Nice job on Arcee! As for your next work SillySpringer, well you only have one logical conclusion ;)

@Insurgent, if I may ask, how come you're using dragstrip? But other than that looking good for what it is. I look forward to seeing the full thing completed :)

Well, since you're doing a pretty good job with fembots already, I humbly suggest some of those assets (no pun intended, honest! :-P ) and make either Flamewar or even Moonracer.

After all, TF's are all about the retools.

Lol maybe! I kinda forgot that I could retool Arcee into another character!

People have suggested Shockwave, Soundwave, and I have thought of doing Springer. I have a lot to design! :-P

Please don't let this thread turn into a thread showcasing SillySpringer's work, he already has one of those.
(Plus it's not like we're going to feature anything in this thread in the round up)

You lucky sonuva... I wish I could afford something from Autodesk, like Maya for example. :(

ZBrush has its own hard surface modeler, but I heard it's easier on Maya. Either way, the whole "pulling blocks out of another block" is not quite as intuitive as Sketchup. But TBH, it's not that hard to learn, though--just takes some getting used to. Kinda like the difference between walking and driving a car.

That said, I still love ZBrush's organic sculpting abilities. With a good pen and tablet (preferable an Intuos), it feels just like you're physically sculpting from clay.

I'd be a very happy camper if only Sketchup's stl exported files learned to play nice with ZBrush, without the need to add the necessary lines and loops yourself. Otherwise the model turns into a Picasso painting the moment you subdivide it. :BANG_HEAD:

Anyone in the mood for some custom semi-articulated Generations Leader Jetfire hands? ;)

Btw I will in fact make whole arms, but until I have Generations Jetfire, I can't measure the arm length yet. I have only designed the hands and gun so far. (click here to see it in 3d)

I'm planning for this to be a Shapeways product, and since his arms are mostly white, it comes in handy!

This set will be also compatible with the Combiner Wars Leader Class Thundercracker, Starscream, and Skywarp.

Izzat a challenge Ah hear, ya lil whippersnapper? :-P

Well, here's a Hound accessories set I designed and printed for Kanrabat a while ago, printed using an Afinia UP! 2 3D printer. Currently doing a 2.0 revision for him, mostly revising the cannon.

The rifle, cannon and jerry can were designed to be assembled to make them light enough for Hound to carry and hold them up.

NOTE: The cannon is undergoing a major design overhaul, BTW.

I hope this thread hasn't been left alone long enough for this to be considered necrobumping....

Anyways, I've recently found a renewed respect for Blender. While I still think the old UI was designed by some mustache-twirling villain bent on breaking the sanity of 3D modelers, the latest versions seems to have cleaned up a lot of the mess. The UI is now much more integrated, and most of the stuff is where you'd expect them to be.

The swapped right and left mouse buttons aren't really that hard to get used to, but the problem comes when you start switching to another program. Especially when it's ZBrush. While you mostly use RMB in Blender to select, ZBrush is the direct opposite, and you use the LMB for not just selecting but sculpting and moving as well--the right mouse button is used less that 10%, IMO. There's an option to swap the buttons, but then the tutorials would get somewhat confusing.

TL;DR, Blender's getting user-friendly enough to at least ATTEMPT to learn, but it's still got a ways to go in the UI department. They could start by making the confusing Blender-specific terms a little more "layman friendly", like simply calling the "Translate" option "Move", like most other software do. Sure, once you learn it, it sticks, but newbies could really benefit from a more intuitive UI and use that time to actually model something cool instead of spending weeks learning which does what.

Rant complete.

...but a truthful rant. I am still a newbie to Blender even after having it on my computer for like 6 months. I was already doing transformers designs easy peasy on Tinkercad after like 2 months.
...and I didn't even mention the cool designs I made with Tinkercad for the first 2 months. ;) You pretty much have to give up sanity to learn Blender in that amount of time.

If you are only doing CAD for 3d printing and product design, Tinkercad is perfect for beginners. I am using Tinkercad actually to make that abomination pictured above in this same comment. XD
