Changeable Transformers Costumes Showing Up at Sam's Club

Kids now have the opportunity to live out their Transformers fantasies that many of us never had the chance to. Sam's Club is currently selling changeable Transformers costumes in store and online (currently sold out) for kids. For $50 you can dress up your kids as either Optimus Prime or Bumblebee in the Evergreen design style with both suitable for 4 to 8-year-olds. They're rather elaborate costumes featuring padded body suits and and body "kibble" that finishes the transformation, but are also optional as the body suit is fully printed with vehicle details. The downside (aside from not coming in adult sizes) is that as complex as the costumes are they only come with a cheap vacuum formed half mask.

As a cheaper option they're also carrying non-changeable options that additional padded details for $25. The body suits appear to be generic muscle suits, but kids aren't likely to care. If any of these were around when I was a kid it's probably the only thing I would have ever wanted to ever wear!

I'd laugh - but look how grown adults dress up at those "comic-con" gatherings! These should be fine for kids who are fans of the franchise, and not yet old enough to realize how cheesy the costumes are. Ah, to live a life without shame...

To anyone complaining that these costumes should be better, here's the TF Halloween costume you got if you grew up in the '80s:

Mine was actually the "Jumpstarter", but Shockwave would call the Snarl model equally illogical.

I see nothing but awesome in these new costumes, even the mask is better.

Bow down to me in your prone position 10 times, loyal subjects, then I'll consider giving you a piece of cake! Or off with your head!

This is funny only for the people watching the dressed up guy "transforming" into the vehicle mode. Imagine all the dirt, gums & germs collected on the customes after a few "tranformations." Who would ask for/buy these customs for themselves to be abused that way?

One year for Halloween my mother made me a transformable Optimus Prime costume out of cardboard. I would ring doorbells, crouch down and flip the cab over my head and shoulders (sort of like a Bot Shot, thinking about it). Then when people answered the door I could "transform" by standing up. I thought it was great, but not too many people knew what I was suppossed to be

Of course they are better than that, but how is that an excuse? Yet they do get close, but miss. Worse than if they didn't try at all.

For example, why they have two chests. I understand why, but the second one doesn't even cover the first, making it look quite awkward.

would the Optimus look better with bent knees in truck mode?

First, it's probably not being worn right, it's held on with shoulder straps and can probably be adjusted to sit higher. Second, it's probably asking a lot for a kid to lug the whole thing around on their weak little bodies on Halloween so the printed truck cab on the body suit lets them take the transforming part off and still be the character.

Makes sense, but would optimus truck mode look better with knees bent?

If you can pull off the yoga pose. Unless you're a pretzel to make the bed totally flat, the legs and back can bend only so far. Would be really uncomfortable after a while too.

I could easily pull it off at age 14, everyone thought I was a freak when they saw how I could sit. Don't ask!

And I'm stiff as a board by contrast, yet can move myself in very tight spaces. Don't ask!
