We have a Deadline article detailing Hasbro potentially selling off some of it's EOne assets. The part that is transformers related though is that the sale will provide funds to further invest in brands and the Transformers brand is distinctively pointed out. You can read the exerpt of the article below. One important thing, when it comes to brand, the idea here is IP. So this is not about putting more money in toys, it's about financing more projects with the Transformers IP and growing that brand. It can mean basically anything. But the point is, Transformers is seen as a strong brand that Hasbro only wants to expand upon and make stronger.

The announcement today said Hasbro plans to significantly increase strategic investment in key brands with a focus on gaming, direct to consumer, franchise brands and licensing.

Priority brands for investment include Peppa Pig, Transformers, Dungeons & Dragons, Magic: The Gathering, My Little Pony, Power Rangers, Play-Doh and board games including Monopoly and Clue.

Hasbro has been wanting to sell off Eone since Goldner died, the other executives just didn't share his vision. Somehow, someway, I think this is only going to make things MORE expensive. If you need me I'll be working the point to pay off my Dragonzord.

I'm more surprised by the fact that they want to invest in the Monopoly board game. Does anybody actually PLAY that thing?

That’s surprising considering the Haslab HISS Tank’s success.

I do wonder if the order that the brands are listed in reflects their priority, cause it be funny as Hell if Transformers beat out D&D and Magic: The Gathering but isn’t as important to Hasbro as a 7ft. pig.

Who cares if they play it if they can keep selling re-releases skinned with new IPs.

I still think they would do good with direct to video/streaming animated movies like DC does with comic story lines. First one, of course, Last Stand of the Wreckers. Pretty sure these would do really well. I know I would love them at least. No need to change anything story wise, just make the comics animated movies. Seems like a no brainer.

Pretty much. The big message since the last Investor's Day is that they'll be focusing on "lesser, better brands", a phrase which here means "focus exclusively on our current big cashcows at the expense of anything else".

I just hope they don't let the more obscure brands slip under the radar and expire by the time they want to use them, like what happened with Inhumanoids.

Transformers is smaller now in originality, entertainment, and marketing than it was in the 2000's, this means nothing.

As long as they buy it, it doesn't matter what they do after the point of sale.

I wonder if the reason that hasbro wants to put more money into peppa pig is because of the arrival of a hundred times better Australian rival? ;)

It'll be interesting what this will actually mean for the transformers brand with more money going to it :?

Yup, most parents I know switched their kids over to Bluey (despite the dads feeling intimidated by Bandit) over the pig.
