Jammin' Til All are One!

Howdy fellow Seibertronians. I wanted to open a little place to share my musical interests. I was thinking about a long winded opening about my musical tastes and some of my past obsessions, but I think I'm just going to post what ever songs that are making high repeat on my playlist from week to week. So strap on a pair of headphones and prepare for a ride.

So I'm going start off with Elastic Heart by Sia. There is a fun little thing about this video that links it to everyone's favorite TF site. Shia LaBeouf or what I used to call him "Crazy LaBeouf", but after watching this video I've renamed him "Manly LaBeouf".

I'm not familiar with this artist at all, but I just can't stop listening to this song. After reading the comments though and thinking that I understand the message that the artist is trying to convey; I can no longer watch the video. So, do yourself a favor and watch the video then read the spoiler below.

You are probably way more clever than I am and figured this video out on the first watch, if not:
If I have this right, the girl represents the artist, Shia is the alcoholic father and the cage represents alcoholism.
Now go watch the video again.

OK, now to lighten the mood.

This next artist is Alabama Shakes. The Mrs. just picked up the album and I just cannot put it down. Honestly, I could post the entire thing, but I think I will stick to just two songs. There is nothing mind numbing about these songs, just really, really damn good jams! I will say that I think a first listen to a song should be without visuals. I will make an exception to that for the video posted above.

F**K it, this album is just too good not to share some more.

And I wouldn't feel right if I didn't share the wifey's fav.

Please feel free to share your thoughts, your current musically obsessions or something you think I would enjoy here.

Well, I can't party with "Whatcha' playin Cary?", but I can JAM ON THE 1 in here!

Elastic Heart is beautiful. I played it twice. Fist time I turned off the monitor and listened. 2nd time I watched the vid. The song is fantastic. I didn't listen to the lyrics to hard the 1st time, and I got a real Cocteau Twins vibe. Which is nice. Great singing though.
The vid was interesting, and I was definitely getting a father / daughter vibe from their interaction, but I didn't necessarily pick up on the alcoholism.
Is the singer Sia, or is the band Sia?

Thanks for the jam.

I'm all over the Shakes. They burn it up!

I'd like to give you a recommendation, but I need to know more about what you like. :-?

So I'll just leave this silly thing here to keep the beats pumpin'.

Hey Cobs, that's a nice groove you dropped in here. Well I don't wanna kill the vibe, so I won't.

I know next to nothing about Sia, but I would assume its the name of the singer/artist kinda thing? I'm sure wikipedia can help us out.

But I'm a product of my generation. If I had to pick just one genre, it would be 90's alt-rock, but I don't really wanna pigeon hole myself that way. I'm probably not as diverse as I'd like to pretend. Currently I listen primarily to indie rock or what ever they play on Sirius XMU. We've been tearing up the Dr. Dog pandora station lately as well as the Washed Out station. I could start name dropping artist but then I would never get to where I'm going. Maybe eclectic is a good way to describe my taste.

So to keep a party vibe going I will post a few songs.

Burn, thanks for the insight. I haven't taken the time to listen to any of her backlog, other than Big Girls Cry; do you have any recommendations?

Hah Ha! That cherub song is the jam. Silly kids. That one is new to me.

Here is a guy who's new to me, but been around for a minute. Mayor Hawthorne.
This is his new band, Tuxedo.

He is well aware, and openly talks about the fact that this is a pre-exsisting jam.
He states the jam is so good, it had to be expanded upon. I agree. And both Doggs, Snoop and Nate, must have too.

carythebeat wrote: If I had to pick just one genre, it would be 90's alt-rock

I like my 90's. I was young and impresionable then. :D
I like a lot of British 90's. You?

HAHAHAHA, I just noticed you got my reference.

Can't say I've heard of Tuxedo, but Do It sounded familiar and Number One's video had a nice bouncy quality to it.

Not something I would choose to listen to, but would enjoy in a mix.

I've heard of the Stone Roses before, but I can't say I know any of their tunes off the top of my head. I enjoyed what you posted, though. It's been a really long day and I'm just drawing a complete blank. So, I will just shift gears and post some more of my current earworms.

