Here's some odd but delightful news to share and it comes courtesy of BBC News Portsmouth. According to the report, a paleontology student at Portsmouth University has named a new species of Pterosaur after IDW Maximum Dinobot Comic Artist Nick Roche.

The dinosaur's full name is Klobiodon rochei, with the first part of the name meaning "Cage Tooth" and the second referencing Nick.

Nick posted about the naming on Twitter, having shown his gratitude to the student by sending him some signed prints and a design page for IDW Swoop.

Nick Roche wrote:Oh, Can you please send that back, mate? I've been looking for that. Ta.

(Full dislcosure: Mikey's a paleontologist who named a FLIPPING DINOSAUR - Klobiodon Rochei - After me! https://t.co/8xE3CsaOSm)

But yeah, send that back, mate. Cheers https://t.co/CBFw9ritOx

This is awesome. I’d love to know the reasoning, although I’m assuming it has something to do with that magnificent chin.

This is not a dinosaur.

It's a pterosaur. (A rhamphorynchid, to be precise: it has a tail).

I am astounded that this happened in 2018. If it has wings, it is not a dinosaur.

Well if the late Micheal Crichton (author of a little book called Jurassic Park maybe some of you heard of it) can get a dinosaur named after him so can an artist who drew robot dinosaurs once.

So Congrats Nick Roche!

The student is Mikey from the Transformers focused Moonbase 2 podcast. He has talked about this for the last little bit on the podcast.

I was going to point out that it was in fact a pterosaur and not a dinosaur. Pterosaurs are archosaur-line animals related to dinosaurs, crocodillians, and obviously birds. Typically, they are incorrectly presumed to be dinosaurs, but they're closer to dinosaurs though than animals like Plesiosaurus, Kronosaurus, Tylosaurus, and Mosasaurus though. Actually, fun fact, Tylosaurus and mosasaurs like it are related to monitor lizards while Plesiosaurus and Kronosaurus fall under Sauropterygia and are defined as Plesiosaurs and Pliosaurs, which are both closely related. Think of pliosaurs as basically short-necked plesiosaurs.

Oh and Dimetrodon, before anybody says it, is a synapsid and therefore closer to mammals than dinosaurs. :P
