I can certainly think of worse things.
Overlord: Sad about no lips, but FRIGGIN' AWESOME
He does look pretty good. I'm still not sure I'd pick him over the MMC offering, but we shall see.
Windblade: I'm somewhat excited, but something keeps seeming... off about the figure's proportions. Her legs are odd or her (awesome) swords are oversized or her waist is too long... I really think this is one I'll need to wait on a review for.
This is exactly my opinion. Plane mode looks OK, robot mode looks...off somehow. I think those renders aren't exactly doing the poor girl justice, but I'm still concerned. Also, who puts TM seats on a SWORD?
Twintwist: Looks just as great as Top Spin! ... Rain is wet!
Yep. Those two are on my list for sure.
Octane: I love the retooled plane mode parts, it goes such a long way in making it better.
I'm glad you like him, but that plane mode is still pretty weak IMO. I might have to spring for Unique Toys' offering- it's big, yeah, but the modes all look great and the vehicle mode scales pretty well with CHUG.
Blitzwing: Looks pretty great, but there's something about him I'm not too sure on that I just can't quite pin down...
Maybe it's the fake kibble? Though I will say, I like how they made the chest "jet spine" detail into an air intake for jet mode.
Seaspray: Looks cool I suppose
Seaspray is one of those characters I really can't find myself giving enough of a sh!t about to get excited for. I might just track down that 2010 figure.
Ramhorn: CUUUUUUTE CUTE CUTE CUTE WANT HIM
Pretty much. I wish he were Blaster compatible but still he's adorable.
Quickswitch: Not very good, really. I mean, it's a Sixshot in different colours so as a toy it's not bad at all, but it's a terrible representation of a character who there isn't much of a reason to care about in the first place. Probably the worst thing here if I'm honest...
Yeah, Quickswitch looks pretty "meh". And Sixshot didn't look that great to begin with.
Nautica: ... now that the initial hype has turned down, I'm really let down by this figure. Quickswitch might be what I think is the worst here, but Nautica to me is the biggest disappointment and for me on a personal level, it really frustrates me that one of my favourite Transformers characters (she's in the top 5. The rest are modern IDW characters, surprise surprise) got gipped so bad like this. The head is all wrong, the fans look off and are placed very badly, the chest just offsets the whole thing... I've been fine with MTMTE characters on my shelf not actually looking like how they do in MTMTE, but for the most part I'm able to excuse it either because the headsculpt is spot on even if the rest of the body is very much off (Chromedome), it's what the character used to look like in the continuity and it has enough key defining features to work in the slot (Hot Rod), or in general I'm able to excuse it because it's taking hints from more popular versions of the character who I identify as the same character anyway. But Nautica had nothing else to take inspiration from. So everything off about her is nigh-inexcusable to me and I'm just not fond of this figure at all.
Even as a non-IDW reader, I'm very disappointed in Nautica. She doesn't look like the character and she doesn't even look good. The fact you have to buy a boxset to get her is the sweetcorn on the sh!t sundae.
Laser Prime: This one surprised me. I friggin' LOVE these colours on this guy! ... well, I say that, but to me they're icing on the cake. What's the cake? Optimus burning down a forest. That's my favourite stupid thing about the original toy and it's just the perfect representation of trying-too-hard-to-be-rad-bodicus-awesome of 90s Transformers. I love me some stupid!
I'm really worried about that sticker getting shredded over time by the rigours of transformation but otherwise he's perfect.
Fastlane: Surprised he's a new mold. And... and he's honestly absolutely adorable. Look at his robot mode proportions; he's just so cuuuuute.
Yes. More cute tiny robots is always cool.
Rodimus Prime: Biiit disappointed it's not an IDW Rodimus head, but hey, looks cool regardless.
The main appeal to me is the diecast content, and also ANOTHER HEAD WOOOOO.
Strength set:
Magnus Prime: They're releasing the Takara mold! Awesome! Precedent! SILVER AND GUNS!
See WJ88's points.
Tidal Wave: Bleh. Almost as bad a mold re-use as Quickswitch imo and it's disappointing he doesn't have the green from the original (hasbro version of the) toy to make him more visually appealing.
I dunno. I think he looks pretty cool, though again I'm not sure I'll replace my beloved Energon Tidal Wave with him.
Metalhawk: Hm. Hmmm. Hmmmmmm. I want to like this guy, but something feels off once again. Maybe it's just how abrupt the colour breakup at the torso is and how the blue and dark gold or whatever doesn't contrast that great side by side like that.
I think the colours just look plain ugly, but that's just my opinion.
Pounce: Same as Fastlane, but I kind of like that Puma mode! Especially considering the original toy's Puma mode, have you seen that thing? It's amazing.
Yep. Pounce is adorable.
Thunderwing: This one's an enigma for me. Who are you supposed to use him on? Is it for a potential Sky Shadow custom? In that case why is he the size of a normal Titan Master rather than the Leader thing of making the Titan Master the face and the helmet making up the rest of the head? Why of all things is this the face that's incredibly IDW-based? Gaaaah. I just don't get why he's here! But still, it looks very nice and he's a cool little extra I suppose.
I guess so. Though Sky Shadow needs those Gigeresque details on his chest to work as Thunderwing IMO.
But yes. Overall I have to say, I mostly agree with you.
