Na, that voyager looks less and less great. He's pretty much a robot under a jet, you can even see his feet right under his wings. It ends up having a similar transformation (for the legs) to Prime Megatron. Also, unlike the Leader, the weings fold up around his legs in robot mode so you also get some random wing parts there instead of a uniform robot mode. He's also more kibbly in robot mode than I would have thought, with those pieces of kibble dangling at his waist.

I think I will still get him but he is definitely losing some of that magic I first saw.

You used the same pic twice, and for what they are (two different size classes adhering to different parts counts and budgets) it's pretty great that they are both independently good enough to be satisfying.

Thanks fixed! And yes I do agree on that, its cool to have options in different size classes for this cool new design.

To be fair, that was a massive shellformer. The entire front of the cab is a solid piece that just flipped over to be a giant solid backpack (reason I didn't get it). And I believe the legs are also fused together, though I may be wrong on that one.

It's the sleeper cab sides and roof that flip over on to the back the cab forms the back of the legs. He's arms and legs are full articulated the kibble is kinda terrible - but he's full of electronics so that is the excuse and frankly with the wing pack on you don't hardly notice it at all. He's really pretty in truck mode though.

The Transformation is forgivable since he's essentially a giant one-step changer playset. It is interesting to note that he comes with a couple of cade's rifle/sword sized for deluxes/voyager/onesteps.

I wouldn't expect anyone who didn't like onesteps to get excited by him. But I will defend him enough to say he's a whole lot nicer than the slam and change Optimus. He's also got a more accurate chest design than the earlier AOE Optimus toys too - he's basically got the same changes Takara's leader remould had.

Oh and yes if you want to gush about truck modes there are a few nice examples depending on tastes - I actually like the silver Knight one myself - but the one that comes with sideswipe is nice too. as is one of the repaint leaders - my fav is Takara's remould though - but there is that new version of that to consider - but I've not follow that one much so I barely know what it looks like in detail.

It's not a mould I like so much I'd want to rush to go completist on it.

For anyone feeling like playing spot the difference here is the Japanese version of Voyager Optimus :

Also Is that Leader Optimus (slight repaint facing up to Leader Megs) a wide release toy ?

I am sure they are the same toy. Hasbro's official pic seems to come from the same photosession as Takara's

Once again Megatron doesn't actually turn into anything, so that robot mode under the wings is twice as lazy. For crying out loud at least make him a Global Hawk or something based in real life. I like the new voyager Prime though.

I respectfully disagree. This Megatron is leagues better than his first movie jet mode. At least this looks like a jet. Not an earth one mind you, but he looks somewhat aerodynamic. which his previous flying vehicle modes really lacked.

and yes, he would have done much much worse.

Megatron hasn't had the best track record with flying vehicle modes.

At least the leader class Megatron seems to be a better representation of the on screen model, and looks pretty cool in my opinion.

Megatron's altmode looks like it could fit right alongside the kinds of altmodes seen in the Unicron Trilogy, and I don't recall anyone complaining about those toys' altmodes not being Earthen enough, especially when it came to the likes of the Cybertron line's Speed Planet or Planet X toys.

Yes they were. Override, Ransack, Crumplezone, Sideways, all went to Earth without changing their altmodes.

Why, even Megatron, Starscream, and Vector Prime all kept their Cybertronian altmodes on Earth.

Even Optimus Prime's supposedly Earthen altmode looked like no actual fire truck of real life. It could even turn into a flying fire truck and those certainly don't exist in the real world.

Exactly, dunno what peoples' problems are, the same could be said for animated and prime; I guess since it's a movie, it's cool to complain about every aspect of it

Cybertron even had Optimus flat out call Scattorshot out on his scanning a tank as his Earth altmode (a tank that in no way resembles any real world tank, btw) when the Autobots were supposed to try to be inconspicuous.

Besides, we already got a Movie Megatron with an Earthen altmode. Go buy the DOTM Voyager if anyone here really wants Megatron to be an Earth vehicle that badly. It's a better figure than most of Movie Megatron's other toys anyway.

There technically is another voyager bee, per japanese price point.

In the movie advanced line, the Battle Blade bumblebee was priced and packaged as a voyager:

This line being full of repaints and bee going back to his older look, I would not be surprised if thats all this is, a repackaged HFTD BB Bee in a voyager box.

Only because of the toy having too much mass for the established size of that line's Deluxe class packaging. Takara doesn't really follow a standard of pricepoints to the letter that Hasbro does. In actuality, we know that it's just a big Deluxe mold and not a true Voyager. ;)

Even discounting precedence in Cybertron and the like, I'm sorry, but that's a **** excellent Cybertronian mode. It's the perfect blend of futuristic and alien yet still having clear ties to a recognisable earthen vehicle. This isn't exactly Fort Max or TFP Megatron; the jet mode legitimately looks awesome.

Megatron has been fairly consistently portrayed as refusing to adopt Earthen alt modes in the films. He only did it in Dark of the Moon because he was hiding out in Africa. In Age of Extinction his consciousness submerged from the Galvatron unit and he didn't bother adopting a new alt mode during the battle in China. Now that he's Megatron again, and not fleeing from anything, he can go back to boasting a non-Earth alt mode for practical transportation purposes rather than disguise.

Anyway the vehicle itself looks sufficiently jet-like, even if it's fictitious. The Leader class figure especially makes it look fantastic. This is a non-earth Megatron I can really get behind.

Megs new body looks like something you'd expect to see in the movie's flashback scenes.

--

Cybertron and Cybertron defense Scattershot both look pretty normal to me one is a typical European armoured personel carrier - like the BT-4 only with tracks for the rear instead of wheels similar to a BSM-1 Alacran also (not that unlike the base body of CD Red Alert's vehicle mode or that of Universe Ultra Onslaught) only with a slightly larger gun than is usual. and CD Scattershot is a pretty typical MLRS rocket box tank of the kind that has existed in one form or another for over 70 years.

-----

I was looking at Drift's new car mode and it crossed my mind that with a new head and a bit of mischief in mind Hasbro could make a Movie Quickshadow out of him.

I agree.
In fact I suggest a top 5 list for Willy James.

Top 5 Least terrible flying alt modes Megatron has ever had. I'm sure this one would make it in the top 3.

and conversely top 5 worst flying alt modes Megatron has ever had, and the movie 1 and 2 designs are sure to be there.

Are there even enough to make a list?

For now, we have the following which deal with all that:

Top 5 Worst Cases of Visible Head Syndrome Among Transformers Toys

Top 5 Most Indistinguishable Alt Modes Among Transformers Toys

Top 5 Best Transformers Toys with Cybertronian Alt Modes (Air Vehicles)

Off the top of my head :-? , Megatron's with flying alt modes (flying beast modes excluded, though one might make a case for Transmetals Megatron): 2001 R.I.D, Energon, Cybertron, Animated x 2 (cybertronian and helicopter), Prime, 2007 Movie, ROTF, TLK.

So 10 if you count Transmetal Megatron. So just barely enough to make a list. Image :-P

Yeah, so I will just stick to what I already have, it covers them all already aside from the new leader.

Yeah, can't blame you. ;)^

The point was, TLK Megs is, all joking aside, a much much better cybertronian flying vehicle than many others Megatron has had in the past.

If you were making a top 5 list of best Megatron Flight modes you'd have to include TR Megatron. Yeah, yeah, I know he's Blitzwing with different colours and a few molding differences... but it's still a Megatron and it's still an absolutely stunning jet mode. How has this year managed to have two great Voyager Megatrons with amazing flight modes...

On a completely different topic that's more on-topic, has Slash always been called Sludge in Japan?
