HMW XP Tactics

Postby _Anshin_ » Sun Jul 25, 2010 1:53 pm

So I have a question. I have been building up my characters again and trying to set up my tactics so that I can have successful builds. However I have noticed that some people that could have leveled a long time ago have not. For example at level 0 I have seen some people with over 300k xp and they are still level 0.

So my questions are as follows:
* Is the experience better at lower levels and there really isn't a point to level up
* Is this the best tactic? I mean to sit on XP so that when you go to the next level you are already maxed out?

I am sorry if this has been covered already, but this tactic has me stumped and I am not sure how to go forward as I really hate to constantly loose and since this is a game I am still trying to learn some of the best tactics.

Thank you for enlightening me.

The only difference is that the higher the level of your opponent, the more xp you earn.

For example, doing 32% damage on a level 0 will result in 32xp. However doing it on a level 1 will result in 64xp. On a level 5 it will result in 1024xp. Now that's damage on your opponent, it doesn't matter what level you are, you earn xp based on the level of your opponent.

* Is this the best tactic? I mean to sit on XP so that when you go to the next level you are already maxed out?

I for one believe it's a good idea to hold some xp in reserve until you have about a point or two extra for the next level.

So instead of entering level 1 with 6 upgrades, you enter with 7 or 8. Gives you that little bit of a boost

Others however will argue that it's best to level up as soon as possible as you'll be facing higher opponents and the chances of earning greater xp is increased.

So it all comes down to personal preference as you still have outside factors, time of day, number of people playing etc.

Some people like to stock up lots of xp on a low level character with the logic "i win more, means less CR time means more time for xp"

personally i feel the opposite. Higher level = in better missions= better xp.

some people would rather have a hardcore level 1 or 2 than an alright level 3, but all it does is stagnate the growth of the game.

now saving up enough xp to have a tactic or 2 after you level is one thing, but there is really not much of a point in staying low level if you can go higher with the build you are using.

yes single tactic builds take longer to get to the higher levels, but to some people its worth it

but for example, you'll make tons more xp in the 2 and up missions than the 0 and 1 missions.

levels 3-5 are where the really good xp missions are. there are enough people in them to generate good xp. currently i'm in a lot of 5-7 missions and they're still good.

hell losing a solo match against a level 7 i make more xp than winning in any other missions.

A question asked politely is never a stupid question.

As a tactical play, waiting until you have a shitload of XP before levelling up is only really worth doing at level 0-to-1 and 1-to-2, thats when the XP difference in stats points really shows, but after that its really not worth it. The simple rule I use is that the points soent have to go in useful stats (i.e not the shite ones like INT or SKL) but once it has enough for the next level ill send them straight up: more XP = faster development.
As Burn said though, everyone plays differently...

One other thing is always remember you have the reset ability. Play the game focus on doing what seems to work for you in the now. That was you can spend xp on things you feel can help you level up, and once you have enough, reset, allocate the xp into your chosen tactic and primary stat to build it up.

As long as you build up enough energon to cover any armor costs (which should not be that hard,) you can experiment to see what works best for you.

I may have missed this somewhere, but I'm going to ask anyways. How well does Ram/Strafe work at level 2 for a tank?

Probably not very well.

With Ram you need Strength to increase it's damage output.

With Strafe you need Firepower to increase it's damage output.

Then you need Courage and Speed to attack and counter-attack.

See where i'm going? It's not very feasible as the xp cost is too great.

This particular tactic combination should have remained how it was, you had to unlock it with a skill and intelligence combination.

I'll stick to using Ram or Strafe separately and wait to try both at the same time. Thanks Burn.

Something else to consider, is CR costs. These have nothing to do with XP, but they matter with gameplay. Simply put: Your gonna get slagged a few times when you move up. If you can't afford to rearm with better guns and pay the healing costs, then you might hang low for a while, build the XP up so you may catapult into the midst of the next level, and "stay in the black"

Good point. I have Warzone currently in a level 2 config but I have enough level 0 'Bots still to gain more Energon that I think the cost shouldn't be that bad.
