Still not super happy with how he turned out, but I do like him better than the all-blue he was before.


Another angle with his Sharpie-repaint buddy, RiD Windblade.

And then back to the present (or even further into the past, depending how you look at it) with a loose recreation of the Sharkticon battle from the '86 movie. I say 'loose recreation', basically what I mean is that most of the characters from that scene are also here.


Even with three of them, the poor Sharkticons get outnumbered and overpowered really easily.

(I should really stop taking photos in the evening, or relying primarily on natural light, or both. Sorry about the 'fuzzy with lots of shadows' aesthetic, guys.)

No way, keep snapping DEM PICS! They have me convinced sharpies can make AWESOME happen on our TFs that lack detail & refinement. I think experimenting on different bots might be fun - but I'm lazy.

Back when I first discovered Sharpie a year or so ago, I went really really overboard (overkill? ) with them. Suffice to say I've learned since then, but I have a few guys (Ultimate Battle Optimus and Megatron to name a few) who'll never be the same. So many casualties, all in the name of learning tasteful application of silver...

(Still LOVE that Twinferno pic btw, it's all the aesthetic beauty that I wish mine were)

That silver sharpie job looks great. How does it hold up over time?

I'd post this anyway but it's especially topical now that people are talking a lot about Magnus Prime - and, of course, the fact that he's getting a Hasbro release.

Perfect Effect just revealed gray prototypes of their transforming cab for Ginrai/Magnus Prime and it's looking fantastic

Just a heads up for those of you just getting voyager Prime; in robot mode the tail fin can split open and fold flush against the wings, almost pegging in.

In more detail: I've found that Sharpie work tends to stay pretty much perfect for about a week or so, after that the rate it tarnishes and to what degree will really depend on what type of plastic it is and what it's going through, so to speak. The black on the edges on Windblade's wings wore off pretty easily since that's the natural point to hold when moving those parts, same with her hands - but the shoulders and head fan stayed pretty much perfect since they undergo very little direct contact from skin or other plastic in regular play/display.

How Sharpie would fare without being touched at all, I'm not sure! I'm not the type to leave my toys posed and not touch them. But hey, it looks great for a while at least! And when it (inevitably, sadly) wears off, it can just be reapplied equally easily as it was the first time - for reference, Blurr there took maybe 45 minutes of semi-focused work, as opposed to who-knows-how-long to actually paint all that properly - and I honestly kind of enjoy the "painting" process so it's actually kinda fun for me to reapply it every once in a while.

TL;DR Sharpie doesn't hold up great over time but it's still great value-for-effort, and if you're careful not to handle "painted" sections directly it'll last a lot longer and look a lot nicer.

Yes I recall him I've got him in a display cabinet with my 'good stuff' to protect his chrome from scratching he's actually one of the oldest Transformers purchases I have as I got him a while before the Autobot cars etc...

First thing I thought of with the Fastlane clone was how much it resembled the race car dasher.

Customizing toys is art. Nothing wrong with that.

It wasn't what you said. It was more what I had heard from initial reactions they were talking about on the Twincast. I was busy Saturday, so I didn't see much of the board reactions to the new stuff.

Remember Warpath had a deluxe in Generations. Unless you mean an update in the legends size. What about huffer? Yes, there's the PCC guy, but it's not very huffer-ish like all these other updates.

There WAS a Legions(Legends then) Beachcomber.

And we just got a Legends Huffer in CW. I know peeps might not dig him because of Prime mold and all, but I love him in that mold. Like he got a sweet upgrade/re-scan.

I was talking purely about the legends-class in recent years, so basically Thrilling 30 Legends onward. Keeping the current design team in mind.

I was also referring specifically to the 1985 Minibots; the Minibots were split up in year of release:-
1984: Bumblebee, Cliffjumper, Brawn, Windcharger, Gears, Huffer. Also you can count Bumper if you want
1985: Cosmos, Beachcomber, Warpath, Seaspray, Powerglide. There was also a Bumblebee re-release to fill out the sixth slot.
1986: Pipes, Swerve, Tailgate, Hubcap, Outback, Wheelie.

And then 1987 replaced the Minibots with the Throttlebots, and then 1988 onwards abandoned it altogether.

I really like this brawn update

I love the deluxe Warpath. I've always wanted the little legends dude(Not CW) to be repainted white so be Slammer for Generations Metroplex.

Beachcomber definitely needs an update. I'm curious about the new Brawn and how he'll be.

He's at least getting a re-issue.

Still, I probably should have made it a bit clearer; straight-up updates of the old toys rather than re-imaginings in the new Legends class.
