Star Saber had a reason to power-up.
But I repeat, that's what his Star Saber mode is supposed to be for. His standard base form is just Saber. Star Saber is the power up, while Victory Saber is just an extra bonus.

It's just like those Optimus combinations in RID'01 and the Unicron Trilogy. RID'01, Armada, Energon, and Cybertron Optimus all had base forms, super forms, and combined super forms just like Saber here. It was the middlemost ones, the super modes, that put each of them on par with their respective Megatrons, while Omega Prime, Jet Prime, Optimus Supreme, and both Savage Claw Mode and Sonic Wing Mode were extra bonus forms on top of the super modes.

Personally, I like that he's going to tower over Star Saber, but that's just because I love having the cons tower over their rivals (thanks to Animated  ). I'm hoping I'll be able to back, but that deadline is a touch close to Christmas so I'll have to see how things land. Hopefully he hits all the tiers, that throne looks amazing, but I'm less confident he'll hit all the tiers like Victory Saber did

I get the feeling that most people who are getting VS aren't going to care about scale, most won't have bothered to get the 8 year old (at least) MP Star.

That may have been so in the OG G1 cartoon, but here, he's in the "new" Generations story. I guess. So in this modern take, Saber is just the KID version of Star Saber, à la Orion Pax. The kid encounter some "high school bully" and decise to go to the gym to get some gain. Saber finally bulks up and then, he can stand against his bully! Star Saber wins then he gets cocky and begin to destroy all the bullies in the school. Total victory.

But then one day, Star Saber is on the beach with his best bud, Leo. Deathsaurus grabs Leo's butt and kick sand in Star Saber's face. Star Saber thought he was strong, but Deathsaurus was way stronger. Star Saber AND Leo got a crushing defeat.

However, on a final day of bullying, Leo lay motionless on the floor and Star Saber lay beaten. Deathsaurus laughing.
Leo: "Star Saber, take my parts, and become stronger."
Star Saber, crying: "I will, my friend, I will."
Then, under Deathsaurus truly horrified gaze, Star Saber rip his friend appart and he attach his friend's body parts on him. Deathsaurus can't bear it anymore and puke in a corner. He recover and call 911 over that horrendous scene. But as he's calling, he gets brutally murdered by VICTORY SABER!

Now, Victory Saber, covered in energon from head to toes, take on himself to destroy everyone who stands in his ways!

Weird that this next TF HASLAB is up even before Star Saber ship, but eh, I'm backing ONE anyway.

It seems to be normal for each brand to have another project start shortly before the last one has shipped. Galactus was on sale before Sentinel shipped, Rancor went up before the Razor Crest started arriving, and the HISS tank was revealed before the Skystriker came out. Granted, within Star Wars and GI Joe, the two projects are different scales.

Also, Deathsaurus has passed the Engine of Vengeance in less than 48 hours.

I know some people were keeping tabs on this and it finally happened, Deathsaurus has overtaken the Ghost Rider project in less than two days.

I have little expectations for that Ghost Rider.
A CAR? Really?

Also, Unicron shipped WAY before Star Saber was even announced so...

I don't have a 'great' attachment to him, either. But, I do have a Star Saber so it kind of works. Also, since I put my extra up on ebay last night and sold it for double in about two hours, he's already paid for.

Can someone explain how this happens?

I just don't understand how someone missed out on it last year, when it was readily available for over a month, or didn't have the money then, and now a year later is willing to spend twice as mich on it.

I mean, I guess I've passed on smaller toys and then regretted it later, but this seems a bit extreme.

I suppose there was a little ambiguity in my original statement, I didn't say anything about Unicron or the Sail Barge because both of those were in people's hands before the next Haslab in their brand was announced. Those were the early days of Haslab, they were focused on proving they could deliver one project. Around 2020 they bumped up the pace a little. Galactus, Rancor, and HISS Tank were all started before the previous project in their respective brand had shipped, so Deathsaurus following the same path is not without precedent.

