good portion of the below components are NOT part of the combined mode, and as I recall, there really was no practical way to do so with the original.
Image

I do like how they integrated Blue Bolts (aka Magnus' weapons) into the combined mode for this new Haslab version. I just wonder if there is some way to combine the rest? Even it it is just more of a backpack?

As of this typing, we have just reached 8400 backers exactly.

DS needed 17K to pass the 2nd tier, and it ultimately ended with over 27K (10K more than needed).

Omega Prime needs 16K to get the stands, 10K over that would be 26K. If it gets that many units funded (trying to temper my expectations here)... Do you think it would be out of the realm of possibility to include 3 (of the 6) spy changers at Gen Micromasters scale? I know it would be new tooling for 3 toys, (perhaps some existing Micromaster tooling could be used?) but they did 2 for DS which was less expensive. I mean I think its certainly more reasonable than a deluxe, voyager (or bigger) toy, even if form a pre-existing tool.

Just extrapolating into the future, if the Next Haslab was Devil Gigatron/Rid2001 Galvatron, then it could come with the other 3 spy changers to complete the set.

I sure hope not. The Spychangers were little in the cartoon but they weren't tiny. They were about only a head or so shorter than the Autobot Brothers. I wouldn't want to them to be any smaller than Core class at the tiniest. Ideally, if they could bring back the old Basic/Scout class or make them short Deluxes, that'd be perfect. The old G2 Go-Bot molds they were originally made from did no justice to their in-show size.

I totally get it, especially when it comes to what Hasbro is doing with Dinoking.

Same with how the members of Team Bullet Train were each only Voyager height in their toys but towered over everybody in the show.

Image

Then again, almost every original toy in the Car Robots line was out of scale with their onscreen depictions. The only ones who seemed to fit with their show sizes were all five Predacons, the Autobot Brothers, Skid-Z, and Tow-Line. Everyone else's sizes were out of whack between the toys and the show:
  • Optimus was too tall, which made Ultra Magnus even more too tall. But to be fair, Optimus's basic robot mode was made to scale to the height of the original G1 Laser OP mold that was used to make Scourge, but he too was smaller in the show.
  • All five Decepticon Commandos were much taller in the show than their G1 Combaticon mold toys were. Mega-Octane alone was much taller than both Scourge and Optimus's basic robot mode.
  • The Build Team members were each pretty big dudes, though Wedge wasn't too far from the heights of the Autobot Brothers, but he was smaller than the other three.
  • And Fort Max's Cerebros component was the same height as the Autobot Brothers, meaning the toy of Fort Max himself needed to be at least four times bigger. :P
