Is it up on Amazon Japan yet? I missed out on the Action Toys version. Does this mean Action Toys is out of the Machine Robo game?

Machine Robo: Revenge of Cronos Machine Build Series Bike Robo
This item has a release estimate of May 2023 subject to delays.

Kapow Toys - £46.95

So Kapow has good old Cykill. I was wondering if Machine Robo/Gobots has some kind of series bible? I would love to know the inspiration/thought process behind the decision for pitting a dirt bike against a jet fighter?

In a world where scale don't matter and all the bots can Superman in the sky, it could have been a frying pan VS a battleship it wouldn't have made any difference.

I get that. But there is no real clear allegory or symbolism to it. Transformers for example, made it clear who the villain is. Because a gun would never symbolise "good". A lorry in turn, could be allegorical to the everyman.

Cykill and Leader One? Extreme sports and military service? Fun vs responsibility? I'd just be interested to know how the decision making on altmodes came to be.

They had a large pool of extraterrestrial monstrous villains to choose from the original Machine Robo series. But the HEROIC bike was chosen as the "ultimate evil."
That sure was random.

I like that Bike Bots aren't all that popular in either series. But Scooter and Cykill are the two polar opposite examples in Gobots/Machine Robo.

Bike Robo wasn't evil in Machine Robo. Heck, he wasn't even part of the main cast. Just a recurring secondary.

Again, that's why I was curious for more information on the roster selection ala a series bible.

If you're wondering why Challenge of the GoBots made its character selection so different from that of Machine Robo: Revenge of Cronos, it's because Challenge of the GoBots came first, premiering in late 1984, while Revenge of Cronos didn't premiere until mid-1986, a whole seven months after GoBots aired its final episode.

Challenge of the GoBots predated every Machine Robo anime ever produced.

As for why Leader-1 and Cy-Kill were specifically chosen to be the leaders, it likely just boiled down to the names. Tonka chose the names for each of the toys, so Hanna-Barbera or whoever was in charge of creating the backstory lore and fiction likely just picked out which of the "Friendly GoBots" had the most heroic and leader-like name for the Guardians' leader (that being "Leader-1", which is really on the nose) and which of the "Enemy GoBots" had the most villainous and evil-sounding name ("Cy-Kill" literally had the word 'Kill" in his name, so that fit the bill).

It's actually not that far off from how "Optimus Prime" had the most heroic and leader-like name of the 1984 Autobot toys and how "Megatron" had the most villainous and evil-sounding name of the 1984 Decepticon toys (it was a name Hasbro even initially turned down for sounding too scary, only going through with it after Budiansky convinced them that that was the point of the name).

I was looking for more of an overview on character selection as a whole. I still haven't actually watched any of Machine Robo itself. Gobots, not since the repeats of the early 90's.

I remember, even as a kid, groaning at the naming convention of Gobots.

Have you seen the new Machine robo line? They're all "Duocons" of the most crazy of combinations. A taxi and a tree, a cake and an ambulance. It's their "hold my beer" moment when looking at BotBots.