I don't want to go too far off topic because we do have a thread for other Haslabs but...to be fair, Ghost Rider was at over 6000 at it's peak. Much like the Black series Rancor, it was the stretch goals that put off many people, not that I felt it would have funded either way. The TF team being honest up front was definitely a plus for them. I'm sure DS will fund in time, but to compare with a downward spiraling doomed Haslab isn't really fair.

The YouTube channel GeekDadLife does a show each Sunday night. They definitely need a fan voice for Transformers though, because by their own admission they are Not TF experts ( they are mostly into MOTU GIjoe, and Ghostbusters) , and their lack of knowledge can be very frustrating at times. But they do have someone who provides graphs and trends for Haslab projects to see how they do. This will force them to inevitably talk TF for the next few weeks, so I hope they get someone knowledge for assistance.

I won't act like I'm an expert on "higher end collectibles" nor about anything superhero related (just not my cup of tea), but I just assumed Deathy is more successful at obtaining backers due to the lower price and the bang for your buck. (Huge robot, two smaller figures, and a big sword as the base package.) I know the HISS Tank is basically the same thing as the Engine of Vengeance (big vehicle with lights, bonus attachments, a driver) but I feel like it's probably easier to accept funding a big tank for your sci-fi military collection than a whole 350$ faux Dodge Charger for your superhero squad.

I'm speaking directly out of my derriere here but I dunno, a 180$ price tag vs a 350$ one just makes it seem less surprising that the cheaper one is selling better.

Oh I agree that Deathsaurus costing half of EOV is a big contribution to its success so far. I'm also aware that EOV peaked aroung 6K. But it's still a fun little gotcha.

Haha yeah it's a nice gotcha. I'm pretty sure Marvel fans probably already got some cheap replica Dodge Charger as a stand-in for the EoV in their collection anyway. Transformers fans don't have many options for a Generations styled Deathy that isn't a much more expensive MP-focused unofficial figure. Even then I don't recall many other unofficial ones other than Planet X's take. (Plus I'd imagine people who aren't fans of the IDW design, such as myself, wouldn't want that figure anyway.)

I guess what I'm getting at here is Deathsaurus makes sense, the Engine of Vengeance just seems like a bit much to really want. But again I'm no superhero fan so correct me if I'm wrong!

...that being said I agree with blackeyedprime, I like Deathsaurus enough that I would certainly be interested in him as a retail Commander (especially since he'd likely also go on sale like every other Commander at some point) but not so much that I''m willing to drop $180 on him. Also, the fact that the fully funded version of him would come with more accessories than he can actually hold/use and store at once is a pet peeve for me.

I mean, from what it looks like he can have all the robo-accessories on him. Gun in one hand, sword in the other, both Breastfo- "Micromasters" plugged into his chest, and the shield on his shoulder. The only ones that would most definitely be put to the side are the blast effects, throne, and stand if you don't want to use them, which I think makes some sense to me.

*Forgot to mention the flail somehow but I feel like there's a way to plug it in somewhere too.

A solution would be to have a way for them to store on the back of the throne.

Price is key, 100%, and it also goes with the perception of value.

Also to answer another question I saw asking how it happens that a previous haslab can sell for double, there are new fans/collectors around the world every day. It's the same reason a component of CW Superion can be sold for double on e-bay even though none are rare toys. But this one is even more limited and we specifically know the units, which are all accounted for. So this phenomenon is achieved sooner.

Also double the price sounds cheap I expect Sabr to be 1000 on the aftermarket when it comes out.

It's some form of an Optimus Prime, that's definitely going to sell better than some obscure (to non-Japanese fans that is) character.

I just don't understand how someone missed out on it last year, when it was readily available for over a month, or didn't have the money then, and now a year later is willing to spend twice as mich on it.

I mean, I guess I've passed on smaller toys and then regretted it later, but this seems a bit extreme.

Last year US unemployment was high and a lot of people that did have jobs still weren't financially stable. This year US unemployment levels are at pre-pandemic levels.

Of course it's also entirely possible the buyer knew they were going to be able to flip it again in a year for double. The last two to sell on eBay with free shipping went for around $500 so the selling price is already well past double.
