Play Arts appreciation thread

I've been working on getting back into the swing of things and one of the things I need to catch up on collection is my Play Arts stuff.

I remember when the Advent Children figures were first released and they were freaking amazing. Now we have more than just Final Fantasy Figures in the line up. I need to get my hands on Dante and Nero.

Who else on the boards collects Play Arts?

I do like Play Arts, though I only have a few. Squall, Rinoa, Tifa(FF7 Version), and Selphie. They all look so good standing together. When they can stand that is... Squall has serious balance issues and weak feet, so he topples constantly and tends to take the others with him because I have Tifa and Rinoa linking arms with him when on display, and Selphie down in front. Squall is really the weak link because the Gunblade really doesn't fit at all well in his hands either, but despite all those problems I still love them because they look great!

I just wish they had a bit more articulation...

As for what I'd like for the future of Play Arts, more articulation, Rude of the Turks and the cast of heroes and villains from Secret of Mana and Seiken Densetsu 3! Though that is wishful thinking at best. Boohoo... I'm never going to have my Angela and Guren figures...

Those pics are pretty cool CP. I like the use of the Scourge mold to represent the creatures. Very creative.

I'm about 15 hours into FF XIII and I'm going to be ordering the figures soon. I won't be able to afford Shiva or Odin for a while though. :-( (I'll probably wait for a sale) How does that Shiva figure hold up?

Anyways, I'm picking up Dante and Ezio as well. I'm looking forward to them.

I'm guessing the main difference between the original versions and the Kai figures is size? Detail seems to be extraordinary on both series. Now if only all action figures looked like these guys...

Okay, I just got the Play Arts Ezio figure and while I love it, I'm also dissapointed.

Play Arts is known for accuracy and this one has a obvious mistake on it. Ezio is wearing the Messaglias armour and is wielding the Sword of Altair. The problem there is that he can't have the sword in the game until AFTER he receives the armour of Altair.

I'm actually surprised that they haven't attempted to make one in the armour of Altair. I know the robes are longer and would prevent a lot of poses, but it's a cool enough outfit that I think most fans would forgive the lack of movement just to have Ezio in the armour of Altair outfit.

I'm also hoping that he gets a rerelease in white. I'm a sucker for anything AC.

I also just picked up Sazh and Hope from FFXIII. I'm very impressed. Play arts does not cease to amaze me. Lightning, Snow, and Vanille should show up later next week. I'll just need Fang to complete that set.

I've got a ton of these to buy and I'll need to fill out my ranks of missing FF figures. I'm going to ignor the MGS and Halo stuff since I don't play those games, but Devil May Cry is a must buy.

I got Snow, Lightning and Vanille in the mail today.

What is up with Snow's trenchcoat? I would have preferred no joints in it myself to have a smooth flowing coat, but I'm going to guess it's needed for the Shiva motorcycle.

Lightning is amazing. I wish her hair was a tad longer. The long hair on the side seems longer in the game than on the figure, but that doesn't matter. Overall, a great representation of the figure.

Vanille. Something seems off about the figure, but I can't quite place it.

Regardless, I enjoy the figures quite a bit and they look amazing overall.

Now I just need to hope that the rest of the summons are not released or I'll be financially screwed. At $180 a piece, they are epic combinations of the 2 things I love the most. TF's and Final Fantasy! :-B

I would like to do a display of the XIII figures with the Alexander Eidolon in Wall form as the background.

Snow's jacket is necessary for him to ride Shiva. I actually like it's implementation. I thought it was clever. You're right about Light. She may be the best or tied for the best with Sazh and Fang.

Actually, you're right about Vanille too. They went kind of mid-ground with her and didn't give her a really happy face or a really serious face. I think she's the only one in the group who will not stand up by herself. The thing is, she IS kind of lanky and awkward in the game. So, the figure is accurate to that.

I do like Sazh quite a bit. He's got a great sculpt. I do wish he had a little Chocobo figure to go with him though. Maybe something you could peg onto the top of his head?

Anyways, The lankyness of Vanille I thought they got right. She's kind of in the awkward teen stage so the body sculpt fits that perfectly. Now that you said her face and as I'm currently smashing stuff on Gran Pulse in Chapter 11, the face is what the issue is for the figure. She really should have a happier face. That's what's off.

Snow's jacket is growing on me. I think the thing that put me off initially was part of his coat fell off as soon as I pulled him out of the box. It clipped back on easily enough.

I've got to order a Fang figure. I've heard that one is amazing apart from the knees. doesn't bug me much though as it seems like Kotobukiya is the only company that can make a female action figure and not screw it up.

Now that I think about it, I think they could use what they did with Snow and make a fully poseable Ezio in the Armor of Altair. the clip on pieces would really aid in the design.

My wife and I have been looking for a suitable chocabo chick to no avail.

As for female figures, MaxFactory/GoodSmile is where it's at. Figmas are the best female figures out there. (well, articulated ones)

Yay, someone else joins in the Play Arts merriment!

How much for Dante and Nero? I can get them for $35 a piece on Amazon with free shipping.

The one I really need help finding is the frikkin Full Metal Brotherhood Edward Elric figure. I have only found 2 on the net and they want ridiculous prices for them.

I don't know anything about the figures...but would that be the same Edward Elric figure that HLJ has for ~$42? If so, HLJ has it for ~$42 which seems reasonable compared to the 120+ on amazon.

I'll give a check on the price, but we might be able to work something else out, depending on what stock you have locally.

I'm looking for the RE5 figures they released a while ago, to no avail. If you can get them, I'd happily do a fair trade.(My Rapport on Pheno's ought to give you confidence, I use the same name.)

I'm not sure. There are 2 different Edward figures. One is the Play Arts and the other is Play Arts Kai. The one I need is Play Arts Kai. I also don't want to deal with overseas shipping right now especilally with all the tsunami upheaval. It's very possible that they won't be shipping for a while.

adamassc: Yeah, I'm all for helping each other out. I actually think that some of the Resident Evil figures are available on Amazon. I was able to find Dante and Ezio there when they were sold out on BBTS.

I've got Fang and Dante on the way. I'll be writing up reviews when they arrive.

Well if you change your mind about overseas shipping, it does appear to be the kai version

The MGS: Peace Walker Play Arts Ka Big Boss/ Snake (Sneaking Suit Ver.) is without a doubt the best MGS figure I've ever had and I've been collecting since the 1998 McFarlane releases.
I had the FFVII Cloud Strife figure and I couldn't believe the posability compared to the last one I owned, the Bandai 'Extra Knights' figure released about 10 years ago.

Okay, my FFXIII Fang and Dante arrived.

I'm quite pleased. Dante himself is an amazing representation of the character. The pictures online suck. It's the kind of figure that you absolutely must hold in your hands and see firsthand to know how cool he is. They did a really good job of capturing the spirit of the character in Play Arts form.

Fang is amazing. I don't know what else to say besides that. She looks great on her own and along with the XIII crew.

The only that bugs me is that Play Arts figures don't have decent stands. I liked those ones that used to come with the old ones like the Advent Children stuff.

Isn't it strange that the series 1 FFXIII Play Arts Kai figures had stands and then they just stopped?

Yeah, I find it strange. I like the smaller box as it's smaller for storage.

I wish they start including those stands again. I was not fond of the ridiculously poseable base, but just something to stand the figure up and let them look good. I don't really need the dynamic bases and have left them in the box.

Kotobukiya used to be known for having stands come with all their figures regardless of stability.

Anyways, I saw some reviews on Play Arts Odin and I think that figure now onws my soul. =P~ He might be a partsformer, but at 18 inches tall, he is amazing.
