I read the new Punisher and Mtg.

Chandra is coming back to Mtg. I wonder if Jaya Ballard was or will be in some mtg comic. There's going to be a side story of mtg.

I think Jessica Jones was sleeping with Frank Castle and Maria Stevens kids. Lisa and Frankie used to be called Barbara and Little Johnny in the 80s.

The way things are going in this country that's probably something every common sense individual should read.

Right now, I'm reading The Sun Dog by Stephen King. Up next are my Marvel RoboCop comics.

I just finished it a few days ago. Pretty good ending, I wish there was a part 3 focusing on Prowl, considering the ending of part 2.

I'm about to start reading The Shining by Stephen King.

'Dangerous Visions' - a very important compilation of science fiction short stories from 1967. The editor was Harlan Ellison, who also writes SF. There are many themes in the stories such as time travel, human advancement, things not being what they seem, body augmentation, etc.

The first story is about humanity somehow surpassing God in terms of power. They acquire the means to capture and imprison Him. It's in no way realistic but it expresses the mood of the time, when technology was leaping forward faster than ever before: space travel, atomic energy, jet planes, computers, modern medicine, birth control, etc.

The final story is about how, in an alternate universe, all human astronauts have to be neutered. This is because of excessive cosmic radiation in space. The radiation damages the reproductive system. Humanity tries to avoid the creation of mutants by the use of neutering. However, those who stay on Earth are sometimes strongly attracted to astronauts. These people are referred to as 'frelks', which is a derogatory term.

Somewhere in the middle is 'The Jigsaw Man' story which is, apparently, the first to deal with a scenario of mass-scale organ transplantation. This includes organ-legging, where people are kidnapped and some organs are removed against their will. If enough organs are taken, it becomes murder. This happens occasionally in some parts of the world in real life.

Also central to the plot is official organ harvesting from criminals who are sentenced to death. Their use as 'organ banks' makes their executions far more useful to society. In real life, China does this today. Organs are shown being stored in large vats of nutrient solution.

Unfortunately, the story was written too early to address the serious problem of transplant rejection by the human immune system, plus the need for multiple drugs to neutralise this tendency.

Reading current issue of Viz Comic (August 2023). Regular story 'Sid the Sexist' had no sexism this time, only stuff about bad beer and resultant sickness. Complained to Viz Comic about it. Maybe I will win £5 or a pencil.

Weird that I've never noticed this thread before? :-?

I've been reading a few things lately. I bought the novelisation of (Doctor Who) The Two Doctors for under £2. Not a very long book, but definitely worth the price.

My brother has been raving about The Witcher TV show. So I've been reading the books (I am one of those). Just finished Blood of Elves last night. A really solid read and I'm looking forward to the next one.

On the comics side of things, I read X-Men Hellfire Gala (2023) #1. To use a Game of Thrones reference. The Mutants just had their Red Wedding  . I've been following and really enjoying the Krakoa Era, these past few years. Especially after how bad the last decade or so of X-Men has been. I knew these issues were the start of the 'Fall of X' arc. I just didn't expect so much to happen so soon.

Currently reading some Lovecraft. The book is called The Doom That Came to Sarnath, but it's an anthology of other works as well.

Fortean Times: the magazine of the strange and uncanny. Main articles this month are about ghosts, witches and UFOs. I like to find related news stories and submit them as 'clippings'. Several dozen have been published over the last 20 years or so. Recently, I submitted a story about someone finally finding proof of the existence of panthers in the British countryside. Hairs with DNA were found on fence wire, somewhere in the south west. Panthers are not native to Britain. They were released from private collections, probably in the 1970s.
