The first thing I tell friends about this show is that it is definitely not targeted for kids. The story and action is too mature for kids. It's why it's so good. It's not just cheesy humor and Voltron always coming to save the day. There's more to it than that, and that's why it's such an awesome show. Happy to hear it's only half way through because I can't get enough of it. I only have 2 episdoes left, and I'll surely be done by the end of today :(

As for the Classic lions, it's neat that it's interchangeable with the Legendary Defender lions. But then that means I kinda want to pick up both sets, and I just don't have space for 2 16" Voltrons!

Picked up an 84 Black Lion at Walmart tonight (passed over PotP Jazz and Dreadwind for him) and he is fantastic! I have the 23" Mattel Voltron and he blows that one away. He (like the previous LD Black Lion) feels like he's well worth the $30 thanks to his size, weight, FX and overall quality. I was a little concerned about the way his Voltron head looked on the box with the long neck, but it's just poorly positioned and can be pushed down. Extremely happy with this! The one thing I don't like is that Voltron's torso is too long to accommodate the electronics. They probably could have fixed that by making the red portion and plate on his chest larger, but then they'd need a larger area to light up and this was probably the best compromise.

My Target DOES have the rest of the lions, but not in the Voltron section with the LD stuff. Instead they were on the back endcap facing the board games. Looking forward to getting all of them, the cartoon look is so nice on these, they even have proper NECKS!

Funny you should say that. While I was looking at Transformers there was a little kid behind me pointing out all of the Voltron Lions he owned to his dad. So that's at least one kid that likes the new Voltron. But let's not forget that the non-combining lions, Voltron action figures, and role play toys are definitely being made with kids in mind. They haven't seemed like big sellers (aside from the pilot figures), but they keep making them so I guess some kids are buying them.

I quite agree. I almost picked up the rest of the lions at Target and canceled my BBTS order. They look really nice in hand.

Yeah, your anecdote here, Emerje, is kinda why I assumed the show was targeted at kids. The packaging and figures themselves definitely seemed targeted to kids. Plus, by brother-in-law said his kids love the show (granted they are 12 and 14, and are far more interested in their phones than toys like these). So I am confused why the Netflix show is not more targeted at kids. I think this is where the 80s cartoons (all of them associated with a toy line) and George Lucas were genius. I don't get today's marketing...

So, I got my POL. And dang....the Classic Legendary Voltron is exactly what I've wanted since I was a kid. I'm almost speechless. Is it perfect? Nope. But, then I'm not sure how much I want to spend for perfection. I do know that if I had gotten that SOC version, I'd have transformed the lions a couple of times, max, and then found a nice display place for him. This Playmates version is getting played with *a lot* over the next couple of weeks. He stands pretty decently with my KO version of the Vehicle Voltron. I'll have to snap some pictures.

I am promising a lot of pics lately... :-?

Not new to the Voltron party but new to the thread.

I had been passing on these neat toys since they came out. My reissue of the classic 80's Bandai toy always seemed to be all the Voltron I needed.
Plus I helped Willy James acquire his big Voltron set, and got to play with him before I shipped it north. Thanks WJ! Great toy for sure.

But I was at Target today and noticed that they were all on clearance. Most at 50% off. I had heard the same report from my brother out in L.A.
I buckled. I went ahead and picked up the Metal Defender diecast combining set for half off. He's a pretty great little figure with decent articulation when combined. The individual lions are nice too, with great leg articulation. Not sure he would have been worth the full price, but well worth it at half. And I won't lie and say I wasn't tempted to get the big Classic set, but....

Image

I'm a little bummed to see the line might be ending.
If anybody needs to finish their sets, now is a good time to strike.

Indeed, that diecast version from the show is neat. I bought the giftset when it was on sale around Xmas.

I, too, have the old Bandai one (you're talking about the diecast one from the 80s, right?) but I have to say that the new one is pretty friggin' awesome. I'm glad I paid full price, and I would highly recommend it if you can get it for the clearance prices, if that fits your budget. He is still one of the figures I fiddle with the most, even over some of my recent Transformers. ;)^

It's a little shocking that after the Legendary Defender toys have been in stores for so long the Classic 84 Lions are already on clearance at Walmart and Target. Sunday I managed to get a the 84 green and blue lions for just under $9 each, but the others were gone. I already have the black lion which was a mere $15, I should have bought one just to hold onto. I wish they had a LD Black lion left at that price, I need one to complete a second set.

Lucky! I would totally get it at that price.

Disappointed the big retailers have discontinued Voltron toys? Well Sonic Drive-in has your back.

And I'll partsform the head!

I found out from a co-worker who went to Sonic today. I think the real news about Sonic is the pickle slush they will be releasing this summer. Apparently it's a big dill :BANG_HEAD:

EDIT: they come with a 20% coupon to ToysЯUs

There aren't any Sonics in Maine, doesn't stop them from advertising every commercial break, just like Red Lobster. :HEADHURTS:

Yeah, who needs a Red Lobster in Maine. I can just walk out onto a beach and there are these crates full of free lobsters just a little ways out in the water. ;)

I've been slowly unpacking my collection since moving...um...a year ago? At any rate, accidentally, I have the new 84 set shaking hands with Energon Unicron. Unicron makes a decent Robeast...

Unicron Robeast?

Also, that lobster comment references Seinfeld, in case anyone is as old as me...

Yeah, we did have Red Lobsters once, but when nobody went there they all turned into Olive Gardens. Sonics, though, they sure do sound good in the commercials.

I need to finish my '84 set (Red and Yellow Lions), can't believe they got clearanced out so soon after being released up here. The Walmarts here didn't even have time to stock the Black Lion the line came and went so quickly. They basically stocked one case of Lions each and then stuck clearance tags on the empty shelves a month later. If I knew this was going to happen after the LD stuff was on the shelves for a year I would have grabbed them all sooner. At least the Amazon prices are still fair.

I was in Pittsburgh and checked out the Target there. I saw a classic Blue Lion on clearance for $10. If they had more than just the 1, I would've picked it up. I just didn't want to be stuck with 1 at a good price and having to pay up for the others, especially for something I really don't "need." Wish Amazon would drop it to those clearance prices lol

The classic voltron set has yet to make an appearance in Canada. And the only Sonic I know is this guy:

Just saw this today on BBTS:

http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Product/V ... ails/73915

What do you guys think of this? I'm not familiar at all with Super Mini-Pla kits at all. Looks like they're model kits, but the figures transform and combine. Sounds cool but wondering what the quality is. Thinking of picking up the MMPR kits too if these are of good quality.

Super Mini-Pla are basically tiny model kits, which are really nicely done for their size, but aren't going to look as good as those photos without paint. This is definitely a kit I don't want to miss, though it looks like I missed HLJ's listing for $42. These do typically get a few runs so we'll see what happens.

I just hope he's the same size as the MMPR Mega Zord and GaoGaiGar from the line.

I watched a few videos of the MMPR super mini-pla figures, and they looked good. Not sure if they painted them or anything. I went ahead and ordered the first 2 from Amazon since the price was below MSRP. If they're nice, I'll keep my pre-order for Voltron.

I assume putting together one of these figures is easy (max of 30 minutes)?

I have the Megazord and Dragonzord kits and they're bigger than the standard Sentai Minipla. Right now I only have enough built for the Dragonzord battle mode.

Looks super dope sauce and fun to build, but a little out of my price range.

Speaking of building Voltron, anyone seen this Mini-pla kit by Bandai?

I'm actually plenty tempted by it.
