Oh all of those were in Japan! I was there visiting my partner, and made the matcha cake myself (it's my ..thing now? she requests it on every visit) and the parfait is also matcha, from a place at the Osaka Expo park. :D

I've never had matcha, what's it taste like? Tea?

I almost bought some matcha Kit Kats at an asian supermarket we support. The ragrets, I has them.

Matcha is a type of green tea, very bitter but also really quite smooth.
Matcha chocolate is very tasty, but do be aware of the slight bitterness - it works great in icecream and cakes because of the sweetness of everything else to contrast it.

Sounds up my ally. I drink my coffee black and I prefer very dark high cocoa % chocolate. Well one of these days... thanks for the info ;)^

Well look at you and your new Transformers. I probably missed the explanation on the photo dump or instastalk. Self purchase or gift? Are they awesome? Those are some of the few PotP figures I want.

aka, the newest versions of the three toys I had as a kid, now long lost to discarded furniture, old cars, holiday trips, airport layovers, who-knows-where.

I love updating the old favorites, Va'al. :)

The essentials for me (well, all the ones I've bought, but if I were to narrow it down to the "Triumvirate" of TFs...) were:
1. Soundwave (you never forget your first)
2. Megatron (you never forget the Decepticon Leader your friend snapped in half the first day home)
3. Optimus Prime (since I lean towards animation-accuracy, it took awhile before I finally got MPP10)

Kinda boring, but they were my favorite 3 of the G1 cartoon....I was always Soundwave. :CON:

I was thinking about this a bit the other day, as I was cleaning the cabinet, and I'd say that those three are definitely the only ones I'd care about getting an 'upgrade', and I did.

Optimus Primal is fine the way it is, with the junker bought to fix the issues my original one had, and the G2 Optimus Prime I have is still in fine shape too (and MP10 is my centerpiece, I'll maintain that despite not showing him off that much) - both seen here. The G2 Optimus was actually given to me as a present at the same time as Hardhead, but I think the latter got more of a bashing. G2 Sideswipe was a gift from my dad after a work trip, and it lasted for as long as a diecast car can last in a kid's hands.

I have no idea where Battletrap came from, but it was lost when my dad changed cars (it used to live in the seat pocket so I always had something to play with on car trips; I think I had a story worked out and everything).

And really? Before Beast Wars, that was all I had. And even then, I had no more than 10 overall, from scattered lines. With no interest now to go back to them, which is easy and cheap! :P

There are a few figures that the kids have in the car -- Gnaw and Wire Tap V20, iirc. I love sharing the hobby with both of them....and I'm trying to show them how to take care of them, rather than bash them to pieces like I did at their age.

Are you talking about G2 Laser Optimus? My younger brother got him long after I had stopped collecting, but he was our go-to Optimus -- he looked so good, and was durable! He was a wonderful upgrade to the robofather figure I admired. ;)

There's definitely value in the whole "less is more" -- instead of throwing in another/new bot, you had imagination to inspire new scenes and situations. Nowadays, I have too many, so we may have to do some Spring Cleaning...

Oh, I forgot to link! Edited the post now, I meant my G2 reissue of the basic Optimus Prime figure, the one that came with trailer and soundbox.

Ah yes, the original G2! I love the pics with him and Primal. :)

I'm a new fan to BW, and I was going to pick-up the upcoming PotP figure and a CHUG version of his first form like you have there -- but found a used MP32 for cheaper (especially since I'm keeping my Optimal!).

That should bring my recent Beast Hunt to a close....but vintage toy shopping can be so fun. Especially when the latest lines aren't regularly available.

Thanks!

And see, that's what I meant: with these 'updates' if you will, I don't feel the need to go back to find others, and even when I'm browsing sales tables at cons and second-hand stores, the impulse is only very very minor (usually only Battle Unicorn because, come on, it's a battle unicorn) and I usually regret it veeeery quickly, or have done in the past.

Which also kinda means I feel like, unless something truly sensational appears in next toylines, this may be actually it in terms of toys. :-?

I get that feeling, too.

I will be completing Abominus, since I always wanted him, but the only other must-haves for me are Moonracer, Prime Master Bludgeon and Novastar. We don't have enough femme-bots, and I'm done hunting for a G1 Bludgeon. :p

Poetry is serious business.

Shall I write of thee on this April’s day?
Thou art more lovely and more of plastic:
rough joints may plague thee– but hey!
some of this at least has been fantastic.
Sometime too hot the orange palette shines,
and often the pale complexion yellows
and every fair of toy sometime reminds,
by chance, of your franchise’s changing fellows.
But thy eternal glimmer shall not fade
nor lose possession of that mode thou ow’st
nor shall rust brag thou crumbl’st in its shade
when also in eternal lineart thou grow’st.
So long as haters seethe and eyes can roll
out loud I commit to you my own soul.