I've enjoyed these guys for the last few years. This is from their current album and seems like a departure from their old sound. Well I've enjoyed everything I've heard from it so far.

This is another one of those bands/artist that I know nothing about. I heard this song and I needed to listen to it on high repeat. I like to listen to it when I'm walking the pup.

Another artist that's been on high repeat at the house.

Go Hammer! Go Hammer! Go! Go! 8-bit Hammer!

Would you like some coffee? Why yes, thank you!

One of the things I miss the most while on the road is good coffee. I'm sure there are songs that are actually about coffee, but this is always what I think of.

I could listen to Stevie Ray Vaughan all day everyday and never get tired of his music.

Speaking of coffee, my thermos that my sweet wife gifted me many years ago is one of my favorite things in the world. It goes everywhere with me. It should probably have it's own AAA card at this point. It was just in the background on my collection thread, so why not give it a featured pic right now.

And if anyone is wondering what type of coffee I drink.

Image

I like my coffee the same way I like my whisky, neat. They used to just call it "New Orleans Blend". Not sure why or when they changed it. But anyway, everything else is just coffee flavored water.

I don't drink coffee, not on a regular basis anyway. I do like the taste of basic black coffee, though.

It is an urn and a memorial to all the coffee beans that have given their lives; and in return I worship and praise it as the god of mornings it truely has become.

>:oP

Too much? I really like coffee, can you tell?

Edit: worshipping at the alter right now

Hahaha I was thinking the same thing while I was filling out my mileage sheet this morning.

Is you making the trip to see 311?

I should be in the office today, wanna hang out here and post a **** ton of music? I've been hearing a lot of good stuff lately.

Will Arnett is hosting Sirius XMU all day.

You SHOULD make it a big deal in Omaha!! Omaha Stylee and such :-D

And no Cary, I'm not headed to NOLA :( If I was headed that way you'd know!!

311 is really the only band I constantly listen to and I've never seen them live. It's sad.

They are playing while I'm here at the office though so that's all that matters.

Ok as you probably already know, I drive a lot. So my satellite radio is one of the few things that keep me sane. I also listen to young people music and the new old people music 90's grunge and alternative. Anyway, XMU (the indie rock channel) is on 90% of the time while I'm cruising around so I hear all kinds of new stuff.

I heard this yesterday and there isn't even a youtube vid out yet. I don't think there is a way to embed music here so I'll just link ya off site for a sec.

Check this out and tell me what cha think.

This track is the slow jam you've been looking for.

I miss SXMU, and awesome that Will Arnett is hosting. Anyone see the Jimmy Kimmel Batman vs Superman deleted scene? He's in that. And he's in the new movie Pop Star: Never Stop Never Stopping, which looks to be as hilarious as Hot Rod.

For your track, I'll listen tomorrow, when it's not 311 day :)

Shame on you for not checking it out.

Speaking of Will Arnett awesomeness, he has a new Netflix show Flaked debuting today! We're going check it out.

Sydney, The List Goes On reminds me of some Hall and Oats (driving around Vice City) and maybe more specially this.

Speaking of Daryl Hall and John Oates, please tell me you've watched the Yacht Rock series on the YouTubes. The creators hosted one of the SXM channels right before I terminated my service back in November. It was a great send off for me

I missed that. And why no links? This thread is fo jammin! I still haven't wrapped my head around what exactly "yacht rock" is yet.

I've heard the DJs talking about it, but haven't taken the time to see whats up with it.

I think the band Yacht counts and I reference this song all the time.

Oh, that Sydney song is gorgeous. Yazz flute and all!

Cram, you California vagina sailor, you bet your smooth rock ass I've seen Yacht Rock! Probably one of the best things to happen to the interweb since 1s and 0s.

I'd make the trip to N'Orleans if I could catch a ride with one of the members of 311. :P

Yacht Rock wasn't supposed to be an actual thing, but the YouTube series about it basically created a genre of music that was already there with a new name. Hilarious stuff if you have the time and remember the music.
